So, what are you going to do?

To the people who are saying they won't stand this any longer:

What exactly do you plan to do?

March on the streets?

Run out of your house and hug your family?

Not wear masks?

Because you can't go to the cinema, theatre, festivals, shops, libraries, cafes, pubs, send your children to school, see beauticians etc without the government's say so.

I'm just interested to know what the alternative is to trying to keep the infection rate down is.

I hope that this time there will be a phased approach, so that we can see the impact of each stage of reopening schools (community vectors) after a fortnight or so, rather than just ploughing on regardless.

Genuine question, what do you think should happen if cases go back up, say when schools open (which some experts say it will), or when shops reopen? Close schools again? Keep shops closed indefinitely?

@SexTrainGlue

How long is doing it properly, is it until every business in the land is fooked?

No.

Right now it's until the hospitals are not full of covid patients - as if yesterday, there were still more that at the height of the first peak. R is below one as a result of the lockdown, so if we can hold it there we watch for the the new case number to decline.

Once that is done, we can start reopening, and I hope that this time there will be a phased approach, so that we can see the impact of each stage of reopening schools (community vectors) after a fortnight or so, rather than just ploughing on regardless.

The economy and business would be far more fucked from stop/start strong restrictions than from a measured approach now.

Rubbish, I work in restructuring, businesses are fooked....
SexTrainGlue · 13/02/2021 09:02

I think that they wouid at that stage need to pause any further easing of restrictions. And tell the public that as cases are once again rising, then nothing more can re-open until it has gone back down. The message ought to be:

'Oi if you want more shops open, because economic damage kills, then stop mingling with your DC's school friends parents, or deciding that because some other activity X is permitted them you're going to do Y as well; because we can just about keep transmission down far enough if we have X level of contact, but it just ain't working at Y. Vaccine coverage ever widening (and from late March second shots too) - we can avoid 'armistice wave' if we don't rush'

But if postponement/expanantiin doesn't work, then yes I suppose some reversals might have to be come necessary. Which would be a shame as that's avoidable

SexTrainGlue · 13/02/2021 09:03

Agree some businesses are fucked already.

But thar's not a reason to fuck over even more, is it?

So .... we just go in and out of lockdown forever .... vaccines dont stop transmission. It's going to just keep spreading forever.

Locking down ad Infinitumnis screwing them over, honestly some of you people think we can fund furlough forever?!

This is such a massive mess, just one more bash at lockdown is a nonsense theory. It's here to stay, we desperately need to accept that and live with it.
