So, what are you going to do?

To the people who are saying they won't stand this any longer:

What exactly do you plan to do?

March on the streets?

Run out of your house and hug your family?

Not wear masks?

Because you can't go to the cinema, theatre, festivals, shops, libraries, cafes, pubs, send your children to school, see beauticians etc without the government's say so.

I'm just interested to know what the alternative is to trying to keep the infection rate down is.

@Someonetookmyname it is worrying I agree . Acquaintances I knew before lockdown have become very strange and terrified of the thought of going back to a normal life .

ssd · 12/02/2021 17:00

@Someonetookmyname

“I think you'll find this is the new normal, no way will we go back to the way were were, that was evident when the two week lockdown of March continued for a year.”

No, this isn’t the new normal. People will simply refuse to live like this once the vulnerable have been vaccinated. They can’t arrest everyone.

It’s very worrying how much people seem to want to be locked down under state control.

I know absolutely no one who wants to be locked down like this, to me that is just the most ridiculous thing to say. People are doing what they can as they have no choice.
Fembot123 · 12/02/2021 17:23

@SallyB392

I did say if we are still being asked to remain at home. I don't want to not see my family, I desperately WANT to see them but not at any cost. I fall into the very vulnerable group, so will have my first vaccine soon, my husband has had his because of his age. But anyone who reads the reports from WHO or the vaccine manufacturers knows that the vaccines at this stage, are ineffective against the current Covid variants. The vaccines are not going to end Covid, Covid is going to be around for a very long time, our only true arsenal against this biological enemy is to hit in the belly. If I was in power we would have had total lockdown, all shops and work places would have closed. Each household would have received a weekly food delivery, no going out, a complete stop to everywhere except essential services. We would live under martial law for 6 weeks. With no hosts the virus would have stopped incubating, and then with all our borders closed, life could restart, properly. But instead, people led by an ineffective government, do what they want, when they want. And yes I've stuck my head over the parapet, and ruffled feathers, but I'm entitled to.
Ruffled feathers? 😂😂😂 You really really didnt
snowisfallingallaroundus · 12/02/2021 17:50
@snowisfallingallaroundus of course that's true . Following the rules means limited contact , and as soon as you return to normal life and contact with other human beings , the R rate will go up, of course it will.
Are you prepared to " follow the rules" forever ? I'm not.
I am prepared to keep following the rules and I also think we are moving into a new normal and the old way of life is gone.

I know that is a very very hard thing to accept. I'm sorry for everyone suffering but the sooner you get your head around this then the better you can adjust and still live a life that is meaningful.

It's awful but it's happening.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 12/02/2021 18:00

@snowisfallingallaroundus are you saying you're prepared not to see family and friends or at least socially distance from them forever?

TheKeatingFive · 12/02/2021 18:02

Oh please Hmm

Like somehow this pandemic is different to the many humankind have faced before that didn’t kill off our ways of life.

Quit being such a doom mongering muppet. It’s embarrassing.

PicsInRed · 12/02/2021 18:06

I am prepared to keep following the rules and I also think we are moving into a new normal and the old way of life is gone.

Crack on then 😂

I'll be living my life again how I see fit from April - and taking up every exemption rightly and legally available to me in order to do so.

Fuck "the science" and "the rules". It's a nonsense now and if vaccination doesn't work, we need to accept it (and those who don't will need to make their own choices - me and mine will have sacrificed over a year for this, no longer).

snowisfallingallaroundus · 12/02/2021 18:07

@TheKeatingFive

Kermit wears a mask.

I am preparing for life to be very different. How I work, accessing education more online than at university, stricter travel rules.

It will be different.

Just do it now then. Go to the shops, go on holiday, meet friends. Crack on.

And wear a mask like Kermit.

TheKeatingFive · 12/02/2021 18:11

Kermit wears a mask.

He’s not the one bleating total nonsense though, in fairness to him.

snowisfallingallaroundus · 12/02/2021 18:13

But he is wearing a mask and is committed to doing so.

Muppets unite!

Ddot · 12/02/2021 18:15

The last major pandemic spanish flu lasted three years, it's a long time I agree but its doable to save my family and friends. I'd love to go out, put on my posh frock and dance but it's not possible or safe. I'm going to wait

Everyone has to wait for that unless you want to dance in a closed venue Hmm
PicsInRed · 12/02/2021 18:18

Each household would have received a weekly food delivery, no going out, a complete stop to everywhere except essential services. We would live under martial law for 6 weeks.

Who delivers the food, who loads the food, who packs the food, who transports the food, who picks the vegetables, slaughters the meat, delivers the fertiliser, fuels the transport trucks, maintains clean water, keeps the gas and electric running, arrests looters and murderers, performs surgery on the truck driver who crashed and tore their abdomen open or administer a transfusion to an acute paediatric patient, who puts out the fire at the local industrial estate which Sparky the local pyromanic lit last night?

You really haven't thought this through.

I'm not waiting 3 years to see my family! There's a good chance they might not still be here by then. Do you really think people who don't live with their partners aren't going see them for 3 years?
TheKeatingFive · 12/02/2021 18:18

Martial law

😂😂😂

Just do it now then. Go to the shops, go on holiday, meet friends. Crack on.

I will, as much as possible, as many as I please, whenever I please, and for as long as I like, using any and all exemptions available to solve any arbitrary roadblocks "The Science" should happen to impose.

If the border remains open, I'm going to make up for all the hols I didn't have last year - by sticking to green list countries. See? Exemptions. If I get screwed with a stint in hotel quarantine, I'll just sleep off all that jetlag. 🎉🎉🎉✈

And wear a mask like Kermit.

No, shan't.

@ssd

“ I know absolutely no one who wants to be locked down like this, to me that is just the most ridiculous thing to say. People are doing what they can as they have no choice.”

There is always a choice. If everyone disregards lockdown, there is not a lot the government can do about it.

Most who support lockdown do it out of fear. A small minority genuinely seem to like it. Comfy working from home, maybe some furlough pay for doing nothing. Maybe they didn’t go out loads before anyway. Now they get to live as they did before, but call themselves a hero on social media.

Dontforgetyourbrolly · 12/02/2021 18:38

There are definitely people that are loving lockdown . Some through fear and as pp said some that didnt really do much anyway and secretly delight in everyone else being stuck at home. Strange but true

Nope, you can have a bit more freedom that attending raves, like being able to walk outside your own area without risk of harassment and fines!!
