The obvious answer is yes, but I’m wondering if we will end up in lockdown again ?

OP posts:

Is it just me balking at a woman saying other women are, 'creaming their knickers'? I don't think I've heard that from anyone other than teenage boys circa 30 years ago.

Discussing public health with adults then, all you ridiculous women are creaming your knickers? Just crass and misogynistic and yuk.

echt · 17/02/2021 02:14

@Rosesaresweet

Some people just love the drama of it too and for some reason keep picking schools over and over and over, posting the same stuff on every thread in a hope the gov are reading this and take this as people's views.

I'm also surprised about the number of posters, possibly teachers, who seem so keen to keep schools closed as long as possible.

Covering all bases, aren't you? With an unsubstantiated swipe at teachers thrown in. Hmm
echt · 17/02/2021 02:21

@DownstairsMixUp

Jesus Christ 80% of mumsnet are creaming their knickers being in lockdown. You can just feel the panic from some posters that life might be going back to normal Hmm
And that's based on what evidence?

I'll help. None.

Disgusting metaphor by the way.

peak2021 · 17/02/2021 07:03

Yes, but if it is not all schools at once then perhaps it will be minimised.

noblegiraffe · 17/02/2021 08:18

What's interesting is that this appears to be exactly what Rosesaresweet is doing.

Agree, it's a vulgar and disgusting post, just vile.
IloveJKRowling · 17/02/2021 09:03

Yes I noticed the crass misogyny thrown in too.

I tend to ignore anyone who'd speak about women like that - it shows so clearly who they are.

Back to the respectful discussion about public health and safety in schools.

I really believe a lot of the people arguing against ANY additional safety measures can't be parents. Anyone who lived through Sept-Dec in the state school system - unless very lucky (and even then you'd have to be living in a bubble not to see the carnage around you) - really won't be all for repeating that failed experiment again.

Lockdown is no good for my DDs, not really, it's the socialisation and just seeing other people they're missing. But the isolation stints we did Sept -Dec were FAR worse - no leaving the house even for a walk, it was awful. Trying and failing to get covid tests, the endless wait for results.

A middle ground like rotas, or even just outdoor PE, would be the intelligent choice.

noblegiraffe · 17/02/2021 09:07

I notice that again talk of safety measures is being completely ignored in favour of painting people as wanting schools endlessly closed.

I keep thinking I've missed something, until I remember that I've been told that I want schools endlessly closed, when I've said nothing of the sort.

People with an agenda I guess.

starrynight19 · 17/02/2021 09:10

Yes I really hope we can have a phased return for children from the 8th March and a very close monitoring of how it is impacting on positive cases.
My y11 dd hates online learning but not as much as isolating four times last term where she couldn’t even leave the house.

Yes agreed awful post.
SpringtimeBluebells · 17/02/2021 09:13

Devon and Cornwall have barely any cases in bany areas and over 95% of some vulnerable groups vaccinated .....why on earth should schools in those areas stay shut ant longer

Hollyhead · 17/02/2021 09:15

@SpringtimeBluebells I feel really sorry for Devon and Cornwall - their primary schools at least should be returning after half term. it's a disgrace.

SpringtimeBluebells · 17/02/2021 09:20

The CEV teachers will have been vaccinated and the V teachers are now being vaccinated.... in some areas council employees are being vaccinated regardless of health issues or not...that includes teachers.

Indeed, it is wrong that will a case number of single figures that schools are shut to most. Many have less than 10% in here.
They should open for all in Devon and Cornwall

SpringtimeBluebells · 17/02/2021 09:27

Torrington 8 cases in the last week

Pootle40 · 17/02/2021 09:29

My region in Scotland has a 54 per 100,000 rate and only p1-p3 can return to school ?!

SpringtimeBluebells · 17/02/2021 09:30

@SpringtimeBluebells

Torrington 8 cases in the last week
Sorry that was the area of Torridge..... 8 cases yet all schools are closed to most.....North Devon....23 cases in a week....yet schools closed to most....it is wrong 😑

Most people aren’t arguing for schools to be closed “forever”

Most are arguing for a staggered return or waiting till after Easter. Let the numbers get really low, it gives us a better chance of a more normal spring and summer.

Absolutely this.

"I'm also surprised about the number of posters, possibly teachers, who seem so keen to keep schools closed as long as possible"

I think you've probably misunderstood their stance. I've seen teachers calling for mitigations and safer practices in schools, which has been wilfully misconstrued as wanting them shut. Bear in mind that teachers more than anyone else at all, had first-hand experience of the true state of affairs in schools between September and December, when it seemed as if the whole world was sticking its fingers in their ears, shouting, "lalalalala."

TheReluctantPhoenix · 17/02/2021 10:01

I am always on the side of caution but we do need to trust the vaccines.

We will probably be at a rate of 1/200 people or less having COVID by March 8th with 20-25% of the total population vaccinated, including those most at risk.

There are only 3 more weeks of school until a long holiday, which is another firebreak. By the end of Easter hols, we should be about 35-40% vaccinated, making a serious dent in the r number.

We should go back to school on the 8th.

WhenSheWasBad · 17/02/2021 10:01

Yep. Pretty much all summer lots of people were saying how low Covid levels were. And of course schools should open as normal, it’ll be fine.

Teachers pointed out that children are brilliant at spreading viruses, and there is no way to socially distance in schools.

Schools went back almost almost as normal (bubbles of 250 and mask wearing in corridors).
Well it wasn’t fine. We had a massive peak and now have a more infectious variant.

Roll on to February, once again people are stating that numbers are low (which they aren’t). And saying school should just reopen and it will be fine.

Trouble is there is a new more infectious variant, and most children and the parents they live with haven’t been vaccinated. There’s a very strong possibility that it won’t be fine.

This isn’t me arguing for school to “never reopen” just saying we should wait till after Easter. Let the case numbers get seriously low and more people vaccinated.

BustopherPonsonbyJones · 17/02/2021 10:04

Completely agree, Angelina. None so deaf as those who will not hear.

WhenSheWasBad · 17/02/2021 10:05

I do trust the vaccines. But children and most of their parents will not have received a vaccine by 8th March.
Way more sensible to wait until after Easter. If we let it spread again it will just lead to bubbles bursting and pupils being sent home again.

CallmeAngelina · 17/02/2021 10:07

We have around 10% of pupils in at the moment, but have still had 3 bubbles burst.
