I am beyond broken if this means we can't get to any kind of normality.

Yes I agree. The virus will mutate unless nations pull together. Where we need competent leaders

Kettledodger · 31/01/2021 19:45

@wafflyversatile

"No I don't get too upset by it all. I refuse to have guilt piled on me through no fault of my own. If you choose to fine but don't berate anyone else who does not"

Lucky you're a have, not a have not then. I didnt ask if you get upset. Do you think it is right?

I wouldn't say I was a complete have than a have not. We are a household that has disability and mental health issues. Living day to day on benefits with no real way to get out of the situation. Yes I have clean water, a roof over our heads food in our stomachs. But we are not living the high life by any means
CuriousaboutSamphire · 31/01/2021 19:48

Dingdong where are you?

This discussion is being had, often far less politely, all over the place!

BelleHathor · 31/01/2021 19:49

@Puzzledandpissedoff

And when you are done there is America.......

I swear I'm going to climb through this screen and trash your laptop/phone/whatever the hell you're using!!!!! Grin Grin Angry

😅😆😅 Sheepishly stepping away from the keyboard. It's good to share 😊 Enjoy your 🍷
Puzzledandpissedoff · 31/01/2021 19:54

@Fembot123 it was about the deeply cruel BelleHathor who kept on and ON posting links about how the Chinese regime's infiltrating just about everything, even though I begged her to stop - and doing my blood pressure no good at all in the process Grin

The links are all still there if you scroll back a bit (and if you can stand it ...)

Nads99 · 31/01/2021 19:55

Same as @IrishMamaMia - the WHO knew about this in December and did NOTHING. Sat on its hands. We are doing a brilliant job to develop and roll out vaccine and now we are the bad guys. Disgusting!! Also when this kicked off Germany purchased loads of tests. We were behind the curve and without tests. I didn’t see them shipping it over to us!!! Usual, see UK doing well, and want a piece of our pie. We are doing poorly and shame us, with no help!

Fembot123 · 31/01/2021 19:56

Ahh 😂 No I really don’t think I’m able for it and it would probably lead to me grabbing your hand and smashing through Belles screen with you to wreak havoc.

God, are you still here??!!! Though happily without a link this time

Only joking ... honest Wink

Idontcareboutthestateofmyhair · 31/01/2021 19:59

I agree, I want my vaccine and I'm not going back to normal until I get it. As a 48 year old I feel we will be at the most vulnerable as all the 'oldies' get their vaccine. Hospital is now full of people in their 40s. We all need to get our vaccine before we can get back to 'normal' otherwise unvaccinated will be more at risk. This disease just wants to kill.. we can't leave all our young in a vulnerable position.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 31/01/2021 20:01

The WHO knew about this in December and did NOTHING. Sat on its hands

So did China, conveniently (?) stopping flights and closing down Wuhan just at the point when many had already travelled for Chinese New Year

Odd, huh? Hmm

PeterWeg · 31/01/2021 20:03

UK and AstraZeneca have setup the capacity to produce 2.5 billion doses per year. The production capacity is all over the world and it will supply the local population. I think we have done enough.

Eradicating it completely (with quick mass vaccination) in whole countries will be better for the whole population as there will be less variants.. Half vaccinating a country is a mistake.

Wherediditgo · 31/01/2021 20:06

Hospital is now full of people in their 40s

Is it actually though?

clarcats · 31/01/2021 20:20

@Bythemillpond

Shelovesamystery Whilst you might not think you need the vaccine you really can’t be sure how if you caught this virus your body would react. I saw a picture of a slim young woman with no health issues who had died from this disease. You can’t be certain how this disease will go. One of the people I know thought like you that he didn’t need the vaccine as he was youngish fit and heathy. Within a short time of being tested positive he was dead. Still trying to come to terms with this.
to be fair, the youngish fit and healthy person is unlikely to die within a short time of testing positive for Covid- it's when the symptoms turn to pneumonia that it because more of a risk (of death) and that takes more than what i'd consider 'a short time'. I think you'll find that there was more to it than it seems. Same with 'seeing a picture of a slim young person' etc, I guess you probably saw that somewhere in the media and the media aren't exactly portraying an accurate picture of things! Also, flu is more of an issue to the general population than Covid is, Covid mostly affects the elderly or those with one or more SERIOUS health conditions, flu can kill people who are much younger and not sick, and is more of a risk to children under 5 than Covid.
LetItGoGo · 31/01/2021 20:23

