Is she jumping the vaccine queue?

My DSil got a text from her GP offering her a covid vaccine which she has booked for tomorrow. She's only 45 and she reckons she's been added to the list because of her high BMI. She's lost loads of weight since her GP last saw her so now has a normal BMI. I can't help thinking she's now jumping the queue but she can't get hold of her GP when she tried to query it. Just wondered what other MN thought Confused

@Bagamoyo1

Well I wish all of the people on here who want the vaccine were my patients. Yesterday I had to call patients to book their appointments for the weekend vaccine clinic. Mostly men age 65-70. Almost all of them were a bit huffy about it, saying things like “OK I’ll have it if you like”, “yeah alright, I suppose so”, and one of them made a huge fuss because the venue was not the actual surgery, but a 2 minute walk away (or a 30 second drive, with ample free parking). Honestly, you wouldn’t believe the attitude of some of these people. It was like they were doing me a favour. I felt like telling them to fuck off and I’d give the vaccine to someone else.
I know it’s hard but look at the action not the words. As long as they come in that’s all that matters.

It wouldn’t the same if patients just did what you advise 😃.

I’m a private hcp and my drs weren’t interested in doing me I had to get a care home I visit to do me with the residents. You cease to exist when you’re private. I felt like saying if I was going to fake being a hcp I’d choose something sexy like tissue viability but their all nhs.

If someone is offered an appointment, they should take it. They haven’t lied their way into being added to a list.

There might be errors in the system relating old, outdated conditions which meant people qualified. The system isn’t sophisticated enough and there isn’t enough time for the surgery to call everyone to check if the condition still applies. Much better to have a few people getting it a bit early than really needed and run an efficient system that rattles through the millions who do need it. Overall everyone benefits from this.

GabsAlot · 16/02/2021 10:53

could be her bmi although i havent had a phoecall yet guess i depends on area

CharityDingle · 16/02/2021 10:57

The OP has clarified that it's not her SIL, it's actually the OP who has been offered the vaccination. I don't know why she posted it as her SIL.

But, as I said upthread, go for it, OP.

AgainstTheCurrent · 16/02/2021 10:57

Not jumping, if I had a text I would get one and I am only in my 40's. My GP are literally dragging people off the local center at the end of the day as they have no shows and don't want to waste any, I could hover around there but I know more need it more so I don't.

I just think if you are offered it and happy to have it why not! Every person jabbed is a step closer to being out this with people lives being saved.

Sunshinegirl82 · 16/02/2021 10:58

To be honest it will probably take up more NHS time for her to speak with someone at the GP, find out if it's an error and get it resolved than just to turn up and get the jab. If I was her I'd just get it and have done with it!

Jaxhog · 16/02/2021 10:58

Unless she's lied or cheated to get an appointment - she should just get it when offered. GPs just want to get everyone jabbed. It'll be more hassle for them if she declines on the basis she doesn't think she's entitled yet.

AlecTrevelyan006 · 16/02/2021 10:59

Tbh the vaccine programme is going so well now it barely matters who gets it in what order

Chill out!

WombatChocolate · 16/02/2021 11:04

Time and speed is of the essence.
The more people who can respond quickly to a text, to a phone call or letter or to the general invitations to certain groups to book online, the less resources needed to chase people up, less wasted appointments and the faster everyone gets done.

There will always be those who are hesitant and need 6 calls to get them there, or those struggling with the technology, but if everyone else gets their text, responds and books that day for within the next few days, it will all move in faster.

If people start querying if they should have been offered it yet, that wastes so much time and resources. It honestly is best to book and get done.

rainbowunicorn · 16/02/2021 11:07

These threads are really tiresome, there is at least one every day with someone moaning about who is getting the vaccine and why they think it is unfair.
We are all going to get it, as long as there are vaccines going into people's arms it really does not matter.

Happymum12345 · 16/02/2021 11:08

I would be grateful.

robertsradiofan · 16/02/2021 11:12

They said a while back supermarket staff were going to be prioritised but this never materialised which I think was unfair given that many people in the health and social care sector who are not frontline (including myself) were offered it.

It's probably excess Pfizer vaccine. I got offered a vaccine yesterday by text as well and had it this morning. I'm also 45, normal BMI, no underlying medical conditions and I had mild covid over Xmas so not at risk. I got the option to go today only and was allocated a community (red) as opposed to priority (blue) dose
When they thaw out a batch they need to use it within 5 days or throw it away, so guessing I got one that was going in the bin tonight if not used. It's a bit of a lottery, but a good idea to avoid waste and get the numbers through. Army were running the vaccinations in a car park on the other side of town so a drive, but it was a very good, well run experience.

ColinRobinson · 16/02/2021 11:16

I’m the other way round (BMI now 45 after a shit couple of years/MH issues) but my GP doesn’t have it on record so I’m told I’ll have to wait for group 10 despite also having crap crackly lungs. I can hardly make an appointment with my GP just to be diagnosed as fat though. So I’ll be as careful as I can be and try not to let my anxiety run too amok.

Egghead68 · 16/02/2021 11:17

I think if she is invited she should just go for it. Everyone’s going to get invited in the next few months and it would probably take up valuable admin time to understand vote her.

Egghead68 · 16/02/2021 11:17

Uninvite her.

OverTheRainbow88 · 16/02/2021 11:21

The more the merrier IMHO

IndiaMay · 16/02/2021 11:22

Take up has been really bad amongst the elderly within my local health service (aunt is a vaccinator). They get to end of day and there will be people who havent turned up/havent taken up the vaccine/they thawed too many out for the time in the day and they need using or go in the bin. They do a ring round/text round to try fill the vaccine spaces asap rather than them go in the bin. So far they have managed not to throw a single one and thats by getting people to 'queue jump' as you say. There wouldnt be as much 'queue jumping' if people actually turned up at the right date/time for their appointment, didnt change their mind about having it or didnt decide not to take it up.

stampsurprise · 16/02/2021 11:25

She should just take it and get it done.

You don’t know her medical history - perhaps she developed diabetes or something when she was heavier.

Well done her for losing a lot of weight and during lockdown too! 🏆

Just be happy for her - your turn will come 😍

bluebluezoo · 16/02/2021 11:26

Honestly. If having the vaccine meant my life would change in any meaningful way- ie those that are vaccinated aren’t subject to lockdown rules, can go on holiday, don’t need to isolate if in contact with a positive case etc, i’d be all for rigid rules about queue jumping.

As it is it won’t make a jot of difference when you are vaccinated, whether now or later. So who cares as long as people are getting vaccinated which means eventually we will all get back to normal- at the same time.

TSSDNCOP · 16/02/2021 11:26

She works in a supermarket you say, and she’s got her health under control during the pandemic. Fair play to her, she’s been allocated take the shot.

Schmoozer · 16/02/2021 11:28

She got invited, she didn’t queue jump
Keep yer beak out
Good for her !

Sittingonabench · 16/02/2021 11:31

Not queue jumping. Who knows whether losing the weight actually has an impact. If you’ve been invited, go and get it , especially in public facing role. BTW that kind of weight loss is amazing! Well done! You’re an inspiration!

MaLarkinn · 16/02/2021 11:31

I wish I had so little to worry about.
