Is she jumping the vaccine queue?

Fullofpudding · 16/02/2021 01:15

My DSil got a text from her GP offering her a covid vaccine which she has booked for tomorrow. She's only 45 and she reckons she's been added to the list because of her high BMI. She's lost loads of weight since her GP last saw her so now has a normal BMI. I can't help thinking she's now jumping the queue but she can't get hold of her GP when she tried to query it. Just wondered what other MN thought Confused

How can she be jumping the queue if she was offered the vaccine? Unless there's a back story, it's not like she went to the surgery, thumped the front counter and demanded it.

Gosh why do peoooe do this. We have moved from people curtain twitching and reporting their family and neighbours to now getting pissed if they think someone has “jumped the queue”. So many threads on it.

We are all going to get done, she’s been invited, that’s it. End of.

Normandy144 · 16/02/2021 07:54

At the end of the day we all need to be vaccinated so she should go and get it. The administration involved in working out if she is worthy of it or not is time consuming and time wasting. Better to get on with it and wish her well.

People need something to be bitter about. The main thing this virus has shown me is that there are so many twats out there.

No idea why she’s on the list

But if she’s on the list she needs to take the vaccine and not disrupt the system. The goal is a fast roll out - they are dealing with millions of people, there are bound to be a few glitches where some get it early - but the thing that damages roll out is people fannying about querying their places and giving the NHS admin it doesn’t have time for.

Your sister is one person in millions. She needs to take her place now - and you need to not make her feel bad about it.

QueenoftheAir · 16/02/2021 08:00

Does it matter?. The more people we can get vaccinated the better.

This - and you can’t actually jump the queue - you’re invited to accept an appointment.

ScarfaceCwaw · 16/02/2021 08:01

As far as I can see, the feeling of the NHS on people calling to ask for the vaccine, or query the vaccine, or say they can't turn up for the vaccine, is (paraphrased) "DON'T CALL, TURN UP OR DON'T TURN UP BUT FOR FUCK'S SAKE DON'T CALL US, WE HAVE ENOUGH TO DO AND THE LAST THING WE WANT IS TO BE TIED UP ON THE FUCKING PHONE."

I'm with everyone else. She hasn't "jumped the queue", she has an offer, she should take it up as we all should. End of.

DinosaurDiana · 16/02/2021 08:02

Don’t block the GP’s phone line, just go for the vaccine.

AtlasPine · 16/02/2021 08:02

I’m in just this situation - was heavy but much lighter now - a bit older (under 60 though). I accept the invitation and was vaccinated literally the next working day, so no time to query. I have no intention of becoming a ‘refuser’ - goodness knows when I’d be offered again. The gp puts forward names and the vaccinations are done somewhere totally different round here - huge centre, hundreds of people - big and small, old and young, no one queries or look surprised when I was on the list. I got it and was grateful. I teach and have to travel on public transport for work, so I’d be mad to turn it down. We will all be offered it eventually.

CottonSock · 16/02/2021 08:05

Take it if offered..why not. No need to be a martyr by refusing it. Is that what you are planning?

Bloodyhamabeads · 16/02/2021 08:08

The more people that are vaccinated, the more it protects the general public too. Plus if she were to cancel, it doesn’t necessarily mean they could fill her slot and short and a vaccine might be binned. Better she just goes.

I think the last thing her gp needs is your sister taking up precious time questioning this. Technically if her records had been updated recently she might not have been called yet but shes a keyworker and she'll be another name ticked off the list.

Despite being young and healthy if I got the call I'd jump at the chance I wouldn't be questioning it.

[quote userxx] “People need something to be bitter about. The main thing this virus has shown me is that there are so many twats out there“

I've said all the was through this that people are showing us who they are... Now we have people jealous of their own children being offered the vaccine!

You'll hate me too, OP - I'm 42 and received my first jab a couple of weeks ago when the heavy snow meant that the vaccination centre had shots that would go to waste due to travel obstructions. They offered them to local school staff. I wasn't going to turn down the chance on the off chance that people would mutter about me 'jumping the queue' .

OhWhyNot · 16/02/2021 08:12

Like others have said she may have a health condition or be on a medication that you are not aware of that puts her in group 6

And working daily with the public puts her at a higher risk

If it’s offered take it up (unless you are not planning to anyway)

SuperHighway · 16/02/2021 08:12

Does it really matter? Perhaps find other more important things to stew over.

NothingIsWrong · 16/02/2021 08:12

The more jabs in arms the better. Take the jab when you are offered. Some will be missed who should have it, some will get it when it's not strictly their "turn". But every jab breaks the chains a little more and protects those who can't have it. At 3M jabs a week, the NHS isn't going to have time to fanny around getting it perfect.

Take it if you are offered it.

BruceAndNosh · 16/02/2021 08:23

My friend is Group 7 by age but she is also quite overweight (no idea what her BMI is). But she is working several days a week as a Volunteer at an inner city vaccination centre where she was offered a leftover dose at the end of the day. I'm delighted for her but she said she is not telling many people she's been jabbed because of "queue jumping" whiners.

longwayoff · 16/02/2021 08:26

You have been indoors too long. This is sweet fa to do with you, find something else to be jealous and bitter about.

Silverstarsallover · 16/02/2021 08:31

Mind you own business.
If she got invited that there must be a reason.
It’s not like she paid someone at the dr to give her the vac secretly.

KenAdams · 16/02/2021 08:33

As a supermarket worker, if she got it, she'd be in a position whereby she could spread it to a large number of people so I see no issue in her going for the vaccine. I know many of us would like it, but we really shouldn't begrudge those that are having it. Be patient, you'll get your turn.

Rooroobear · 16/02/2021 08:36

I don’t understand why you are so bothered op?? Eventually everyone will get vaccinated. I’m sick of seeing these posts about people jumping the queue. Do you think you’re entitled to it before her?? Let her have it, so what if she’s lost weight since her last appointment. If I was offered it I’d take it.

BerryPieandCustard · 16/02/2021 08:37

The same thing happened to me. I’m 35, no conditions that put me at risk, BMI of 28. Got a text to book. I was confused but did as instructed and got a slot for tomorrow. The message said in capital letters DO NOT CALL THE SURGERY.

I happened to speak to a colleague who has a daughter who works as a DRs receptionist (different surgery to mine though) who said that when that particular surgery has vaccinated their patients in the highest groups they are moving on to other patients. So I am to get the vaccine before my friend who has asthma (not shielding though) because we live in different areas and registered at different GPS.

One surgery in my town postponed their Facebook page that they had vaccinated 300 people on one day so will likely get through their patients quickly.

sashagabadon · 16/02/2021 08:38

Good for her

ShanghaiDiva · 16/02/2021 08:39

She received a text from her gp. How is that queue jumping?
Why do you want the opinion of mumsnetters? What are you planning to say to her: nine out of ten mumsnetters think you are a queue jumper?
You sound petty, jealous and bitter.

swampytiggaa · 16/02/2021 08:40

Me and the husband both work in supermarkets. We’re both 51 no underlying health issues. If we get called for vaccination we won’t be questioning it. Tbh if we could pay to have it we would.
