How can we show our dissent?

Feeling so desperate after the announcement today that essentially has us all in this level of lockdown for another 6 weeks weeks at least.

Rates of infection on a steady decline and already so many vaccinated. I wholly disagree with it continuing at the is level. What can I do about it?

Absolutely nothing. Next.....

Northernsoullover · 27/01/2021 14:52

Confused what did you have in mind? Do you think they are keeping us locked up for shits and giggles?

Iremembertheelderlykoreanlady · 27/01/2021 14:52

You can take a breath, have a quiet word, and slowly come to the realisation that this is not all about you

Hth

TorringtonDean · 27/01/2021 14:52

I wholly disagree with people spreading a deadly virus around.

Borogroves · 27/01/2021 14:55

You're happy for thousands more to die and the NHS to collapse then?

waltzingparrot · 27/01/2021 14:55

Numbers may be declining but they are still high. You need numbers low and many more vaccinated before you start opening up or we will just be back at crisis point again.

PhilCornwall1 · 27/01/2021 14:55

Easy:

  1. Nothing. Carry on as you are.
  1. Ignore the restrictions as much as you can. You can't go for meals and to the pub, but if friends and family are willing to see you, you can do that.

The choice is yours really.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 27/01/2021 14:55

I hate lockdowns but I'd I'd rather just do it now so we can have some semblance of normal life for summer rather than open everything too soon.

Fizzybottle · 27/01/2021 14:55

Out of interest what were you thinking of doing? Sitting outside your local with a can of pre mixed mojito in protest that it's shut ?

WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants · 27/01/2021 14:55

How about you look at how many people are IN hospital, how many people are still being admitted to hospital. How full the morgues are, his long it takes to get a funeral slot...

How utterly fucking exhausted and traumatised NHS staff are

Then stop your bloody whinging.

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 27/01/2021 14:56

I wholly disagree with it continuing at the is level.

Haha, oh noes. Get out without a mask and organise a rally or something, pay your £10,000 as often as you can afford it.

DoesTheSizeMatter · 27/01/2021 14:56

My uncle is in a hospice dying of covid as we speak. A wholly preventable death.

It’s depressing that people still think the government are taking away their liberties for no good reason. Shame on you.

SophieB100 · 27/01/2021 14:57

You could start a thread on mumsnet and have a moan about how awful it all is, then just get on with it like the rest of us.

FOJN · 27/01/2021 14:57

You can write to your MP and encourage the people you know, who share your point of view, to do the same. I believe that at the moment there is still strong support for lockdown so the government is unlikely to change plans but if no one tells their MP they disagree with lockdown then they won't know what their constituents think.

Protest marches can be useful but they seem to attract too many hell bent on violence and destruction. It's at the point when people start smashing things up and starting fires I lose all sympathy.

trevthecat · 27/01/2021 14:58

Seriously? Can you not see the numbers in hospitals? Or the 100,000 death rate?

OwlWearingGlasses · 27/01/2021 14:58

Why would you want to? It's not easy but the alternative is for so many more to die.
If we stop lockdown now the rates will just shoot straight back up again. They haven't come down far enough yet.

FOJN · 27/01/2021 14:59

FWIW I disagree with you.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 27/01/2021 15:00

You can write to your local paper or your mp, stick a sign up in your window, post on Facebook... speech is still free.
Fwiw I disagree with you but there is nothing to stop you expressing your views.

Lightningrain · 27/01/2021 15:01

Some people have no empathy and no regard for how their own actions impact upon others.

I take it you haven’t been personally impacted and as a result feel your needs trump everybody else’s?

The sooner everyone pulls together the sooner we can all start to get some semblance of normality back.

DareIask · 27/01/2021 15:01

If there was a choice I think someone just might have suggested it by now.

Do like the rest of us. Just get on with it.

Downtown36 · 27/01/2021 15:02

Yes. Think this is probably what I will do.

The figures are heartbreaking. Each death counts. But, it’s not just black or white - I don’t have to agree that we need this level of lockdown. I didn’t say I thought all restrictions should be removed overnight.

Moan some more on social media and MN OP?

Beaniecats · 27/01/2021 15:06

I agree OP
We must do something

Thunderpunt · 27/01/2021 15:06

You might find a more sympathetic ear over on another thread in Coronavirus- not sure how to link it, but it's Thread 2 - how long do people have to make these sacrifices.
I suspect all you will get on here is - shame on you for even voicing such an opinion Wink

katmarie · 27/01/2021 15:06

Op all the usual protest options are available to you. You can write to your local paper, or a national paper. Start a campaign on social media, launch a petition, write to your mp, stand as an mp yourself, start your own political party, glue yourself to a tube train xtinction rebellion style, or camp in Westminster Square if you wish. (Obviously some of these might get you arrested at the moment). The wonderful thing about this country is as much as I utterly disagree with your opinion(and I really really do disagree with you), I can still support your right to protest if you feel that strongly about it. I suspect it will be a small protest, but by all means, have at it.
