Is she jumping the vaccine queue?

Fullofpudding · 16/02/2021 01:15

My DSil got a text from her GP offering her a covid vaccine which she has booked for tomorrow. She's only 45 and she reckons she's been added to the list because of her high BMI. She's lost loads of weight since her GP last saw her so now has a normal BMI. I can't help thinking she's now jumping the queue but she can't get hold of her GP when she tried to query it. Just wondered what other MN thought Confused

OK, we’ll have seen it was a reverse.

I would have posted that I am utterly irritated by petty jealous ‘queue jumping’ carping and people should get on with being glad that everyone is being done swiftly and not be bothering their GPs with phone calls about changed appointments - which probably take up more time than getting the jab.

It is the bigger picture that counts, for all of us. It

thecatisaliveandwell · 16/02/2021 11:50

I am heartily sick and tired of all this 'jumping the queue' and 'it's not fair' and 'I feel guilty' rhetoric. FFS, this is not the school playground. Or is this a 'British' thing, compared to other countries, like Israel?

I am CEV, so I had the vaccine last week, and DH had it at the same time, as he was considered a risk to me. It wouldn't have bothered me if someone else had it before me.....because that person will not potentially pass it on.

Rather than all this silly and pointless squabbling, we should be grateful that this vaccine has been rolled out so quickly.

Bluntness100 · 16/02/2021 11:54

I’m also sick of it. It’s the most ludicrous petty thing. “Is it queue jumping”. No. Just do your bit and have the bloody vaccine when requested.

SparkysMagicPiano · 16/02/2021 12:13

@stampsurprise

She should just take it and get it done.

You don’t know her medical history - perhaps she developed diabetes or something when she was heavier.

Well done her for losing a lot of weight and during lockdown too! 🏆

Just be happy for her - your turn will come 😍

Read the thread. It is the OPs turn.

This is a ridulous reverse.

StarCat2020 · 16/02/2021 13:38

They said a while back supermarket staff were going to be prioritised but this never materialised which I think was unfair given that many people in the health and social care sector who are not frontline (including myself) were offered it
In the nicest possible way, what everyone thinks about the priority order is luckily irrelevant.

It would never work if everyone got to decide whether or not they should be a priority.

OpheliasCrayon · 16/02/2021 14:03

Does it really matter

It seems every other post these days is should I/ she / he / them get a vaccine.

Hollywolly1 · 16/02/2021 15:43

Did it occur to you that she could have certain health issues she wants to keep private? and maybe thats why she's getting the vaccination now

kateybeth79 · 16/02/2021 15:54

I'm 41 and am having my vaccine next Tuesday. I'm physically fit but have Bipolar so am assuming that comes under underlying health conditions. Please don't hate me OP!

medebourne · 16/02/2021 16:06

I really can't bear people shouting that other people aren't entitled to vaccines. It says so much about the people moaning!

  • Nobody knows exactly why some people are offered vaccines before others. Sometimes there are health conditions you might not know about
  • There are people whose job it is to decide who to contact. They do this with good reasons. It's not done at random or for the lolz or to hurt and upset or leave other people out
  • We have enough vaccines and a well functioning vaccine system. I'm not a supporter of this government at all, but we have finally got something right in the pandemic. If you haven't got your vaccine yet, you WILL do soon.
  • Every time anybody gets vaccinated it's a win for us all

Stop all of this feverish nastiness. It's like when toddlers fight over pieces of cake. We're not in the Hunger Games. We live in a civilised society, there's enough for everyone. Just be happy for the people who get it very slightly earlier than you.

It is the OP who is having the vaccination.
CharityDingle · 16/02/2021 17:30

@GailLondon

Go and get your vaccination OP, and huge congratulations on the weight loss, you must be so pleased! That will make such a difference to your health, well done x
+1.

My dh is 58 but very fit, BMI of 22, not on any medication. He has been offered a jab and is booked in to have it. He can only think that it's because he used to have a heart problem that was resolved with surgery 3 years ago.

He is slightly concerned that he is still classed as having an underlying condition despite having surgery but is not going to ring the GP and query this. He is going to have the jab as he assumes the triaging has been done correctly. However people might assume he is queue jumping. It's no one else's business though.

The "sister" is fictional. This is a reverse. I expect the OP is aware of her own medical situation.
GoldenPenPot · 16/02/2021 21:07

She’s been offered it and should take it. She’s not depriving anyone else, and one more person ticked off the list.

TheOrigRights · 18/02/2021 09:17

Did anyone hear the report of the chap who got called up earlier than he thought he should be?

He called his GP to find out why and it turned out they had his height as 6.2cm instead of 6'2". This gave him a BMI of something like 28,000!

I read that! It was hilarious.
Covidworries · 24/02/2021 10:25

If you are offered the vaccine and turn it down the risk os it maybe a wasted dose and you may not get asked again as could be recorded as refuse/doesnt want vaccination

parachuteballoon · 24/02/2021 10:48

I had the vaccine this week. I was really surprised that as someone in their forties I was a very typical patient there. Most people in 30s, 40s and 50s, some in 20s.

The media are still portraying the vaccination programme as being for the elderly, but the reality is that nearly all of the elderly have now been vaccinated (at least in my area it seems) and now the people getting vaccinated are younger and may not fit a stereotype of vulnerable, but they have been identified as such, and in large numbers.

So a mindset change is now needed about 'queue jumping' and 'fairness' etc. We need to realise that the elderly are vaccinated and the people getting vaccinated are younger. This is a good thing and means in a few weeks the impact on case numbers and hospitalisations will really start to be felt.

This vaccination of younger people will need to continue at a fast pace once the lockdown restrictions are eased so as to avoid a huge 4th wave.
