I met one of those "I'm not putting that in my body"

people this week. I didn't think they really existed.

It was at a (virtual) networking thing. Professional people who are in a category where some LAs are vaccinating us and some aren't. Most people in the "room" had already had the vaccination, except this one very vocal woman.

An educated woman, 40ish, in a position of responsibility, working in a sector supporting vulnerable people (hence the access to vaccines). I've met her before and she always seemed very switched on, socially responsible and very capable in her role.

As I said, I thought these people were a bit of an internet myth, but if they did exist, I didn't expect them to be people like this.

Have you met any?

@Grannycurls

I'm also one of those.

I'm also one of those people who read ingredient lists on packaging, don't touch processed food, am fussy about fats, don't drink (more than an occasional glas of wine) or smoke, and have (reluctantly, because I have a sweet tooth!) given up added sugar in my foods.
Guess what, some people are like that. Get off your high horse.

Your list of rather compromised denials doesn't absolve you from being inconsistent.

@noodlmcdoodl

I’m one of ‘those’ awful people too. This is mega for me, because it’s new so long term effects aren’t known. To put it in context. I don’t drink, I don’t smoke. I’m super fit and healthy. I think extremely carefully about what goes in my body. For example I suffered from migraines and tension headaches for years, they were ruining my life. I went to my GP hoping for tests to work out why it was happening, so I could resolve it. I was quite clear about this. Instead I was offered all sorts of medication which would only tackle the symptoms not fix the cause. So Beta-Blockers, mild anti- depressants (the old type) and some strong anti-convulsants. I declined because I researched them and the potential risks/ side effects. To someone super healthy and fit it seemed bizarre to take something which could damage my health. If they’d have ‘fixed’ the problem rather than merely acting as a sticking plaster and were a short term thing I’d have been tempted. Anyway I eventually saw a consultant and was offered Botox (injecting something developed as a biological weapon into my body - err no thanks). In the mean time I’d discovered Osteopathy worked for me. So after 6 months of intensive treatment and with regular prescribed stretching and exercising I was pain free.

I’m totally up to date with all my vaccines. As is my DS and DP.

But forgive me if I’m extremely cautious about this going in my body. I would feel a lot more confident and comfortable in a few years time, I think.

What medications do not have side effects? Going to a gp who would prescribe a medication for such migraines!

Look at what you wrote.
Grannycurls · 08/02/2021 08:43

I wrote about things I do not put into my body. If that is confusing to you, then it's your problem

Ethelfromnumber73 · 08/02/2021 09:50

@Pinkmarsh

I know very few people that want the vaccine when it becomes available to them.
I think that's called an echo chamber?
Dodododahdahdah · 08/02/2021 10:39

Argue all you want but when this vaccine filters down to the younger generations you are going to see a big kick back and percentage of up take dive. Then we’ll see who has more bottle. The Government or the people.

Dodododahdahdah · 08/02/2021 10:41

I’ve seen that at my own work. The young people are not buying this crap. Good for them.

sally067 · 08/02/2021 11:48

My boss is one of those who doesn't want the vaccine.

I've told her that the virus is likely endemic and isn't going to go anywhere plus you still might be able to transmit the virus asymptomatically even after the vaccine but it stops you getting serious disease.

She still won't budge and has told senior management that she expects facemasks and social distancing to continue in the office even after the vaccination programme and when things start getting back to normal to protect her and others who don't want the vaccine.

Can she actually do this? Is it a reasonable request?

Why are you glad about this? What happened to 'you do you'? It's your choice not to have the vaccine but why do you need other people not having it for vindication? Surely if you've 'done your research' and are happy with your choice you wouldn't be quite so gleeful about other people not having it?

I wouldn't be surprised to find out that the government are already planning their latest guilt-tripping campaign, to target young people. Maybe 'Make the most of your lives, take the vaccine' or something.

Your boss is an idiot the best way she can protect herself is to have the vaccine. She can't expect the rest of the world to protect her when she won't protect herself!

Because the more people that say no and stand up for their rights the less chance we have of moving towards forced medical procedures being acceptable.

Also, I'm sure you have thoughts on masks, prolonged lockdowns etc- low vaccine uptake is going to increase the likelihood of these measures being needed for longer. Whether or not you choose to be vaccinated, the idea of mass hesitancy/refusal is definitely not something to celebrate.
Dodododahdahdah · 08/02/2021 12:50

I can assure you, if i didn’t see a future of forced vaccination and restrictions I wouldn’t care less if every man and his dog had it- except my family, whom most, are thankfully not.

You chose to be locked down not me! You, the people, practically begged your government to lock you all down and continue to lock you up.

Boris Johnson wanted to go with herd immunity at first but the nation weren’t ballsy enough to back him. I was! So don’t come at me with any nonsense about lockdowns.

PurpleRainDancer · 08/02/2021 12:54

Don’t be so bloody naive and ridiculous OP.

Nobody is forcing you. If your choices ultimately prevent you from being able to participate in certain activities, it's still your choice. The more people around who are vaccinated, the less likely it is that the non-vaccinated will need to be subjected to any measures such as travel restrictions. So the best plan for antivaxxers really is to STFU about it and stop trying to influence other people.
Newfor2021 · 08/02/2021 13:01

Your post proves just how narrow minded and self absorbed people really are!

You genuinely think most people think the same as you??? FFS Hmm

Ethelfromnumber73 · 08/02/2021 13:02

@Dodododahdahdah
Nobody is enjoying lockdown. And herd immunity- there's this small matter of viral mutation.

DdraigGoch · 08/02/2021 13:06

@Dodododahdahdah

And if you’re too stupid to even realise that most “conspiracy theories “ have legs then you must literally never read!

One of my friends told me about how she new a conspiracy who believed the bill gates microchip thing. I asked her “do you know anything about bill gates, what he does etc? His vision for the future?”
No, she said.
I asked if she was aware that bill gates in on video and has done numerous videos about the future of humans that will have some form of digital recognition system on or in them.
“No, she said”

So bill gates and microchips is not a conspiracy theory!! Whether bill gates would sneak them into a vaccine without consent is a conspiracy theory.

But most people are too stupid to look for the legs of a story.

Bionic implants have filled science fiction for years. It's hardly an unheard of idea. Frankly if microchips could track you, I'd never need worry about the cat.

Incidentally the needle being used for the covid vaccines is far smaller than that used to microchip pets. You'd need a nanochip to fit in there.

CakeRequired · 08/02/2021 13:10

If enough people don't get the vaccine though, not much will change because covid will just keep spreading. We will get high cases again, people will keep dying (it just won't be as many elderly, but younger people do die too), and lockdowns will keep happening.

Weigh it up all you want, but accept that's a likelihood too, you can't have both. You won't get to continue on with life as you knew it for longer. We need the herd immunity.

sweetkitty · 08/02/2021 13:12

I’m being vaccinated tomorrow I teach children with severe and complex needs if all our staff are vaccinated it means our children can come back to school and can get back to some sort of normal routine a lot sooner.

soantediluvian · 08/02/2021 13:18

Yes, I've met a French secondary school teacher who believed that vaccines were being funded by Bill Gates as a way of murdering the world population.

BilboBercow · 08/02/2021 22:58

The most vocal guy I know like this had a serious coke habit for years. Probably cut with all sorts but that's fine, not a "rushed out" vaccine though
