I am beyond broken if this means we can't get to any kind of normality.

COVAX has vaccines on order, and is optimistic it will secure its initial target 1billion doses

But if course it needs so much more.

And if the virus continues to spread essentially unchecked elsewhere in the world, then we will not be able to lift international restrictions and most holidays be be out. Because reintroducing a vaccine resistant new strain would be out. Once low level globally, that becomes a much more tolerable level of risk.

And of course it's morally wrong to leave the poorest to have their economies and societies wrecked

what good is money if the west has bought up almost all available vaccine for 2021?
Covax is targeting 2bn doses, some facilities are making these e.g. Serum Institute of India for Astrazeneca. Dual track is much better. What people can do to help is donate, and demand additional facilities be set up to speed up the programme. Not taking your own vaccine when offered simply causes potential issues for vulnerable in this country.

Spare vaccine should go to countries that have the means to administer it and for those that don't, we have to help them with that too

It is the west that needs this vaccine more than some other parts of the world. We will be donating spare vaccines but at the moment we haven’t vaccinated our population yet. We are though sending help and some vaccines to other countries already
