Welcome to the new thread! I will copy over links from the previous thread soon.

Please note, this is a thread to share good news and for wobblers to be reassured. Doomploppers will be met with scorn and derision!

I don't think that's what FourTeaFallOut meant at all. You absolutely don't need to leave. This thread, more than any other thread on MN,is going to always celebrate the tiniest of good news available to share. I am really glad your son is going to get his vaccine next week 🙌. And like I mentioned above, people working in H&S are ensuring that teachers feel more at safe within their workplace. Schools in our local council never had issues with regards to ventilation/mask wearing fortunately but I'm keenly looking forward to it being the same across the country.

TheChineseChicken · 17/02/2021 15:25

Maybe we should give the school discussion a rest - it's very emotive and one person's school-related good news is another's nightmare at the moment. Hopefully there will be some objectively good news re: schools soon!

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 17/02/2021 15:30

Chicken have you done any good tweets lately Grin

thatgingergirl · 17/02/2021 15:43

I never thought an article in The Guardian would have me giggling!

People signing up for any trials are awesome, and those joining that treatments trial are definitely going the extra, extra mile!

DH is getting his vaccination tomorrow - he's so glad it is a couple of days ahead of mine so I can tend to his every post jab need!

FourTeaFallOut · 17/02/2021 15:43

Isn't that an over-recation? Maybe we could also stop talk about anyone going on holiday or to the pub or meeting their family? I'm not entirely sure I'm 100% happy with it. (For instance, actually all those things sound marvellous)

FourTeaFallOut · 17/02/2021 15:49

Meanwhile, Sage scientists have said that crowded beaches don't spread covid. So, that's good.

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 17/02/2021 15:51

If someone wanted to derail the thread they would be doing an excellent job about now. The trick is to act all innocent about it and maybe pull those heart strings if you aren't getting your own way.

You see it on many a thread out there.

Back to the joy of picnics, good news and cheering each other on I think 😜

FourTeaFallOut · 17/02/2021 15:52

Consider me the Tin Man.

On beaches, from the telegraph:

"There's been very, very little evidence that any transmission outdoors is happening in the UK," Mark Woolhouse, professor of infectious disease epidemiology at the University of Edinburgh, told the Science and Technology Committee today.

While trips abroad may have to wait due to the risk of importing dangerous new variants, beach visits could be given the green light, Prof Woolhouse, whose research feeds in to the Government's Sage sub-group Spi-M, said.

"There were no outbreaks linked to crowded beaches," he said. "There's never been a Covid-19 outbreak linked to a beach ever anywhere in the world to the best of my knowledge."

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 17/02/2021 15:53

Well beaches it is then. We just need a premission note from Boris Grin

FuzzyPuffling · 17/02/2021 15:56

To be fair, I think that would be the over-reaction
FourTeaFallOut · 17/02/2021 16:07

I don't think it is an over reaction to defend one space on MN where you can link to good indicators about school going back without having to brace for incoming. No one is obliged to agree that a piece of news or information meets a threshold of good news for everyone before it is posted, surely?

TheChineseChicken · 17/02/2021 16:09

I couldn't possibly reveal that information

I was actually suggesting not talking about anything ever would be the over-reaction.

Anyway, I don't think it's worth bickering about. You're free to post about what you like, obviously.

Level75 · 17/02/2021 16:11

Not good news as such but it made me laugh...

It's all so tense, isn't it? Pah. Agreed, let's just move on.

We're a smidge (60k) off 16m jabs today. I am pocketing the phrase jabtastic from another thread. I like it a lot.

Really struggling today :( been feeling so positive and excited but now feeling depressed and anxious again. I had the jab last week and now I’m thinking what was the point? Things aren’t going to change anytime soon 😔

AudacityOfHope · 17/02/2021 16:37

I can't find the picture of Marzipan!

But I'll offer free cuddles instead. Once we're allowed of course.

AudacityOfHope · 17/02/2021 16:40

If nobody can see the picture I attached to that post I'm going to look like a right twat....

Um...
Lovestonap · 17/02/2021 16:44

I need this thread. I've made my own 'roadmap in my head'. It involves the kids being back at school asap, me allowed to go on my Cornwall holiday at Easter and then being able to have a really big family party where we all get drunk and sing 'especially for you' on a karaoke machine. My head is a nice fluffy place to live which bears little resemblance to the rest of the world right now, but it feels safe to admit to it here Smile

AudacityOfHope · 17/02/2021 16:45

This is my last try then I'm slinking away.

I hate the stupid glitch on here with posting images.

OrangeBananaFish · 17/02/2021 16:51

I like that news about beaches. Not a fan of beaches, but if that means outdoors could be ok then so should parks and that could lead to parkrun. Unless the covid is scared of sand Grin

Going back to ice buns. I remember when my mum used to get me one during the weekly supermarket visit. My dad worked nights so would spend Saturday mornings in bed. The iced bun was probably a bribe to keep me on good behaviour.

I'm not surprised about beaches. Even beaches that look insanely crowded from a distance really aren't when you're on them. We had a couple of moments on holiday in the UK last summer that we were a bit taken aback at how crowded the beach looked but when we got onto it we were actually nowhere near anyone else. Certainly not within a few metres. Add the UV and air movement and it's going to be relatively safe
