My family have all had the vaccine and are now hanging out

My parents both have had the vaccine and my two sisters and their husbands as they are all nhs workers.

I prob won't get it for a long time as I am not in any of the groups.

Now they are all hanging out, talking about how they are going to celebrate my nephews birthday etc and I feel really left out.

Is this how it's going to be from now on?

I agree Againstmachine. Many of the NHS staff I know are taking the view that they're at risk all day at work, what's a bit more risk in their personal life. They don't seem to account for the fact that they're a risk to everyone else.

QueenPawPaws · 27/01/2021 16:46

@SummerBlondey that makes no sense
I'm extremely vulnerable so I've been shielding since March. I'm protecting myself, nobody is protecting me because I don't go out!
And I will still have to shield post vaccine

SummerBlondey · 27/01/2021 16:54

@QueenPawPaws ...... you don't think that closing the whole country down and vaccinating the old and vulnerable before everyone else, is protecting the vulnerable? Most young people do not get ill from Covid, and yet their whole lives as they know them, have ceased to exist - so that the vulnerable are protected.

furonthecoat · 27/01/2021 16:56

@QueenPawPaws

If you're protecting yourself rather than anyone else protecting you then why has the idea of shielding the vulnerable and letting everyone else get on with it repeatedly shut down Hmm

Not to mention all the people who have facilitated you to shield - putting themselves at risk to protect you.

Belladonna12 · 27/01/2021 16:56

@Againstmachine

Ancedotally I work at a Hospital, and when people say NHS workers should know better, when I go the shop or deli in the hospital the worst for getting right behind you and not distancing are NHS staff. And out of people I know going round to family's houses a high percentage of them are NHS staff.

I think there is as many not following rules in NHS staff as in general population.

That's nothing to do with being vaccinated though. They were behaving like that before.
QueenPawPaws · 27/01/2021 17:10

@SummerBlondey I am young! I'm just pointing out that the vulnerable have lost out as much, if not more
I have been inside for nearly a year now, I can't go to work, can't see my parents, couldn't go out when restrictions relaxed
You must get it's frustrating when I've seen 4 walls for 11 months and people say they are protecting us and a lot of people want us to be grateful

@furonthecoat I get that, but all I have used is my normal food deliveries. I've worked throughout FT

eeyore228 · 28/01/2021 17:47

It doesn’t matter if you’ve had the vaccine you still have to adhere to the same rules. I say this as an NHS worker who has had it. They make it sooooooooooooo very clear that the same rules apply. It’s the first thing I was told. They are being idiotic

ExhaustedFlamingo · 28/01/2021 17:49

What's bothering me a bit is all this talk about people "being vaccinated" - like it's job done but in actual fact they've only had one injection.

I think there's loads of people who aren't going to get the second jab, or it's going to be horribly, horribly delayed - and there's zero proof of what the outcome of that will be.

I've just noticed this recent rhetoric of Boris and co celebrating how many people are vaccinated, which of course is brilliant. But the fact they're missing a second jab for proper protection seems to be quietly not mentioned.

Justa47 · 28/01/2021 17:53

@garlictwist

You could call the cops?

Hedgehog1000 · 28/01/2021 17:58

Igglepigglesgrubbyblanket

Oh how wonderful for them! I can see why you are upset but if they are all vaccinated they won't catch it from each other. I know the rules say not to mix, but tbh I can see why they would ignore once vaccinated. Ahhh! I'm jealous too!

I don’t understand why people believe this. Nobody has claimed the vaccines give you “immunity”. The technology used in them helps reduce symptoms by priming you body into thinking it has seen the vaccine before.. and the aim is to reduce numbers of very ill people. It does not stop you catching the virus or passing on the virus. If you have come across ANY literature that says that there is evidence that it does stop transmission, please do share!! Why are people so ignorant on this topic? It is plastered all over the news.

godmum56 · 28/01/2021 18:00

@DraculasMa

You are still supposed to adhere to the rules even after the vaccine, I think?
they should NOT be doing this and those who work in the NHS should know better
Brockaslass · 28/01/2021 18:10

The vaccine doesn't excempt them from the law. They are still able to transmit it and carry it to others whether they will be affected or not.

deedeegee · 28/01/2021 18:11

Until the booster dose has been given it should be assumed that no protection is conferred, especially as those vaccinated can still transmit it....!

