@ancientgran I agree with you, your phone call is not what the general public would be classifying as a contact, but I would probably take her up on her offer and contact her and try to get a firm answer on what conditions need to be met before they will send the vaccine team in/when they expect that to be, if only to give staff/families/residents assurance that they haven’t been forgotten about

Firefliess · 01/02/2021 11:25
@lurker101 Thanks, I will mention it to our manager.

We don't have an outbreak, we have had two but all clear now as proved by tests. I suppose it depends what you mean by "offered." We had a phone call to say, "We don't know when we will be with you but we will let you know." If that an offer? Clearly they know we exist, they know we are entitled, they know our results. So does that phone call count as an offer?
I think that's shocking. Contacting you to not even set a date when they'll be vaccinating your care home is absolutely not the same as giving you the vaccine, or even the same as offering it! I'd take her up on the offer of a personal email to her, or get your manager to do so.

Applesandpears23 · 01/02/2021 11:27

Have you considered contacting a journalist?

ancientgran · 01/02/2021 11:37

Thank you for confirming I'm not mad to think the call doesn't count as an offer. I will leave it to the owner or manager to do what they think is right.

I hate the fact they think we are stupid and will just swallow their lies and I feel I've done my bit because I have let people know.

ancientgran · 01/02/2021 11:40

Our residents were so excited when they were told they were top of the list in December, we hadn't had a single resident with covid then, we've had two outbreaks since, well I think they were linked but there was a week in the middle where it was all clear then cases again the next week so I think someone was probably positive but too early to show on the test.

MRex · 01/02/2021 11:59

@ancientgran - If you've had two outbreaks since Christmas then it depends how long they want you to be clear of infection before setting up the jabs, is it 10 days since last infection or longer. Have you asked the owner/ manager what information they have, as possibly they know something more about the expected delay?

ancientgran · 01/02/2021 12:26

Hi MRex, we had two outbreaks in December not two since Christmas.

I'm going to have a news blackout, it is doing my blood pressure no good so I think I'm going to turn the computer off and if I want to watch tv it will have to be Netflix.

I'll be back to update when we get a date.

A bit worrying.

*Tests for South African variant in Surrey
Door-to-door testing for the South African variant of coronavirus is to start in Surrey after cases were found with no known links with travel or previous cases.

So far, cases of the variant in the UK had been traced back to South Africa – but experts say two people in Woking found with the variant have no such known links.

Local council workers will go house-to-house to offer swab tests for 9,500 people in the Goldsworth Park and St Johns areas of Woking, Surrey, from this afternoon - with house checks also planned for nearby Egham later in the week.

Surrey’s Local Resilience Forum urged people in the affected areas to "remain calm" and continue to follow the rules on lockdown and self-isolation.

It's understood surge testing will also be carried out in the other parts of England with cases of the variant.

Similar cases were discovered in Ealing and Haringey in London, Walsall in the West Midlands, Broxbourne in Hertfordshire, and Kent, BBC Radio Surrey understands.*

ATieLikeRichardGere · 01/02/2021 12:56

Oh no that’s not good news, though I feel I’ve been waiting for it.

boys3 · 01/02/2021 13:03

A quick pillar split between PCR and LF tests.

First percentage of pillar 2 tests that are LF tests, for the 7 days to 15th, 22nd and 29th January spec dates

England 38 / 48 / 59

London 36 / 46 / 55

East mids 36 / 47 / 59

East 32 / 45 / 58

North East 34 / 45 / 60

North West 44 / 51 / 61

South East 40 / 51 / 62
With Kent almost 75% in most recent week

South West 36 / 48 / 60

West Mids 38 / 48 / 59

Yorks Humber 34 / 45 / 57

Then in terms positivity rates for pillar 2 to 29 Jan split by all tests / PCR / LF

England 4.5 / 10.3 / 0.5

London 7.2 / 14.8 / 1.0

East mids 4.7 / 10.8 / 0.4

East 4.5 / 10.0 / 0.5

oneglassandpuzzled could you please tell me where that information is from? I'm a lurker on these threads but usually feel insufficiently informed to comment. However, this bit of information is too (physically) close to home.

I was hospitalised before Christmas with Covid and am lucky to have survived. Family members living here were also hit, some harder than others. We have been careful and I had very rarely been out, so have little idea as to where/how I caught it. I wonder if there is any way of telling which variant we had. If not the South African variant, my stress levels are going to be going up pretty sharpish!

oneglassandpuzzled · 01/02/2021 13:11

Sorry to hear that. It’s on the BBC website and BBC r4 right now.

JanuaryChill · 01/02/2021 13:12

It's not good news but I managed to calm the rising panic I felt when I thought of the times I'd read of this kind of thing happening in other countries for various outbreaks. When it's 'there', I'd think, how sensible, wish we did things like that!

oneglassandpuzzled · 01/02/2021 13:15

South Africa coronavirus variant: Door-to-door testing 'begins' www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-55889391

JanuaryChill · 01/02/2021 13:15

@boys3 wow. Should we be concerned that the increasing use of LFDs are skewing info on infection rates, ie essential data.

SimplyGrateful · 01/02/2021 13:19

Thank you - I should have googled as it seems to be everywhere Blush.

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 01/02/2021 13:30

They are waiting at least 28 days after a covid outbreak to vaccinate care homes

So it depends when in December the cases occurred.

littlestpogo · 01/02/2021 13:44

The Ealing case of S African variant is from December it appears ( which I guess makes sense as genome testing takes time).

MRex · 01/02/2021 13:47

Anecdata, I know quite a few South Africans living in Surrey because the train routes are useful. So it doesn't surprise me that is the first area with an issue.

littlestpogo · 01/02/2021 13:50

It appears there are a number of areas it’s popped up - all of which now subject to door to door testing

tootyfruitypickle · 01/02/2021 13:52

Has anyone seen which bits of Surrey. It's my county, although my area is low rates so hopefully I won't be getting a visit !

tootyfruitypickle · 01/02/2021 13:53

Oh sorry totally missed this on the thread ignore me!

SimplyGrateful · 01/02/2021 13:54

I wonder if they were routinely doing the genome testing on those in hospital in December. I was swabbed 4 times in the 10 days I was in. Once on admission (although I had just received a positive result from a previous test that morning) and then three others, quite close together, two or three days before I came home. One of those tests was a swab test. I couldn't understand why they were swabbing me as I had been told that the result would't effect when I could go home. I didn't get the results to any of these tests.

SimplyGrateful · 01/02/2021 13:55

tootyfruitypickle I understand it's St Johns and Goldsworth Park

tootyfruitypickle · 01/02/2021 13:59

I'm actually only reading this thread for news along with the R4 PM prog now and Newscast podcast. I just made the mistake of checking the headlines and saw that . Concerned also that it will delay schools going back in Surrey which I was optimistic about as the rates were declining so fast .
