A continuation of the thread for those of us taking part in the Vaccine trial.
Never had a thread continue to part 2 before so quite excited.

Ah! Good idea re taking pics of the monitor. More credible than scribbles on a piece of paper!

I've just checked my notes from my first jab last time. Side effects started about 10pm.

I am already predicting that I will be the same tomorrow- actually hoping I have some minor kind of reaction having not had any at all last time[/quote]
I’m also hoping for side effects this time (2 more weeks to wait!). I will be truly perplexed if I don’t get any Confused

Vargas · 01/04/2021 15:40

So great to hear people are getting the crossover now, 8 days to go until mine...not that I'm counting Smile. And great to hear that they seem to have a good process for the vaccine passport issue.

I wonder if we count in the daily vaccination figures Hmm, although I guess we are just a drop in the ocean. A very important drop, obviously!

andadietcoke · 01/04/2021 15:42

@Vargas no I don't think so. When you register your PCR test it asks you if you've been vaccinated and the answer is 'no'.

Ha am definitely not out of the woods yet then!

I think everyone has different reactions, dependent on how their immune system reacts to the vaccine. First jab that I had felt fine until later that evening (not knowing whether it was vaccine or placebo), when aching started to radiate on the jab side from my upper back to lower back (as far down as the bottom of my rib cage) and progressed for the next 24 hours upwards into my neck. The only way to describe it was ‘like whiplash’. A few ibuprofen through the next day and some before bed, at it’s worse point, and the next day I was fine. The only lasting effect was nausea for approx 3 weeks- but I don’t tolerate medicines very well! Second jab, a slightly achy arm, but that’s all.

I know people who have had the AZ jab with no reaction, and others that have been poorly from it.

Torvean · 01/04/2021 18:36

Here's a link to a thing in a newspaper where it can show an estimate of when you would get vaccinated on the NHS.

www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/covid-vaccine-calculator-indicates-youll-23828202?_ga=2.267193422.11482612.1617298071-4298298.1614031205

Torvean · 01/04/2021 18:40

Did you all get swabbed again???? The thought of that makes me feel sick 😷

Yes. Tbh I’ve been doing them myself for quite a while now so sort of used to it. What was worse tbh was trying to register the test on my phone afterwards.

This is my unblinded letter.

It states the dates of each vaccine given.

I wonder when you get your vaccine passports if it will state dates? Which will mean you'll find out whether you got the vaccine first or second.

I know it's something that I'd want to know, it's not vital but definitely something that would interest me!

I'm happy with my decision as I've had 4 weeks back in school feeling much safer!

So happy you are all getting second jabs! Novavax is ace!

Novavax vaccine trial part 2
Daftapath · 01/04/2021 21:18

@BG2015 yes, the certificates I was shown would have dates of all 4 injections and the batch numbers. In October, we would find out which injections were the vaccine and will be given dates for any boosters required

Frazzled2207 · 01/04/2021 21:32

@BG2015
Pleased you’re feeling good about it

I wonder, given that obviously loads of people have been involved in various trials, that perhaps there might be an “exception” to putting actual dates in for trial participants. Also intrigued to know how it will work, I suspect the answer is nobody actually knows yet

It was a tough decision to unblind. I thought about it for days.

I'd initially decided to stay in the trial as I thought schools would be closed longer but Boris stuck to his 8th March date so that clinched it for me. I needed to know. Asthmatic, 52 and a teacher!

Well done to all of you that have gone the whole mile though!

I'm proud of what we've all done. It's my 5 minutes of fame

Torvean · 02/04/2021 01:36

I wonder how the booster will work for those who the vaccine in October. In the sense of who will administer it.

andadietcoke · 02/04/2021 09:33

@Torvean Dr Baxter said there may be two types of booster - one for new variants and one just as a top up. He said there were no current plans to extend the trial but he could see it as a possibility. As he expects Novavax to be part of the NHS vaccine programme by June we would get access to the boosters through that if they materialise and the trial doesn't continue. He did however say he could see a scenario where we might be invited to stay in a trial for the next 1 / 3 / 5 years and would get boosters and combi vaccinations through that.

andadietcoke · 02/04/2021 09:34

@Frazzled2207 any side effects? Absolutely zero here so am reassured I did have the active vaccine in the autumn and didn't just have a weird placebo effect response.

Frazzled2207 · 02/04/2021 09:38

@andadietcoke
24 hours on and nothing! So have gone from being absolutely certain I had not had the vaccine to being absolute certain that I have yet no idea when it was. A bit weird tbh.
Pleased you are also ok this time but I imagine you would have been mega miffed if you did!

OP posts:
WhyIsMyKitchenSoCold · 02/04/2021 09:39

Had mine yesterday. Absolutely no effects whatsoever, not even a slightly sore arm, which I had after both jabs last year. Now thinking I must have had the active vaccine initially and wondering about boosters, given anyone who had them last year will (presumably) see declining immunity if that is a problem sooner than people who had theirs through the NHS. All of that said, I’m really pleased to still be part of the trial and also proud of doing something positive, however small, to contribute to the vaccine programme.

andadietcoke · 02/04/2021 10:00

@Frazzled2207 that is weird but also how amazing that there's a vaccine about to be available that might stop all the whinging on fb about vaccine side effects Grin

Frazzled2207 · 02/04/2021 10:51

@andadietcoke
Yes indeed! My neighbours just had a moan over the fence about how ill they were after the Az.
That said they still don’t really know about the rare side effects do they. Trialling it in tens of thousands is not the same as stabbing it into tens of millions.

OP posts:
Daftapath · 02/04/2021 12:30

I guess at least by being in the trial we will have our antibodies regularly monitored so they can make informed decisions about when and what sort of boosters are required.

Absolutely no side effects here still either. I did hear a nurse telling another participant that they had lots of people who were certain they had the vaccine because they had side effects and turned out that they hadn't as well as lots who thought they hadn't because of no reactions but turned out they had the actual vaccine. So who knows! It will be fascinating to find out in October.

Frazzled2207 · 02/04/2021 13:22

@Daftapath

How on Earth would the nurse know?

Because the people who have been unblinded are still going for follow-up appointments!

Daftapath · 02/04/2021 13:51

Queenofthorns, that was my assumption too. Also, from looking at the data. All our symptom reports would have been recorded whether we had the vaccine or the placebo and then would have been minutely analysed and compiled.
