This is a continuation of the previous thread, www.mumsnet.com/Talk/coronavirus/4155962-10-million-people-vaccinated-already-brilliant

This thread is intended as a positive place to discuss our remarkable vaccine rollout as it progresses and to celebrate the ever increasing numbers as we go.

Polite notice: conspiracy theorists, doommongers and those looking for endless debate over vaccine efficacy, leave vs remain or anything else along those lines - this is probably not the thread for you.

So, to pick up from where we left off... a mind-blowing 16,875,536 people in the UK have now received their first dose of the vaccine - that’s 32% (or 1 in every 3.1) of all UK adults.

Every day, hundreds of thousands more people are gaining excellent levels of protection against this sodding virus. So, let’s keep jab jab jabbing our way onwards, upwards and out of this. Covid, we’re coming for ya!!!

@HeyDemonsItsYaGirl

I got my text a few minutes ago and I'm booked in for my first dose on Wednesday. I didn't realise how bloody happy I would be; I feel like crying happy tears!

Question: Would it be inappropriate to take some chocolates/biscuits/something for the staff at the vaccination centre? Would they have to throw them away because of infection control or whatever?

I took my mum for her first dose last week. I waited in the car obviously but she said it was all run so efficiently and everybody was really kind to her. There were volunteers (I assume) standing in the pouring rain to direct cars around the very full car park. I'd like to take something to show they're appreciated.

Small boxes of Celebrations (miniature mars/twixes/snickers) are incredibly popular with our team of volunteers as they are easy to pass around. We put them in our pockets for quiet moments (not many of those last night) and the wrapping make them hygienic.

@MuddyWalks

Can I just ask if you have been vaccinated just to have a bit of tact about it. Don't be gloating and putting stickers up all over your social media. Many of us are desperate for the vaccine but won't get it for a long time.

It's great if you have had it and we won't begrudge you but please think about how the non vaccinated might be feeling, especially if they are key workers and exposed to risk every day.

I take your point - but there’s a counter argument. By putting up a sticker on social media (or whatever) people are demonstrating that they trust the vaccine and believe it’s safe. It is a powerful way of spreading that message to people who might not read or believe the news, especially if there are people from groups that are more vaccine hesitant who will see that person’s social media.

I very much agree, @SilenceIsNoLongerSuspicious

Absolutely people should be loud and proud when they've had the vaccine! The quieter people are the more people who aren't sure will think everyone else feels the same. To keep quiet doesn't help the drive to trust the vaccine.

The more people vaccinated and shouting about it, the more protected this world is becoming.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 20/02/2021 12:16

I got a takeaway the other night for the first time this year, and the delivery driver (who knows me because we always go to the same local Chinese takeaway -- their food is very good) asked if I had been vaccinated yet. I said no but I was going to as soon as it was offered and he said, "good, good, we all must you know, it's very important." Apparently he is asking everyone, and if they say they aren't sure he is asking them please, please to do it!

I liked him before, I like him even more now.

Thanks for the tip about individually wrapped sweets for the hub. I'll do that.

HeyDemonsItsYaGirl · 20/02/2021 13:21

Thanks all for the advice about the chocolates/biscuits. I will go armed with a variety of individually-wrapped things!

Everybody I know has been talking about it when they get the vaccine, or even when their parents do. We're all just happy for each other, no jealousy or 'gloating.'

371906 first doses given yesterday bring us up to 17.2 million first doses in total

DdraigGoch · 20/02/2021 16:09

Wales and Scotland are really hammering the second doses at the moment.

CoffeeandCroissant · 20/02/2021 16:11

The number of people who've had at least one dose of a Covid-19 vaccine in 🇬🇧 as of yesterday is

17,247,442

(up 371,906 on the day before, 7-day average 384,374)
That is 25.8% of the total population.

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 20/02/2021 16:48

🥳🥳🥳🥳17.2 million jabs 🥳🥳🥳🥳

It is amazing to think when the priority list is finished we will have half the adult population with good protection already

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 20/02/2021 16:52

Doesn't surprise me. Logically it makes sense. Especially in areas like where my mother lives. They are delivering once and the GPs then store both doses. You don't want to be wasting man power making two trips up a Welsh mountain.
ErrolTheDragon · 20/02/2021 17:22

The US is steaming through too now which is good news. The more everywhere the better!

InterfectoremVulpes · 20/02/2021 17:56

Oh, did I miss a doomplop? Sad

vodkaredbullgirl · 20/02/2021 17:57

Yep I missed it too.

CaveMum · 20/02/2021 18:01

Awww, no fair I missed it too! Oh well, never mind.

yellowspanner · 20/02/2021 18:08

Fantastic news. We must have about a third of adults now.

Monkeytennis97 · 20/02/2021 18:11

Jumping on here again Smile

Mumoftwoinprimary · 20/02/2021 18:21

@yellowspanner

Fantastic news. We must have about a third of adults now.
17.667 million I think. So we might just make it with tomorrow’s announcement. (Which means the actual jab could be taking place about now!)

Cases, hospitalisations and deaths all down again today compared to this time last week. Cases now back to where we were at the beginning of October. Number of people in hospital is now less than half what it was at its height and back to where it was at mid December. Deaths now at about 20th December rate.

The interesting thing is the rate of fall - now much bigger for deaths than for cases and hospitalisations. Surely that must be vaccine effect?

NotStayingIn · 20/02/2021 18:23

It's brilliant! I had mine yesterday and the whole process was so well organised. The volunteers did an incredible job!

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 20/02/2021 18:24

So glad you are noticing that to mum. I have been wondering if it is just me being optimistic. My local health trust of five London hospitals is down to single figures covid admissions.
