I know no one has a crystal ball but what order do you think boris will open up and in what order when he sets out his roadmap?
I was thinking obviously schools first which I'm hoping in March followed in April by non essential shops then possibly hairdressers/ beauty salons in may along with pubs/ restaurants and possibly other entertainment venues june/July as long as the vaccine program keeps on track.

Lemons1571 · 12/02/2021 15:16

I think 8 March will be a few year groups, maybe R Y1 and Y11. Then everyone else after Easter. Though how will the gov get around the risk of variants due to crowds mixing (ie when schools are back as normal in May)??

Lemons1571 · 12/02/2021 15:17

Can’t see stuff like the O2 filled to capacity until 2022 at the earliest

QuiteWorried12 · 12/02/2021 15:19

Yeah something like for the order OP. All depending on vaccine uptake, infection rates etc...

All of it will be with social distancing (Covid secure) in place for the foreseeable though. Most of us will be WFH until well into 2022 (if we still have jobs then).

Ilovegreentomatoes · 12/02/2021 15:22

Well hopefully boris will give us some clarity with his announcement even if it has to change due to any unforeseen circumstances.

OP posts:
Monkeytennis97 · 12/02/2021 15:23

March 8th- primary years R,1,2 and secondary years 11 and 13 or no secondary but all primary.

After Easter-all back in. Easter vaccinating school staff. No extra precautions (masks in secondary classrooms) because of U4T and Robert Halfon and the other Tories pushing from the back. Covid whips around schools again and goes back to unvaccinated parents pre 50.

Ilovegreentomatoes · 12/02/2021 15:23

Yes theatres and concerts probably not till next year unfortunately.

OP posts:
Redcherries · 12/02/2021 15:24

@Lemons1571 yr 13 hopefully too, plus yr 12 actually as both years are doing A level exams. My daughter is absolutely surpassing all of our expectations but I know some of her friends are really struggling, I’ve no idea how she’s doing so well.

Really hoping being able to have a glass of wine or meal outside a pub will be sooner than June.

SquishySquirmy · 12/02/2021 15:26

Umm error...
Schools go back. Except wait no - not yet, errr, I mean yes. Wednesday 31st February years 1, 3, 5.8 and the sqrt of -1 are to progress in a North Easterly fashion, losing their identity around Humber-German Bight. Good to occasionally poor.

No actually, errr, schools will be open from midnight on Monday the 3rd March.
Yes that's what I said. Wednesday the 1st.
....Midnight as in Sunday night/Monday morning? Yes, that's right - Tuesday morning.

...but not all years, just pupils in the years and council areas listed on the website that keeps crashing.

We will update you last week.

Err, I mean what Scotland did.
That.

Clear?
Good, here's some mangled Latin.

Lissy23 · 12/02/2021 15:26

I’m thinking pubs, restaurants and other hospitality opening in May

sneakysnoopysniper · 12/02/2021 15:27

I do not believe for one minute that this government has a road map out of CV-19 lockdowns. Do you really think our crooked politicos are going to give up the power they have hoarded?

Monkeytennis97 · 12/02/2021 15:28

@SquishySquirmy 😂

User7458 · 12/02/2021 15:31

Schools and possibly more outdoor exercise options, March
Shops and rule of 6 outdoors, April
Pubs, restaurants and UK holidays, May

ifonly4 · 12/02/2021 15:31

Schools open in March, with a few groups in. Work for a school and they're thinking it'll be exam years and due to the fact they feel years 1 and 2 have missed out on the most that they should be in the mix.

Not sure what point, but I think the focus will be on socialising outside and economy - so non essential shops and pubs/restaurants/cafes (households only inside, six outside from two different households - I think this will be most of summer). Hairdressers, beauticians unfortunately at the back of the queue. Last time, restrictions were lifted roughly every three weeks, it'd be great if that could happen but I think the government are now more cautious with the variants and looking at how vaccines are actually working.

When we get around to think about places like O2, festivals it'll be smaller numbers and perhaps even a lottery for festivals, sports matches.

