To the people who are saying they won't stand this any longer:

What exactly do you plan to do?

March on the streets?

Run out of your house and hug your family?

Not wear masks?

Because you can't go to the cinema, theatre, festivals, shops, libraries, cafes, pubs, send your children to school, see beauticians etc without the government's say so.

I'm just interested to know what the alternative is to trying to keep the infection rate down is.

I can cope for now, but its breaking my heart seeing my kids suffer.

So, in a few weeks time I'll let them meet a few friends at the same time - probably outside if the weather is nice. If it's not, then fuck it, they can a friend round to play.

@Penny13720

I saw something on one of the threads on here which really stuck out to me - it was along the lines of ‘if this was Ebola or affecting children then none of us would need to be told what to do’. It’s so true. If the death rate was 100,000 children, we would all be saying, if we have to stay in for five years so be it. No arguments, no accusations of being ‘lockdown lovers’, no questions asked.

I was watching the news yesterday and there were arrivals from Brazil walking straight through as the hotel quarantine isn’t in place yet. The reporter asked her why did you go to Brazil? Her reply was ‘because nothing is open here in the UK so we went for a holiday’. I also was in M&S doing the food shop on Saturday - full to the brim of old ladies doing their shopping, not distancing and let’s face it not really needing to buy their cakes and flowers.

So seriously what is the actual bloody point if the government have allowed out borders to be completely open for a whole year? Let’s shut schools and deprive our children of their education but just allow people to freely come in and out with their mutant strains they’re so worried about.

I have seen family throughout, I’m not proud of it and I’m not rubbing it in, but I had to for my mental health. I meet friends regularly for walks and that helps keep that side of my life in tact.

Once the vulnerable have been vaccinated, we surely have to say we have tried our best and done all we can. Surely at that point there’s nothing left to do.

Interestingly there is also a report this morning on how the NHS needs reform due to an ageing population and a rise in chronic health conditions. Another reason why our death rate is so high and which no one have a fig about before all this.

Of course we bloody would but it ISNT soooo 😂😂 Hilarious that you’d complain about people in M&S when you are there too 🤦🏼‍♀️
toolatetooearly · 11/02/2021 10:10

I want to go to the pub or a gig way more than I want to see most of my family. I love them but right now I'd much rather see a loud band in a hot sweaty venue than hug my brother.

Fembot123 · 11/02/2021 10:13

@Penny13720

Ummmm *@OpheliasCrayon and @PinkSparklyPussyCat* yes it was Ok for me to be in there because I’m 30 with no underlying health conditions. Would also happily do those old ladies shops for them and drop it off to them to minimise their risk.

This is also a problem. People have been scared witless by the government but can’t asses their level of risk.

@LucilleTheVampireBat I’m so sorry about your friends who committed suicide. No one is taking about this. No one is talking about how many people are actually catching this thing in hospital - the NHS is not protecting a lot of people. I know because I had a baby during all this.

How bloody patronising, they are allowed there too and to make their own decisions, it’s naff all to do with you.
Fembot123 · 11/02/2021 10:15

@trappedsincesundaymorn

Penny13720

If they have been vaccinated and you haven't, then maybe the risk to you is greater. If you ask them nicely they may get your shopping for you.

😂😂😂
PinkSparklyPussyCat · 11/02/2021 10:22

@PinkSparklyPussyCat you were the one telling me my shopping is obviously more important when I’m actually pointing out that some people are doing things which raises their risk to this - that’s is totally their choice.

Yes because you're complaining about people being in a shop and raising their risk while you were in the same shop and therefore raising your risk and that of others!

Never mind.

SparkysMagicPiano · 11/02/2021 11:46

Seriously, there's nothing they can do about ultimately apart from visiting their family and friends

If your family is in another country then this isn't really an option.

Maybe I'll google "how to hijack and fly a plane"

Lovemusic33 · 11/02/2021 11:54

I will be seeing friends come March and family, I’m not bothered about things like going to the pub, cinema etc..as I don’t really do those things anyway.

Going on the fact a lot of people will be vaccinated by March including most of my family and friends, I feel it will be safer to see people and have people in my garden ( possibly home too). Of course it will be up to people if hey want to come near me or not.

People can’t carry on like this forever, people are dying of other things and have been unable to see their family for a year, people are taking their lives when maybe a chat or a hug could have saved them? It would be crazy for this to carry on through summer (for another year), we need to learn to live with it.

RichardMarxisinnocent · 11/02/2021 11:59

Yeah, I’ve been seeing family that live that far away and so have several of my friends.
5 hours away?
I think I need to stop reading these threads. I end up feeling upset and like a complete mug for abiding by the rules. I am by nature a rule follower so would feel awful doing anything other than a very minor rule break (eg I met someone outside for a walk last year before it was allowed, plus hugged my DP outside once before bubbles were introduced). Taking a 5 hour train trip to visit people indoors feels too major a break to me.

Igglepigglepeppaandgeorge · 11/02/2021 12:10

@RichardMarxisinnocent I end up feeling sad that so many of the people I would like to see are rule followers. Hopefully you get to see your family soon x

Yes. I’ve done that journey by train and car when it wasn’t allowed, for a relative who needed me. The comment re your DP makes it tempting to agree that you are a bit of a mug, tbh, but my main take on that is that no government should ever have asked you not to hug your DP in the first place.

You’ve hugged your DP once?? In how long.
marieantoinehairnet · 11/02/2021 12:57

Start travelling wherever the hell I want for a walk etc in my car, which let's face it, was never a dangerous thing to do anyway.

marieantoinehairnet · 11/02/2021 12:58

They're now debating whether we should be able to take our children to the park, or whether our own gardens should do. If we have one of course. Honestly, it's control freakery of the highest level, about time it stopped.

RichardMarxisinnocent · 11/02/2021 13:29

God no, of course i haven't only hugged him once, we've been in a support bubble since they were introduced. I meant that last year in the few weeks between being allowed to meet one person for a socially distanced walk and the introduction of support bubbles, we generally abided by the rules and distanced from each other when we met for a walk, but we did hug once.

RichardMarxisinnocent · 11/02/2021 13:34

If a relative needed you then it quite probably was allowed to travel. And thanks for calling me a mug, but I was only doing what a lot of people were doing and abiding by the rules. There was a thread on here about people who don't live with their partners and many of us were meeting for distanced walks and not seeing our DPs indoors prior to the introduction of support bubbles.

Do you think everyone who is continuing to follow the rules is a mug? Do you look look down on us and feel superior to us?

No, it wasn’t allowed, that’s why I said “when it wasn’t allowed”. I don’t care whether people follow the rules or not, it would be no skin off my nose if you never left your house again in your life. I won’t be following them myself though.

The parliament?
Avaganda · 11/02/2021 16:45

When I say I can't carry on like this I mean mentally. I've started self harming and the longer this goes on the worse it gets Sad I fear my children might not have a mum if this carries on much longer. I won't be a covid death so it least it won't matter.

It will, have a read through this thread and you’ll see the overwhelming majority of posters on it are with you in having enough
