Is she jumping the vaccine queue?

Fullofpudding · 16/02/2021 01:15

My DSil got a text from her GP offering her a covid vaccine which she has booked for tomorrow. She's only 45 and she reckons she's been added to the list because of her high BMI. She's lost loads of weight since her GP last saw her so now has a normal BMI. I can't help thinking she's now jumping the queue but she can't get hold of her GP when she tried to query it. Just wondered what other MN thought Confused

Who cares every extra vaccine saves 25 new cases

ekidmxcl · 16/02/2021 08:42

She works in a supermarket - she is more than entitled to a jab, regardless of rules. I read that 50% of those diagnosed with covid went supermarket shopping regardless.

Quartz2208 · 16/02/2021 08:44

So she is on the list because she was once obese - makes sense.

Turning it down is potentially actually more work for those involved and putting her on the correct list.

And FFS OP she works in a supermarket which means she is in a place where she can get it - be happy that she is

OK I'll come clean. It's me that's having the vaccine Blush I didn't want people to think I was queue jumping so was seeking people's opinions. I've worked hard to get my BMI from 49 to 28. I just feel guilty that there's other vulnerable people waiting and I'm taking their space. I've tried to call the doctor but had no luck. Sorry if I didn't come clean earlier x

You shouldn’t feel bad and well done on that massive achievement.

PurpleHoodie · 16/02/2021 08:49

Reverse threads are pretty shit.

Unless they are the funny "unreasonable baby narrating" ones.

Don't feel guilty about having a vaccine. Most people who want it will get it at some point.

Swingometer · 16/02/2021 08:51

She was invited by her GP to attend for vaccine

She booked her vaccine

End of story

Swingometer · 16/02/2021 08:52

Sorry just seen OP's update

Don't overthink it OP, just have your vaccine

TheOrigRights · 16/02/2021 08:55

I reckon the admin and time lost to investigate any incorrectly invited people would be counter productive. Just get everyone vaccinated.
So what if 0.01% of people skip the queue (for whatever reason).

Lanzo · 16/02/2021 08:57

The more the merrier! Everyone who takes up the opportunity to get a vaccine is helping us out of lockdown.

Barton10 · 16/02/2021 09:00

Just have it, you are going to get it anyway in the next couple of months. I am fed up with people complaining that somebody has jumped the queue it doesn't matter. We are all getting it and those less vulnerable are waiting longer. I have worked throughout, been to hospital appointments and been in shops. I have been careful and have not caught it yet and can't get worked up about somebody getting a jab before me!

Topseyt · 16/02/2021 09:00

@Bluntness100

Gosh why do peoooe do this. We have moved from people curtain twitching and reporting their family and neighbours to now getting pissed if they think someone has “jumped the queue”. So many threads on it.

We are all going to get done, she’s been invited, that’s it. End of.

It is because the Covid Police now have a new department called the Covid Vaccine Police and this is their remit.

No way is this queue jumping, OP. I don't see why it has you irate enough to question it so publicly. Her surgery has been in contact to offer her a vaccination appointment and she is very sensibly taking it. There should be nothing more to be said.

I would be much more critical if she had turned it down without very good reason.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 16/02/2021 09:03

According to today’s Times, morbid obesity is counted in the next category.

But in any case, the odd person getting it who’s not strictly entitled will 🤞mean one less person catching it and spreading it around.

Bluntness100 · 16/02/2021 09:04

God I hate a reverse. They should be banned. Why do people do it? Why not just ask the question ?

Topseyt · 16/02/2021 09:05

I just saw this.

Irritating that you did it as a reverse, but well done for your weight loss. I wish I could say the same for me.

You aren't queue jumping. You would be very silly to turn it down.

grafittiartist · 16/02/2021 09:10

Surely it's better to go now.
If she misses this appointment, then it takes the system double the amount of time to sort out.
Do and and get off the list would be better!

Redwinestillfine · 16/02/2021 09:17

Of course you need to get it if you're called! You may not get called again!

CharityDingle · 16/02/2021 09:19

Not sure why you didn't just say it was you, from the start, OP.

Go for it. I think supermarket workers have been brilliant through all of this, and I certainly would not begrudge any of them getting a vaccine asap.

It's been offered to you, take it, for sure. And well done on the weight loss.

Bagamoyo1 · 16/02/2021 09:21

Well I wish all of the people on here who want the vaccine were my patients. Yesterday I had to call patients to book their appointments for the weekend vaccine clinic. Mostly men age 65-70. Almost all of them were a bit huffy about it, saying things like “OK I’ll have it if you like”, “yeah alright, I suppose so”, and one of them made a huge fuss because the venue was not the actual surgery, but a 2 minute walk away (or a 30 second drive, with ample free parking).

Honestly, you wouldn’t believe the attitude of some of these people. It was like they were doing me a favour. I felt like telling them to fuck off and I’d give the vaccine to someone else.

Milomonster · 16/02/2021 09:22

Why does it matter? I could very easily queue jump/get access to a vaccine (not because I am obese). There is a lack of take up and so it’s entirely sensible that it is offered to others. Get over it.

DoctorHildegardLanstrom · 16/02/2021 09:22

There was a comedian (suzi ruffell) on the Last Leg on Friday, young, healthy, she got offered the vaccine because her surgery had some left over.

Another comedian (Jason Manford) got his because he volunteers to drive the elderly and happened to be waiting for one of his passengers, some people just get lucky and I only heard about these two because the are famous and I follow them both on social media. Better to use it then lose it.

also don't do reverses they are annoying and I would be more pissed off at you for that, then getting the jab

IEat · 16/02/2021 09:23

Are you jealous? If she’s been called it’s her turn, she’s not jumped the queue at all.

poppycat10 · 16/02/2021 09:24

I really don't care who gets done when. The main four categories have been done/very nearly done, and someone who works in a supermarket should be done in my view.

I know age is easier to prioritise than job role, but it makes sense to me to leave the work from home office workers without underlying conditions and who are normal weight to the end of the queue.

GailLondon · 16/02/2021 09:25

Go and get your vaccination OP, and huge congratulations on the weight loss, you must be so pleased! That will make such a difference to your health, well done x

Bagamoyo1 · 16/02/2021 09:25

If you volunteer in a vaccine centre, you will almost certainly get a vaccine. There are often one or two doses left over at the end of a large clinic, and it’s impossible to always get people on the back up list to come up, especially on afternoon sessions when it’s dark at the end.
All our car park marshals have even vaccinated.