User7458 · 12/02/2021 15:32

I suspect it will be much like last year.

PicsInRed · 12/02/2021 15:50

Number 10 have less map than Magellan.

Katie517 · 12/02/2021 15:59

@ifonly4 they have already stated that hairdressers and beauty will not be last this time due to low transmission rates and all the PPE/ booking slots. Same with gyms and swimming.

Ilovegreentomatoes · 12/02/2021 16:01

So happy if hairdressers open earlier..desperate for a haircut!

Let’s hope so! Also need a haircut and desperate for a swim.

merryhollybright · 12/02/2021 16:03

Sorry to go off on a tangent but what do they mean by a road map? It sounds like another buzz word they'll use to make it sound like they know what they're doing.

whatisforteamum · 12/02/2021 16:11

I think similar to the OP but I feel we may have set backs. It won't be plain sailing surely.Hoping for the best though.

Ooooo have they? Where was this. If so that has really cheered me up Grin

VaVaGloom · 12/02/2021 17:42

Predictions and my wish list:
Schools A proud exclamation that schools are to open only it will be to cherry picked years again rather than looking at the fairer and safer alternative of introducing rotas to allow for distancing/less contacts for a few months)

Social contact
Haven't seen my Mum (in her late 70s) since September and she was vaccinated a month ago. So in April i’m hoping for 2 households rule rather than rule of 6. I really hope they follow Scotland/Wales lead and don’t count primary aged children in groups in England. Primary kids have had a raw deal- younger kids can go to nursery to socialise, secondary kids and parents can arrange to meet a friend outside but primary kids are too young to do one on one meet-ups. KS2 children seem to be bottom of their priority list so they probably won’t do anything for them.

Activities - I really hope some of the attractions you can attend as a household reopen e.g safari park you drive round in your car & national trust or equivalent grounds. Aquariums etc where you can do timed entry slots and distance. Would be great if this was for Easter (haven’t done anything in October half term, Christmas hols & now Feb half term - we need to do more than bake/walk and play on phones!!).

Pubs household groups only inside and rule of 6 outside from May would be amazing. Our local pubs had gone to great lengths to reduce risks by putting screens between tables and all staff in PPE - it felt safer & far fewer contacts than in schools or supermarkets.

Team sport and swimming - as much as I would like activities to resume & it keeps people fit I would actually restart this later -maybe May if rates are low enough. Needs to be early enough for outdoor pools to heat and open this year. Particularly in contact sports e.g football /rugby/hockey they are are mixing with people attending different schools and travelling to matches in different areas so maybe allow training but not matches against other teams to start with?

Hairdressers- April please!

Non-essential shops I don’t know what transmissions are like here but in my preferences they come after everything else above

Festivals / race meetings/stadiums none in 2021

theatres/cinema sorry outdoor only this year

Holidays free to travel round UK when rates are low fingers crossed June. Quarantine for all international travel 2021

As ever Johnson will be vague on detail. Hopefully there will be a clear roadmap with criteria that need to be met before the next set of things are opened.

Echobelly · 12/02/2021 17:47

I reckon it'll be some school years (Reception, 1, 11 and 13 maybe) on 8 March, gradual return of others, or maybe no others until after Easter.

Non-essential shops, hairdressers maybe then or by after Easter at latest.

I really hope we can see more people outdoors and outdoor attractions can be open by Easter, although in some ways it might be safer to open them after the holidays so there isn't a massive rush,

Scarily I'm honestly not sure when entertainment venues can be back, without at least requiring proof of vaccination, because, if I understand correctly, we don't want a situation of crowds where, say 40% are vaccinated and 60% aren't, because then you're just giving the virus a big petri dish to learn how to get around the vaccine.

I think mass gatherings indoors may be a way off, but what I'd like to know is whether there's a chance of, in the very least, enlarging the 'bubbles' one mixes with if households are vaccinated. Honestly, if I could see one another household indoors, once a week, that'd be a massive improvement!

Of course a lot depends if any other curveballs are thrown, like super-infectious variants, a vulnerability no one saw coming in vaccine (unlikely I reckon).
