Great.

MaxNormal · 09/02/2021 12:12

I don't see anything too concerning in that article.

x2boys · 09/02/2021 12:18

Is this not the Kent variant ?,I read in my local paper that there had been an outbreak of the Kent variant in parts of Manchester ,I'm in Bolton .

MaxNormal · 09/02/2021 12:22

"There is no evidence that this variant will be resistant to the vaccines or causes a more severe illness"

Ilikewinter · 09/02/2021 12:23

This is the Kent mutation, theyve identified 4 cases, 2 different families with no apparent ties

Beaniecats · 09/02/2021 12:24

It's not Manchester variant is that Kent variant
Who cares tbh

tatutata · 09/02/2021 12:25

I don't get why this is even news. I thought we were fully expecting the Kent variant to spread throughout the country, and it's covered by the existing vaccines.

titchy · 09/02/2021 12:31

I think it's because it makes you call everyone 'our kid' and put gravy on your chips.

CoffeeandCroissant · 09/02/2021 12:32

It's the 'UK variant' B.1.1.7 (sometimes called the Kent variant) but with the E484K mutation (also found in the South African (B.1.351) and Brazilian (B.1.1.28) variants.

This. People need to stop the scare mongering. How can people be happy trying to spread fear? Whats wrong with you??
JS87 · 09/02/2021 12:42

@Unanananana
It’s not the Kent variant which has already spread to be the dominant strain in the U.K.

it’s the Kent strain with the additional mutation which is seen in the South African and Brazil strains.

JS87 · 09/02/2021 12:42

Which the vaccines are probably less effective against.

Stop scare-mongering.

Unanananana · 09/02/2021 12:45

"Probably?"

Is there any proper evidence yet? Or just the tiny study that has been in the news recently?

TheJerkStore · 09/02/2021 12:48

Which the vaccines are probably less effective against.

Do you have any evidence for this?

Iremembertheelderlykoreanlady · 09/02/2021 12:53

Honestly, it feels like people are busily searching the internet for "bad news", posting it on here and then sitting back and gleefully rubbing their hands together.

At least post balanced articles rather than this scaremongering bullshit!

LApprentiSorcier · 09/02/2021 12:54

Chips and gravy ... Smile

baroqueandblue · 09/02/2021 13:01

Yep, some people want things to just go on being shit, and they think that if they wish it hard enough it'll happen. Thankfully, Nature and Science are calling the actual shots and they're not doing it for the lolz.

Chips and gravy... chippies that do curry and rice... sausage dinners... why did I ever leave the north-west?! Sad

titchy · 09/02/2021 13:04

Wouldn't disagree! Grin
Frazzled2207 · 09/02/2021 13:08

There is nothing to be unduly concerned about. Putting a positive spin on it the government just want to better understand how new mutant strains are spreading. Four cases in two households so far have been identified so the answer is probably “not much”. It’s a bit of a non-story but obviously important for those in the appropriate areas to know about it so that they can get a test.
