I know no one has a crystal ball but what order do you think boris will open up and in what order when he sets out his roadmap?
I was thinking obviously schools first which I'm hoping in March followed in April by non essential shops then possibly hairdressers/ beauty salons in may along with pubs/ restaurants and possibly other entertainment venues june/July as long as the vaccine program keeps on track.

@Lifeinaonesie

I think they'll get anything that men do open first. Competitive football and rugby (oh wait, already happening Hmm) golf courses, pubs etc.

Anything that helps women like soft play, toddler support groups etc. will be banned for the foreseeable.

To add to this, DH is allowed to go angling locally as exercise which is predominantly a mans sport.

@itispersonal

I think schools should open part time on a rota to ALL children with max 15 in a class, and KW children are included in that part time too. But since the government has already messed up key worker entitlement and a lot of schools are already well past 15 in a bubble this won't happen. So it will just be a free for all. And transmissions will go up again.

They got the years wrong last time - should have been reception (as the summer term sees a lot of progress and gets them ready for yr1) and year 2 as many would have been changing schools/ going to ks2 and there's is traditionally a dip in performance during this transition year! So I have no hope in them getting it right again!

One issue with this is as a teacher, I can’t go to work to teach a bubble if my own children aren’t also in school. I do understand how unfair it feels that some dc have been at school throughout & therefore the feeling of wanting to ‘even things up’ but I can’t physically be in front of children teaching without a school place for my own dc.

I hope it will be all of primary back on 8th. I fear it may be younger years only, and presumably given there is no limit to bubble size at the moment, it will just be in full classes. If classes were half sized, that creates other issues as no space / staff for say ks1 all in plus ks2 keyworker & vulnerable.

From a secondary perspective DH wants his y10s & 11s in ASAP. Important for 11s so they can produce what is needed to assess them properly and for 10s so they don’t end up in same position as poor 11s are this year.

If you were needed in school to teach and your own child’s year group wasn’t included in the return, couldn’t you access a KW place for them?

Howshouldibehave · 13/02/2021 09:17

@MsFogi

It will be absolutely ridiculous if some years return to school on 8 March but the year 10s and 12s are not included.
I’ve got DC in those years-I think it’s almost certain they won’t be back on the 8th. 11/13 are still a much higher priority at this point, as they will need to be assessed somehow this summer.

Yes currently I can but the poster I quoted wants a return for everyone on rota including KW children.

I was explaining that whilst that feels fairest (& I really do feel for the children & families who haven’t been able to access school places), logistically it will create many difficulties.

Ah, sorry I misunderstood. I think there is zero chance of KW children being put on a rota. We have so many children of doctors/nurses/dentists/midwives coming in, the nearby hospital would collapse if the staff could only come in sometimes.

Onlinedilema · 13/02/2021 09:28

I agree that ' men's' things will open up first.

Our school have released a video of keyworker children in our primary school for the children working from home. It’s a spectacular mistake in my opinion only serving to make those at home feel more excluded. Was seeing their classmates in school, playing with friends in the playground, doing dress up, sitting at their desks working and doing a science experiment - really supposed to cheer up children alone at home with parents worrying about the gaps homeschooling is creating and distractedly trying to get on with their own work.

Why can’t they create some small group keeping in touch events outside for the kids at home. It feels even more unfair that some kids have not played with another child since December and then seeing others having contact and education as normal. Yes I understand why keyworker / vulnerable children are in school f/t but there needs to be some consideration for the children not in school (many of whom also were at home March-Sept) and their parents who also have valuable work they need to do.

I am so pissed of that the Government have cast aside these children - they could be buying marquees/portaloos/ partitions for desks but they are doing nothing to improve the conditions in school that will allow all children some onsite education.

Idontwantarow · 13/02/2021 11:49

I’m so confused.
Why do people think it won’t be all year groups?
Everything I’ve read/heard has said all primary year groups March 8th...

@Idontwantarow

Because they didn’t reopen for everyone all at once in June.

Because they’ve said they’ll reopen ‘from’ March 8th.

I haven’t seen anywhere that’s said all primary year groups from the 8th-can you link please to what you’ve seen that says otherwise?