BackBoiler · 28/01/2021 18:15

@exhaustedflamingo don't get me started on the delay of the second dose. I'm fuming over here! Why wait for this and then potentially waste it by not adhering to the pharmaceutical instructions!

PurpleDaisies · 28/01/2021 18:15

They are still able to transmit it and carry it to others whether they will be affected or not.

It does not stop you catching the virus or passing on the virus.

It is not known whether vaccinated people can still transmit covid. There isn’t enough data yet. People shouldn’t state that they can as if it is a fact. It isn’t.

There is some very preliminary data from Israel showing infection and transmission is reduced but it’s far too early to say one way or the other.

DaphneduWarrior · 28/01/2021 18:18

Haven't RTFT, apologies.

  • OP, when did they have the vaccine? Once you've had it, there's a period of time when you're no less likely to get symptoms than someone who hasn't had the vaccine. They were saying two weeks, then three. I know a nurse who got Covid four weeks after she had the vaccine. GP friend tells me he knows a further two cases of four weeks.
  • Yes, you can still pass it on to someone who's unvaccinated. The vaccine doesn't stop you catching Covid or spreading Covid, it only prevents the worst symptoms.

Your family are being dicks.

ExhaustedFlamingo · 28/01/2021 18:18

@BackBoiler absolutely!!!! I cannot understand taking such a cavalier risk and gambling with the outcome when there's a proven drugs trial which was a success.

Someone described them pissing about with the dose regime as a giant, unregulated drugs trial and I can't help agreeing with them.

PurpleDaisies · 28/01/2021 18:21

Yes, you can still pass it on to someone who's unvaccinated. The vaccine doesn't stop you catching Covid or spreading Covid, it only prevents the worst symptoms.

Again, this is not a fact. It is not known yet. People should assume they can still catch and spread covid but there’s not data conclusively one way or the other.

BackBoiler · 28/01/2021 18:22

@exhaustedflamingo I have been pretty calm about everything until this shambles. I have no idea where they have plucked "12 weeks" from as opposed to 3!

Bebethany · 28/01/2021 18:31

It is totally irresponsible and a disgrace especially if some family members are NHS staff, I despair at some people. Is it any wonder the country is in this state!

ExhaustedFlamingo · 28/01/2021 18:38

@BackBoiler - I know!!! They haven't got a clue what the outcome will be.

I'm especially concerned because no-one seems to be mentioning it. All these figures being bandied around about how many we're vaccinating, slaps on the back as we're getting through a good number. No-one mentioning the fact we're not vaccinating properly and many of those who have had the first jab don't know when they're getting their second dose, and won't be properly protected.

This has all the markings of a massive screw-up. We vaccinate, open everything up, and then lots of people get ill again because they're not as immune as we all expected. I have a very bad feeling about this.

BackBoiler · 28/01/2021 18:41

@exhaustedflamingo you took the words out of my mouth. Its almost like they want to fuck up, it ridiculous!

RachandO · 28/01/2021 18:44

They're all NHS workers?? God help those who come into contact with them. Totally irresponsible!

pollymere · 28/01/2021 18:46

Both doses? Hmm. I suspect not. Ignore them. They are rude and ignorant. If you've only had one dose, it's designed to help if/when you get the virus. You need both to prevent getting it. As you've probably got friends who've got pregnant despite the pill/condoms etc, you'll realize they could still get the virus too. Worse still, kids can't get the vaccine and the new variant affects kids badly so they are risking the lives of others too.

cuparfull · 28/01/2021 18:51

@Updatemate

This is completely against the advice.

I'd report the NHS workers to their hospital trust.

This definitely. The NHS workers should know better and its totally against specialist advice to mingle. We all need to bear up just a little bit longer to get the vaccination rates up so the risk of transmission is diminished. Report them. They could be taking the virus into work to vulnerable patients.
