I'd like to derail the thread for a very short while with a question
Let me know if you want it deleted.
I don't want a thread for it, but I'm curious on what others think. Specifically ppl here who are not overly dramatic :)
Wwyd in this situation
I have crohn's. It's proven that it is partially genetic predisposition and partially outside factors triggering it. Also proven that boys are much more likely to inherit this gene*, especially if mum has it, not dad. And if it's triggered they tend to be hospitalized with it more.
So let me ask you this: what would you do/think:
- nothing to see here, let son (15) go to school, whatever
- let's protect him as much as possible when he already has about 75% chance of developing a life long condition (can vary from mild/almost normal living to needing a feeding tube and stoma bag at all times)?
The GP admitted that apart from hearing about crohn's she has never had a patient with this condition in 10 years, has no idea and I should consult some specialist. But referrals are halted until april, so just wait.
She also confirmed that I am in the lowest group as they didn't add this autoimmune condition to the cv list. Best to her knowledge.
I've had a chat with a friend who said I'm totally stupid to keep him home and I'm being paranoid. But our family view is that if he already has a high chance let's not add to it with something that we know nothing about. And no specific research has been conducted so far that I could find.
In EU they have approved vacc from 16, so there is a potential to get him vaccinated this year nov maybe.
*I wish there was a genome test like for some cancers, but there is none.
