Covid

My family have all had the vaccine and are now hanging out

My parents both have had the vaccine and my two sisters and their husbands as they are all nhs workers.

I prob won't get it for a long time as I am not in any of the groups.

Now they are all hanging out, talking about how they are going to celebrate my nephews birthday etc and I feel really left out.

Is this how it's going to be from now on?

@TheKeatingFive

How long did you want them to wait for? Til you’re vaxxed? Everyone? That could be months and months.

If you’re not in the groups it’s because you’re low risk and if I’m perfectly honest, if I were you I’d be tempted to join them.

This is such an irresponsible, selfish attitude.

They need to wait until the medical guidance changes.

I see some people might.but many wont because they themselves are no longer at risk. some.older people will be more careful.as there is no.guarantee the vax will work.and covid levels are very high. But say 40 yo or so.especially like in op.post where they have had it.mildly. so and young nhs or care home staff will be back eating out and seeing friends. imo.that is why some of the younger especially wfh nhs staff want it. So.they can go out and go abroad etc

They could still be fined, so I think they should watch it!

@Igglepigglesgrubbyblanket they may catch it from each other, spread it to each other and to other people! It doesn't make them immune!

Have thought this about foreign holidays too. Chances are they won't happen. But what if they do but you have to have been vaccinated before you go?

If people don’t realise that this is what’s going to happen they’re very naive.

Lockdown isn’t a pause button, it’s time we won’t get back. I’m seeing my older parents as soon as they have the vaccine. Who knows how much time I have left with them?

You would think NHS workers would know better. Having said that, I know a couple who work for the NHS (frontline but not covid facing) and they have been partying since the start. Needless to say they did catch covid, but we're only mildly affected. The vaccine will just give them the justification to continue.

I think we absolutely are heading for a two tier society, when some can and some can't.

It really bothers me that some people are getting the vaccination just by virtue of being in the right place at the right time or knowing the right people at the end of a day. It doesn't matter in a world where everyone will get it eventually, I suppose, but does mean large sections of the population will feel "free" before the rest. And it doesn't matter how many times you say they should all still follow the rules, large numbers won't, once they feel there is no risk to themselves.

Your family members who work in the nhs should be ashamed of themselves. No wonder you are annoyed!

Did they not read the information they were given about continuing to stick to the rules? Are they a bit dim?

I thought if a person gets jab, they get another after 21 days and then it a further 21 days before it considered vaccinated. So about 6 weeks from first jab to b considered immune if it works for everyone. If some of family nhs completely irresponsible of them.

How many times have we been told on MN to assess our own risk? It's bonkers because of the way it puts others at risk but it's a very commonly held view and what these people are doing

Unless you’re extremely vulnerable, in which case you might wait until you get yours, I would join them. I don’t have a problem with this, I’m in a support bubble with over 70 year old parents who haven’t been vaccinated, these people are seeing other people who have been vaccinated, all trusting enough in the vaccine it will offer some protection if they infect each other. Which is what we’ll all be doing if we are ever all vaccinated, surely?

YakkityYakYakYak · 26/01/2021 22:23

I can totally see why people are being less cautious once they’ve had the vaccine, it’s been a year, it’s too much of an ask to expect people to stay away from their family once their risk is so drastically reduced. But I can see it must be frustrating to be the one left out.

I think we’re going to see a lot more of this and could easily end up with a ‘two-tier’ society with the vaccinated rightly feeling they should be able to get back to normal, and the rest of us getting quickly fed up and refusing to follow restrictions either. I think this is why we’re being led to believe the vaccine won’t stop transmission, because if people believe it does then this is what will happen.

Most people aren’t getting them after 21days.

Yes, because obviously the most pressing thing when discussing this fairly serious topic is to nit-pick about someone’s phraseology. Don’t you think that’s a bit silly and pathetic @borntohula?

There is no them and us.

They are still capable of getting and transmitting covid. They just may not be as affected as those who haven’t had the vaccine. What kind of NHS fuckwits are they not to know this?