Idontwantarow · 13/02/2021 11:56

I read this article this morning,
www.google.co.uk/amp/s/inews.co.uk/news/politics/boris-johnson-considering-reopening-schools-once-big-bang-approach-870371/amp

Maybe I’ve got my ‘head stuck in the sand’ though because I need the hope 🙏

VaVaGloom · 13/02/2021 11:58

@Idontwantarow from DfE language - from 8th March we hope more children can return to school. No pledges committing to full re-opening. No investment to make schools safer to allow full reopening. Past experience - last March I had one child in school ft from May the other had NO school until Sept. No summer of catch up materialised last year. The Government will let the same children fall behind again this year/ not have any social contact. What makes you think they wouldn’t?

Idontwantarow · 13/02/2021 12:12

I feel it was a mistake not to have all children back when the cases were low and it was summer so less pressure on NHS naturally?
I had hoped we wouldn’t make that mistake again now that cases are falling

Tillymintsmama · 13/02/2021 12:20

Eyes down.... let's go for a full house hey?

That is true, but cases numbers were down to under 1000 in the summer.... they're still around 15,000 now 😳

VaVaGloom · 13/02/2021 12:41

@ConstanceMoss I can’t quite remember the timeline but don’t think we had as much community testing back in May last year to give a true reflection of cases then?

We didn’t have ANYONE vaccinated then. We now have the top4 most vulnerable categories vaccinated - didn’t someone say that covers 88% of the people in categories who already sadly lost their lives to Covid.

I don’t want to throw unvaccinated school staff under the bus though so would rather they were given priority vaccinations now and had PPE / protective screens etc installed.

ConstanceMoss · 13/02/2021 12:48

Yes, I think you are right. Things are definitely better now with testing and the vaccination programme. We just need to be carefully to avoid another spike.

We are at the same position we were at the start of December (except of course with more vaccinated people)...

It was also partially because schools weren’t fully open that cases were low last summer - eg only a few years of separate bubbled of 15 in. Opening schools fully with no additional measures will mean more cases. It will help if they test pupils and staff prior to return though.

Women’s football is also already happening.
Frazzled2207 · 13/02/2021 13:17

@Lifeinaonesie
Sport definitely benefits women as well as men. And can be done outside.
Support groups for babies and mums were prioritised during the autumn and continued through lockdown 2 so I think will be one of the first to restart
Soft play is further down the line but not sure that really benefits mums more than the kids. We are very lucky that playgrounds are currently open.

MsFogi · 13/02/2021 13:17

@Onlinedilema

I agree that ' men's' things will open up first.
Totally agree with this. It was incredible the Johnson put in a specific exemption for personal trainers so that he could keep on using his (so no sports that could be done on a socially distanced basis but if you can afford a personal trainer you're fine).
KitKat1985 · 13/02/2021 13:36

I think schools going back on a phased return basis will be the main priority on 8th March.

I think in April non-essential shops, restaurants and hotels will re-open but you will only be allowed to visit in your household and with masks as appropriate. Probably also outdoor attractions like zoos will open around then as well. Probably around the same time outdoor meet ups will be allowed but with the rule of 6 or similar still in place.

I think about May / June indoor household mixing will be allowed again but only in small groups, and 'close contact' service industries like hairdressers and spas will be allowed to re-open with appropriate PPE.

I don't think any big scale events like concerts or anything will happen until very late this year or next year though when the vaccine roll out if near completion.

Long term I think going for an annual covid job to deal with new variants, in the same manner as an annual flu jab, will be expected, and I think many countries will make proof of vaccination a requirement before you can travel there.

Lifeinaonesie · 13/02/2021 15:35

Yes of course women can watch mens competitive sports and women's sports may be happening too but this government have consistently prioritised masculine pursuits during all of this. Having had a baby over lockdown I can tell you baby and toddler groups were not at all prioritised in autumn and basic services like health visitors and midwife support has been non existent, but the golf clubs were open so that's ok Hmm

chuggingtons · 13/02/2021 15:52

@ConstanceMoss we are most definitely not in the same place as we were in December...the new variant hadn't taken hold at that point...this is why case numbers are still high and will be difficult to get down
