Some of those threads are unintentionally primed to nudge vulnerable people over the edge. I've just flounced from a thread - I won't be a part of it anymore. I'm clearly not saving anyone from their doomsday scenarios so the least I can do is not comment and bump the thread. I'm definitely, definitely done with the rest of the board now, well this and the vaccination thread.

FourTeaFallOut · 31/01/2021 12:11

Apart from this and the vaccination thread. I'm not flouncing from here Grin

Pomegranatespompom · 31/01/2021 12:13

@FourTeaFallOut it’s bizarre. I just read something about long term restrictions- have to keep reminding myself these posters don’t actually know anything !

FourTeaFallOut · 31/01/2021 12:16

It's really affected.

FourTeaFallOut · 31/01/2021 12:21

It's like for some people, dying is so far removed from their everyday reality that worrying about catching an illness is their worst case. As someone who is cev, not dying is the springboard from which other options become available. A vaccine that brings huge protection from dying is the silver bullet.

FourTeaFallOut · 31/01/2021 12:24

I don't know, aybe I'm ranting now? Maybe it contagious. This is not the immunise boosting mediation drive I was hoping for a day prior to my jab Grin

HopelessBlue192 · 31/01/2021 12:34

I just wanted to add my thanks for whoever first posted that NHS booking link - I sent it to my MIL (who is very much by the book so would have waited for the letter I think), and when my FIL went in for his jab this morning, he asked about her booking through the link. They asked if she was waiting in the car, which she was, and then told him to get her in so she's had her jab this morning!!

It's so brilliant - my DH hasn't seen them properly since last March, they have missed our DS growing from 1.5 years old to about 2.5 years old, so the though that they will be able to come soon, is just so exciting!!

feelingverylazytoday · 31/01/2021 12:42

It would seem things are finally settling down in hospitals www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-55877514
A big shout out to any hospital staff on this thread, hope things are starting to improve.

Florelei · 31/01/2021 12:45

This is a wonderful place of sanity for me. I find myself drawn to some of the other threads and end up convinced that the world is ending!

Thefamousfivegetcovid · 31/01/2021 12:52

@Endlesslymumming

Can I hide here for a bit? I went ‘out there’ to post what I genuinely felt was helpful advice and really good news about unpaid carers / parent carers now being in group 6 (it is good news, right? It certainly is for our household)! It appears most people are worried about the queue jumping this could inspire. There was a genuine argument with the definition of ‘Carer’, or their need to be prioritised which I just felt wasn’t ok. I already felt guilty enough about putting myself forward, but my son had autism and needs me for care. (And there I go, justifying myself again)... I will stay away from the main boards I think!
Honestly, there are some really aggressive angry people out there. Try not to let it get to you. It is excellent news if we can get carers done in group 6 - really a lot of carers have had such a raw deal of it and have sacrificed a lot over the last year. I'd be thrilled to know carers are getting done in large numbers. There is so much anger about queue jumping but it's unnecessary given the speed we are getting vulnerable people done really. I'd far rather the vaccines were all used than ditched in a bin. I'm driving my dad to have his vaccine soon and honestly, if they turned around and said 'we have a spare dose, do you want one,' I'll bite their hands off and not worry a bit. People love to have a go.
InterfectoremVulpes · 31/01/2021 12:52

@FourTeaFallOut

Effective is used in lots of different ways at the moment. 50% less effective at reducing what? Transmission/ contraction/ reducing hospitalisation or death?

The j&j vaccine, which was trialled in South Africa, has said that their vaccine is 100% effective in protecting against hospitalisations and death. So long as the others follow suit that seems like a good start.

Blimey, does it make you immortal? ShockGrin
FourTeaFallOut · 31/01/2021 12:57

Can you imagine if it did? GrinThat would be a cascade of unintended consequences!

InterfectoremVulpes · 31/01/2021 12:57

There is so much anger about queue jumping but it's unnecessary given the speed we are getting vulnerable people done really.

Some people have their own made up priority list in their head so anyone getting the vaccine who isn't on that list is branded a 'queue jumper' (NHS admin for example).

They are likely the same people who made up their own lockdown rules and branded anyone sitting on a park bench a 'granny murdering covid spreader' too.

feelingverylazytoday · 31/01/2021 13:13

Evidence is mounting that pregnant women pass covid-19 antibodies to their babies in utero www.nytimes.com/2021/01/29/well/family/covid-antibodies-pregnant-newborn.html
This is fantastic news.

Pomegranatespompom · 31/01/2021 13:17

Sorry if I set you off @FourTeaFallOut 😳 I felt so miserable seeing the other threads. Lots of luck for your jab !

FourTeaFallOut · 31/01/2021 13:24

Oh no, please don't worry. It seems I'm on a hair trigger at the moment, that's for me to sort out. Smile

I sometimes think it’s like the rest of MN aren’t aware that we have a vaccine Confused
Anyway - checking in. My mom had her jab today.

Sebw · 31/01/2021 14:04

Almost 550000 jabs in England yesterday Grin

chri55ie · 31/01/2021 14:05

Will be 600,000 for U.K incredible!

chri55ie · 31/01/2021 14:06

I thought yesterday was going to be high but not that high!

TheChineseChicken · 31/01/2021 14:09

Gosh, that’s crazy!

FuzzyPuffling · 31/01/2021 14:14

Nothing to add to anything but cheering you all on from the sidelines! Fourtea I hope you're eating lots of vegetables today (immune system boost) and that tomorrow goes well.

louisejxxx · 31/01/2021 14:21

Wow 550000 in England alone?! My 10 mil by Wednesday afternoon will end up being an overestimate!!

Thefamousfivegetcovid · 31/01/2021 14:44

That's insanely high!! Amazing.

starfish88 · 31/01/2021 14:45

Ugh, just heard from someone IRL that we will need boosters every 6 months. I very much doubt it as everything I have read suggests natural immunity lasts that long and vaccines tend to last longer but does anyone have any actual science to back that up?
