I met one of those "I'm not putting that in my body"

people this week. I didn't think they really existed.

It was at a (virtual) networking thing. Professional people who are in a category where some LAs are vaccinating us and some aren't. Most people in the "room" had already had the vaccination, except this one very vocal woman.

An educated woman, 40ish, in a position of responsibility, working in a sector supporting vulnerable people (hence the access to vaccines). I've met her before and she always seemed very switched on, socially responsible and very capable in her role.

As I said, I thought these people were a bit of an internet myth, but if they did exist, I didn't expect them to be people like this.

Have you met any?
**@southeastdweller we know the side effects of Covid. They are evident. There are no evident side effects of the vaccine

I'm getting quite fed up of this now. There ARE side effects and they are recorded here by the government. There are 49472 reactions recorded and 107 fatal reactions recorded in a little over a month. For one vaccine.

assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/958616/COVID-19_mRNA_Pfizer-_BioNTech_Vaccine_Analysis_Print.pdf

All countries are recording these reactions and fatalities and the collective figures are alarming.

People really now need to stop with the mocking and bullying and suggestions to do some research. Some of us do. I'm sick to death of being called an anti vaxxer or conspiracy theorist.
I'm getting sick of people mis quoting these data too.

These are reports post vaccine. They do not equal cause-effect. In other words it does not mean the vaccine caused these things. The aim is to study trends, see if unusual patterns occur.

The table for example includes 5 cases of pregnancy. Am assuming not my 73 year old mother and I sincerely hope not my 47 year old self.

And it's a zombie thread! On which I seem to have made virtually the same comment as before. Ah well. I still feel strongly about it.

mineofuselessinformation · 19/04/2021 20:45

Yup, and another 'side-effect' recorded is constipation...... Grin
But, hey, people believe what they want to, not necessarily the facts.
I was actually quite unwell after my first dose, but it's supposed to trigger an immune response, so whilst I felt terrible, it was a good thing.
I will be very grateful to get my second dose.

@Tumbleweed101

I'm a watch and wait kind of person. I'd rather make a choice based on more evidence as time goes on. As someone likely to be low on the priority list I have that bit more time to weigh things up. We've already had covid, it was mild for my household so I'm not feeling any great rush to have a brand new vaccine.

However, my mum had hers yesterday. Her choices as an older person with COPD are very different from mine as her likelihood of getting very poorly with covid are much higher and she is fed up of shielding. The potential risk with the vaccine is likely lower than with catching covid.

It isn't unusual for people to want to delay or wait before having something very new injected into them. I'm not against vaccines but I am cautious about new treatments in general. Think it comes down to personal risk assessment and how fearful you are of catching covid. My personal assessment is based on how poorly were with the illness and know we have a bit of immunity right now.

I’m exactly where you are

@southeastdweller

Narcolepsy has, according to the WHO, been linked to the flu vaccine, in some countries.

Are some people here not bothered about potential long term side effects? Is ‘duty’ more important to you?

Yes. Duty is more important to me which is why I had the vaccine last week despite my fears.
MissTrip82 · 20/04/2021 02:22

Could everyone referring to it as a rushed vaccine just quickly take us through the usual steps for registration of a pharmaceutical product?

If you could outline the usual process, perhaps including your comments on the relative merits of the structure of trials, areas of likely bias, perhaps something about how you usually calculate power, and then just run through which steps have been missed for this product I think it would be really
helpful.

Won’t take more than a few minutes given you’re completely on top of the topic.

BunsyGirl · 20/04/2021 03:47

@JamieFrasersAuntie Have you actually looked at the data in the link that you shared? Please explain how the Covid vaccine resulted in someone being electrocuted?!

Suzi888 · 20/04/2021 11:02

@Remmy123

I don't see the issue. Everyone shouid and have every right to choose what goes in thier body , esp with a new vaccine.
^ This Worry about yourself OP not what everyone else is doing Grin

@tilder and @MissTrip82 - finally a bit of critical thinking in evidence about the data the licensing process for drugs 🙌.

She could be pregnant or going through ivf / hormome treatment for all you know and has been advised not to do it.