I personally don't get Dr Harris's logic in suggesting stopping a fast moving program in a country currently very hard hit by covid with plenty of mutation possible, where the population is showing itself vulnerable in world terms.

We are being asked to stop our program at a point where (having only the most vulnerable groups done) it is expected vaccine production worldwide will be very much higher. To transport this vaccine to countries where it is being manufactured closer by.

MidSummersNightmare · 31/01/2021 20:27

How are we going to ensure that is actually given to vulnerable people in other countries? Vulnerable people may not be the first priority elsewhere.

Yes exactly didn’t China scoff at the idea of giving the vaccine to elderly and vulnerable first deciding to focus on the working population.

LetItGoGo · 31/01/2021 20:28

Yes we are very silly apparently.

jenkel · 31/01/2021 20:29

No way, bar a few we have the highest death rate in the world, plus we have invested heavily in the covax programme and we are to trust some governments from developing countries to vaccinate sensibly.

Bluesername · 31/01/2021 20:44

Why does not thinking the WHO has behaved perfectly attract 'is that you, Donald?' remarks?

Dongdingdong · 31/01/2021 20:51

This discussion is being had, often far less politely, all over the place!

@CuriousaboutSamphire I’m in London and from what I’ve seen on Facebook, everyone is just looking forward to getting themselves and their families vaccinated as soon as possible.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 31/01/2021 20:53

Oh! Yes, those conversations too Dingdong

I may just have some obnoxious NHS working mates 😁

Lilemmi · 31/01/2021 21:03

My husband is extremely vulnerable and will be getting his vaccine within the next month, however due to the nature of his medical condition, the vaccine will almost certainly not work on him. People like him need more people to be vaccinated to prevent the spread. If they were to stop vaccinating after the vulnerable they essentially condemn people like him as he has no defence. Ill not get offered mine until summer in all likelihood so nothing will change for us for a good long while, confined to the house with 2 small children who will both still have to attend school when they reopen. It is a constant unending worry.

Nanalisa60 · 31/01/2021 21:20

I think we need to vaccinate all our own people as soon as we can then all our excess vaccine should go to Africa!! As someone pointed out earlier did not see other country’s send us test when we did not have any. The only reason the EU are up in arms is that the French made them order loads of there vaccine that has now been abandoned. Also every week more and more new vaccines are being made available , so as I said an extra we have should be going to Africa.

Annabell80 · 31/01/2021 21:32

I don't know if hospitals are full of young people but that's what medical staff were saying on the news last week.
People in their 20s and 30s were critically ill with no other health conditions. Yet for some reason we should stop vaccinating?
Do the people in favour of this actually want lockdown to end? Do you want more children to be left without parents? This is the country these things are more likely to happen because we have the highest death rate.
By all means send vaccines abroad but after everyone here has had it.

MaxNormal · 31/01/2021 21:35

People in their 20s and 30s were critically ill with no other health conditions

Any evidence for this assertion?

Pastanred · 31/01/2021 21:40

There are 5000 critical care beds in whole of uk
Only 1/4 are occupied by under 60 so it’s likely 1250 are under 60 but that inc those with underlying conditions

Rule out those already seriously ill with other conditions, the vulnerable, those closer to 60 etc - hospitals are not really full of 20/30 yr olds

My local hospital advertises that icu is full /at breaking point but on close inspection there’s only 6 icu beds so doesn't take much really
