This is a continuation of the previous thread, www.mumsnet.com/Talk/coronavirus/4129412-1-5-million-people-vaccinated-already-brilliant

6,353,321 people in the UK have now received their first dose of the vaccine - that’s 1 in every 8.3 adults. It’s a truly remarkable achievement to have reached so many people in such a short space of time.

Welcome to the new thread and let’s keep the positive vibes going! Grin

@PuzzledObserver looking at the figures for NI their second doses are increasing by around 100-200 per day, they have also announced that 83% of care homes have had second doses administered - so to me those numbers would fit with mainly care homes getting second doses

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 03/02/2021 14:54

@FourTeaFallOut

10 million vaccinated people protected from the worst of this illness. What a fab day!
lurker101 · 03/02/2021 14:55

Just to share more good news - one of the local GP surgery I follow has reported 96% uptake of the vaccine in their 75-79 age bracket! Beyond my expectations

DdraigGoch · 03/02/2021 14:58

@CherryRoulade

Lets remember that this is the number of people part vaccinated....
Evidence is that immunity is good from 22 days and remains so at least until 90 days. Second jab is more effective with a bigger spacing.

That is brilliant! I can't remember where I read it but I'm sure there was an article saying that the Government were hoping for 70% uptake on the vaccine across the board. I'm sure the figures vary a bit from area to area, particularly those with larger ethnic minority communities, though I understand the big push they've made to get across the message in those areas is also starting to have an impact.
pinkunicornwithacatonitsback · 03/02/2021 15:06

The BBC has just confirmed that we've now reached the 10m milestone.

I've been very critical of the government but honestly, they deserve the credit for rolling the vaccinations out so seamlessly. Whether you agree or not with the one-dose strategy (and I personally do), the actual logistics behind the rollout has been fucking amazing.

[quote lurker101]Here’s some more details on the Covishield vaccines (Ox/AZ) produced in India and distributed to Mauritius and Seychelles, Bhutan and others

Good to know which vaccine my family and relatives will be having.

Fellow Mauritian here Smile

OooErrThor · 03/02/2021 15:11

I honestly think in many cases some of the over 70s I know said yes to a vaccination just for a day out!

lovelemoncurd · 03/02/2021 15:14

I think it's great 10 million have had a first dose of their vaccine but I don't think it's fair to compare our figures with Israel where they have administered 2 doses per individual.

Shehz21 · 03/02/2021 15:15

@NiceViper

Can we ignore the part/semi/half vaccine ‘reminders’ now please? They’re boring

To you, maybe. To others an important part of the overall picture

496,796 fully vaccinated.

OH GOD CAN YOU JUST NOT?!

They aren't THAT important in the grand scheme of things especially right now and especially on this thread.

I'm more of a lurker on this thread to help save my sanity but I refuse to let some random poster come try spoil this amazing thread with their BUTs!

Rant over.

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 03/02/2021 15:16

We have some rather hunky young soldiers helping local nurses to give the jabs apparently. Our local 70+ ladies are all over Facebook swooning🙈 Definitely a good day out to them apparently 😂

CaveMum · 03/02/2021 15:17

@Shehz21they're ploppers - they like to come in, "plop" a nugget of their wisdom on the board and then disappear again.

I think as others have said, we have to not engage. They'll get bored if we ignore them.

whenwillthemadnessend · 03/02/2021 15:26

Woopppeeee 10 million. That's just fabulous

And I got accepted to be a vaccine centre volunteer today so bring it on for another 10 mill.

Frazzled2207 · 03/02/2021 15:29

without taking into account 2nd doses, a uk Vaccine tracker says we will have
all 4 top priority groups by 14th feb (a day early)
all 9 priority groups by 29th March
all adult population by 21st May.
Bearing in mid second doses, late August/September sounds very reasonable to me. It does however seem logistically complicated to me dealing with mass second doses at the same time as mass first doses especially when trying to get the same stuff for the second dose. Perhaps areas or individual hubs will just concentrate on either first or second for a particular group, then swap, etc.

PuzzledObserver · 03/02/2021 15:31

@Changechangychange thank you, that makes sense.

@lurker101 fab news about the uptake!

@OooErrThor who cares why they come, as long as they do.

Frazzled2207 · 03/02/2021 15:32

they have done brilliantly but 5 million doses so far so half of ours by absolute numbers
NiceViper · 03/02/2021 15:45

It's generally better not to invest motives for how people post, especially when they are perjorative ones.

Has it never occurred to you that factual accuracy is in itself worthwhile?

We have about half a million people fully vaccinated, 10million partially, and that is a fantastic achievement

Affor · 03/02/2021 15:51

So sad I've only just found you all!

So the numbers are released at 4pm - where?

TokyoSushi · 03/02/2021 15:51

Just joining in with the positive vibes!

CaveMum · 03/02/2021 15:58

@Affor full UK figures released at 4pm here: coronavirus.data.gov.uk/

The England only figures are available on the NHS website from 2pm each day here: www.england.nhs.uk/statistics/statistical-work-areas/covid-19-vaccinations/

SomethingOnce · 03/02/2021 16:00

Come for the numbers, stay for the clever and highly entertaining posters Smile

MrsDoctorDear · 03/02/2021 16:01

My cousin (care worker) tested positive 5 weeks after her 2nd dose.

I understand symptoms should be minimal but it's quite depressing to think that we may still need negative tests to go on holiday even after we have all been vaccinated.

MrsDoctorDear · 03/02/2021 16:02

Sorry that wasn't very positiveBlush

CoffeeandCroissant · 03/02/2021 16:04

@lunar1

I apologise for reading the DM this morning but they are reporting that the government are aiming to get all adults completely vaccinated by the end of August. That's fantastic news for the next school year!
Makes sense, as the govt are looking at the possibility of giving booster shots of AZ, Pfizer and Moderna vaccines (aimed at new variants) from September onwards.
psychomath · 03/02/2021 16:26

Oh that's unfortunate MrsDoctorDear - hope she makes a quick recovery. International travel will still be tricky for a while I would think, even once we're all vaccinated here, as the destination country would also need to have high vaccination rates for it to be safe. But hopefully with a combination of vaccination and testing it will at least be possible to lift mandatory quarantine rules, which will make things much easier.
