Vaccine link thread?

Directionerforever · 29/01/2021 08:51

I was reading a thread last night that had the link to book vaccines if you were in the right category. I can’t find it now this morning, was there a problem with it? I wanted to book in laws (70’s) this morning but I don’t want to if there is an issue. They’d probably rather catch Covid than go to an ill gotten appointment.

I was just looking for this too....I thought I'd saved it

joyam · 29/01/2021 09:07

I'm worrying about this now too, it was the NHS website though and you can't book unless eligible so I don't see there would be an issue?

Directionerforever · 29/01/2021 09:07

Glad it’s not just me, I thought I was losing my mind!! I have the link but don’t want to share it again in case there is a problem with it. If the OP - or anyone who was on the thread knows what the craic is I’d be grateful!

We’ve just been told in our area that we’ll be called by surgery staff who will book an appointment for us.

InterfectoremVulpes · 29/01/2021 09:11

The problem was people who were too stupid to understand that this is the link to allow eligible people to book their vaccine and not to jump the queue.

If you are not eligible you won't be able book.

Whichnamepls · 29/01/2021 09:13

There isn't an issue with the link - just the people who reported it.

MissClarke86 · 29/01/2021 09:13

It says on the link “You can use this service if you have received a letter inviting you to book your appointment.”

InterfectoremVulpes · 29/01/2021 09:16

You don't have to have the actual letter to book - lots of people are waiting for letters that have been held up in the post (and are being delayed in getting the vaccine they are eligible for).

If your letter has been generated then you can book.

thecapitalsunited · 29/01/2021 09:16

The website is easy to find through the main NHS website. Click the link at the top of the page for coronavirus information and at the top of the page there are two links: one for booking a test and one for booking a vaccine. It does say that the link is only for people who have been invited but it won’t let you book unless you are eligible. If they didn’t want it to be easily found it wouldn’t be on the main coronavirus page.

Whichnamepls · 29/01/2021 09:18

It will ONLY WORK if your letter has already been generated. If not, it will say you are not eligible.

In the case of my family it allowed my dad 82 to get his and my mum 77 to get hers. Their letters turned up 2 weeks later ish. The link just got them through the door a little faster.

joyam · 29/01/2021 09:21

Yes my ecv husband booked his early this week (his GP gave him the link to do it before anyone clutches their pearls)......today his letter arrived, with the exact same link on it.

It baffles me that people would begrudge ELIGIBLE people getting their vaccine that much.

Directionerforever · 29/01/2021 09:27

Am I to assume that if you book through this (if eligible) but you haven’t yet received your letter you won’t be asked to produce the letter at the centre?

Bagelsandbrie · 29/01/2021 09:32

I booked via the link last night. I’m in the clinically extremely vulnerable group - I’m 40 years old. You don’t have to have had a letter. When you book you get sent a text and an email with booking references to take with you.

Bagelsandbrie · 29/01/2021 09:32

Exactly this.
joyam · 29/01/2021 09:33

You just need your booking reference and a mask.

lurker101 · 29/01/2021 09:35

@Directionerforever my parents (in NI) were just asked for appointment confirmation (received after booking) and photo ID plus healthcare number if they had it handy (not a requirement, as vaccine centre staff can get it manually)

Understand it may be different in England, but mainly just posting to bump this in active threads so more eligible people can book appointments. Hate sour grapes.

Whichnamepls · 29/01/2021 09:52

You won't be asked to produce the letter. Just your booking ref which you get via the link.

Mindymomo · 29/01/2021 09:53

A lot of people are not getting their post regularly due to staff shortages, so it doesn’t hurt to try and see if you can book through NHS website. I’ve tried for my husband who has been shielding after a heart bypass, but it just tells you you aren’t eligible yet.

HelloViroids · 29/01/2021 10:51

Just to echo what others have said, the link will only let you book if you are eligible - you have to enter your NHS number and DOB, so it won’t work unless the system has you marked as being in the appropriate category. But as others have noted, there could be a big delay between letter being generated and it hitting your doormat, so if this efficiency is open to you then use it to speed things up. I’ve been checking everyday for a relative, and it has said not applicable -today for the first time it allowed me to progress and have booked for her first dose tomorrow!

Directionerforever · 29/01/2021 10:52

Fab, thanks all. I just know that MIL will be resistant because she doesn’t have her letter yet and it’ll be an uphill struggle to convince her to use this link. Last thing I want to do is get it wrong. She’d die of shame. Yet she won’t do anything at all ‘until I’ve got the vaccine’ she’s been suffering abdominal pain since Christmas and we’re all so worried about her but she won’t go to the GP until she’s got the vaccine.

The fact that she’d have to go to the GP probably to get the vaccine so she might as well see them about this pain is logic she won’t accept.

I used it to book my grandma and I've been worrying that she'll get turned away now the thread has been pulled. She's going next Friday. She's 74.

Please tell me it'll be okay.

It wouldn't let her book if she wasn't eligible. I have been trying all week and have only today been able to access the booking page. A letter must be on its way to me.
BlowDryRat · 29/01/2021 11:24

I was able to book an appointment for Sunday. The link is fine. It's not letting anyone jump the queue because it won't let you book if you're not eligible yet.

MonicaGellerBing · 29/01/2021 11:24

I don't understand why people are being so thick over this. It's the NHS booking link. IT WILL NOT LET YOU BOOK IF YOU ARE NOT ELIGIBLE. If you manage to get through to book an appointment then it means it is your turn to book and it is all correct and above board.
