6.3 million people vaccinated already - brilliant!

This is a continuation of the previous thread, www.mumsnet.com/Talk/coronavirus/4129412-1-5-million-people-vaccinated-already-brilliant

6,353,321 people in the UK have now received their first dose of the vaccine - that’s 1 in every 8.3 adults. It’s a truly remarkable achievement to have reached so many people in such a short space of time.

Welcome to the new thread and let’s keep the positive vibes going! Grin

@Frazzled2207

Regarding the fall in cases I’d be surprised if it was making much of difference yet with older people (as they are mostly hiding at home anyway) although I’d expect to see hospitalisations drop.

However having vaccinated almost all the HCPs will make an enormous difference. Not heard the recent view but nurse friends tell me that the staff absence rate due to people being off with the virus was extremely high a few weeks ago

The vaccine's reduction in transmission in what is a high risk place is certainly good news.

@ErrolTheDragon
Now watching the worldwide figures on there which is ace. Basically the Uk, Uae, USA and Israel figures are rocketing. Also notices that Seychelles of all places are doing very well. Everyone else’s creeping up more slowly. Let’s hope that everyone’s numbers are rocketing soon.

ErrolTheDragon · 03/02/2021 11:33

Also notices that Seychelles of all places are doing very well.
The smaller countries and territories are likely to be outliers in various stats. Gibraltar is showing excellent vaccination stats, but they have overtaken San Marino in the unenviable first place for deaths per million population (they both only have total populations of ~33K so are more sensitive to an outbreak)

Frazzled2207 · 03/02/2021 12:01

indeed, and as well as being small nations in terms of populations they are small geographically as well. Gib is basically just a big rock - you could just put one vaccination centre in the middle and everyone could get there easily, probably on foot! UAE also benefits from being geographically quite small and densely populated. But the US is obviously enormous and they are coping well too which is good.

Frazzled2207 · 03/02/2021 12:05

I also wonder if the really small countries might just have had proportionally bigger deliveries. For example a single delivery of 50,000 would go far further proportionally in Gibraltar or Seychelles than in the UK. Perhaps just one delivery could be enough for everyone.

ErrolTheDragon · 03/02/2021 12:52

But the US is obviously enormous and they are coping well too which is good.

It is good. There's quite a bit of variability by state, with again some of the small territories at each end of the scale.

Here’s some more details on the Covishield vaccines (Ox/AZ) produced in India and distributed to Mauritius and Seychelles, Bhutan and others

Looking like another 300,000 vaccinated in England yesterday.

lurker101 · 03/02/2021 14:09

Fantastic! Especially given the adverse weather impacting quite a lot of the country, which you would expect will have adversely impacted elderly people getting out to vaccine centres.

CherryRoulade · 03/02/2021 14:13

Lets remember that this is the number of people part vaccinated....

Yes, we do know. No need for the frequent reminders.
CaveMum · 03/02/2021 14:19

We've had this argument dozens of times with ploppers on these threads. If you have received a vaccination you are vaccinated, if you have not had a vaccine you are not vaccinated. There's no such thing as part vaccinated, you've either had it or you haven't. Yes you have not completed the full course of vaccinations, but the research released yesterday showed that one dose of the AZ vaccine (and likely similar stats for the other vaccines) has 76% efficacy against symptomatic Covid and is 100% effective against hospitalisations. That is not "partial" protection.

scotlandg · 03/02/2021 14:20

Over 10 million people in the UK have now received at least one dose of a Covid vaccine.

Can we ignore the part/semi/half vaccine ‘reminders’ now please? They’re boring.

Another 300,000 is fantastic. I am counting down the days until I no longer have to zoom and can go back to ignoring phone calls instead.

To you, maybe. To others an important part of the overall picture

496,796 fully vaccinated.

NiceViper · 03/02/2021 14:35

Correct.

However it is partial vaccination - one dose of two. And that is fact, no matter how much you try to airbrush it out by conflating two distinctly different concepts

FourTeaFallOut · 03/02/2021 14:36

10 million vaccinated people protected from the worst of this illness. What a fab day!

FourTeaFallOut · 03/02/2021 14:37

Can't wait to find out what % of the adult population have been vaccinated when the figures come out at 4pm.

PuzzledObserver · 03/02/2021 14:41

I notice the number of 2nd doses continues to creep up, even though it is more than 4 weeks since the new policy was introduced.

Someone somewhere must be ignoring it.... unless they are catching up with people who had their first dose in December but had to miss their second appointment because they were ill... or maybe hospital hubs avoiding wasting doses of Pfizer by using them up on staff who happen to be around.

By the way, I just saw a thing on Twitter which said that the use of ellipses was spooky, and an over 40's thing. Just saying...

Changechangychange · 03/02/2021 14:53

NHSE now allows us to give second doses to patients who are about to receive immunosuppression - we’ve been giving second doses to our transplant waiting list patients, our lupus patients about to receive rituximab, etc.

And yes, other places are just ignoring the guidance. We aren’t, but I know the trust up the road from us has decided to proceed with two doses for their staff. They risk having the vaccine removed, but they are a world-famous teaching hospital so obviously think NHSE wouldn’t dare 🤷‍♀️
