I know no one has a crystal ball but what order do you think boris will open up and in what order when he sets out his roadmap?
I was thinking obviously schools first which I'm hoping in March followed in April by non essential shops then possibly hairdressers/ beauty salons in may along with pubs/ restaurants and possibly other entertainment venues june/July as long as the vaccine program keeps on track.

@Lifeinaonesie I can see uni’s and accommodation providers in a lot of trouble if that happens next academic year. The government can’t expect students to pay full fees for online and for accommodation they can’t use for another year. I’ve already seen groups and movements popping up to get some weight behind them to get better support for uni students. It’s a disgrace that the poorest working age adults have not only been forgot but are expected to pay for things they’re not getting.

I am hopeful that there may be a slight reopening of certain activities including possibly fully opening primary schools in England initially within a month from the second week of March 2020.

However this would of course be dependent on our continued mostly adherence to moderate and be mindful of our potential collective Covid behaviour footprint. If many Covidiots push the boundaries or criminally even break the laws (guided by science) - then the only direct impact is yet more restrictions and so further perpetual yo yo close and reopening of society with more long term excess lives and livelihoods lost as collateral damage.

The sterling UK national vaccination program is much to be applauded but not if the Kent (or Bristol or countless other) variants from continued mutating asymptomatic super spreading reduce the efficacy of vaccines.

Looking forward to some return to normality around Spring and Easter! Please wear a mask, check your proximity and get on top of your hygiene game and don't destroy all the pain and suffering many of us have scarified hibernating not by choice. We owe our amazing front line health care professionals to ensure they can start to treat other illnesses going forward too!

Stay safe all and remember always be civic duty of care mindful to check your potential Covid footprint to be a part of the solution and not forever the cause.

That's why most staff have been astounded at the plans. None of us want it and it puts us all at risk of redundancy. I for one would much rather teach face to face, although I'd concede that students this year have had a lot more support than 'normal' which I think will make for a hard transition for those going into their second year if we do go back to face to face lectures.

-8th March primary and exam years
-Week after rest of Senior
-Mid March non essential shops outside mixing
-April hospitality and gyms (with restrictions) indoor mixing
-July/Aug international travel heavily disincentivisesd with 3x tests (departure 2 on arrival during mostly home Q except red countries. Further disincentive will be possible switch to red country at short notice necessitating hotel Q)
-International travel akin to corridors Sept onwards once kids back and once other countries caught up with our vax effort.

-Re vax Oct on with tweaked vaccines, probably only groups 1-9.

I want to know when we can see people 😩

VaVaGloom · 13/02/2021 19:56

I agree @Lelophsnts haven’t seen my mum for months, she was vaccinated a month ago when can we see her? We need schools to educate our children and be able to see the people we love those are the essential parts of life.

VaVaGloom · 13/02/2021 20:07

@Yoshinori equal rights for women deserve discussion everywhere not just in the ‘feminist’ section. There are more women than men juggling teaching/supervising children while they work from home (or having to take leave or leave employment) . Real issues affecting lives and livelihoods due to lockdown Biscuit

I'll stick my neck out and say I think it's possible that by the end of the spring, we could have more freedom than we did last summer (at least within the UK border!), due to the over-50s being vaccinated. I think there should still be limits on large-crowd events, but otherwise a shift to personal responsibility as mentioned months ago.

VaVaGloom · 05/03/2021 08:57

Just resurrecting this thread:

VaVaGloom On holidays they better not let the vaccinated swan off without quarantine while so many of us working and homeschooling won’t get chance to be vaccinated twice any time soon - it wouldn’t surprise me if they did kick us in the teeth though!

@jasjas1973 Don’t worry its inconceivable that a uk scheme will be up and running & recognised by other countries in the next 6 to 8 months

Politically, imagine saying to under 30s you can't go abroad but your parents can?
@GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing

Cut to today - Cyprus announce holidaymakers from UK who have had 2 vaccinations will be welcome from May!

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 05/03/2021 09:55

@VaVaGloom yes that’s what i think. It won’t happen this year as it’d be so unpopular.

Yes the younger people don’t generally vote Tory but they might riot!

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 05/03/2021 09:56

Also - no one with kids will be able to go!

Cyprus might say it but the UK might not be making the passports

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 05/03/2021 10:00

(I don’t really have any skin in the game as I will have had the vaccines by end of May, but not booked to go abroad)

UmteenthUser · 05/03/2021 10:06

Two vaccinations by May is barely all the over 70s, it will be only a very small demographic allowed by then, most over 50s won't be until end of June for two vaccinations + one week. Health care workers will be able to go though
