Friend saying she’s ignoring lock down from the end of the month.

She’s always being very anti lockdown, citing mental health issues, etc and has just said from next week that’s it. She will do what she wants and take any fines.

I assume she just means visiting family because it’s not like she can go out for lunch or shopping. 🤷‍♀️

But I don’t understand her, she’s an intelligent person and an ex nurse. Her mum is currently very unwell in hospital with covid but she posted the other day that her mum has turned a corner and should hopefully be home soon. So surely she should see if it wasn’t for lockdown then there’s a risk people like her mum may not have got the treatment they needed because the hospitals would have likely being overwhelmed?

If it was me I’d be thankful there had been a lockdown because it wouldn’t have taken much more the way things were going for hospitals to not be able to,offer the current level of care......and in ICU even that isn’t optimal care with stretched ratios.

You know what, I have seen the light. Governments across the world have locked down in error and instead of taking the advice of experts, all should flock to the feet of @Paapa and @lockdownshmockdown and the like and listen to their sage advice instead

I'm out, this thread is making me angry and I don't want to be angry. Enjoy your Saturday nights everyone. Love and peace, one day all this will be over. Flowers

@Signalbox

Well, let's hope her mother survives her daughter's decision

Presumably she would not visit her mother against her will.

But it’s not just her dad who could potentially be affected is it?

If she infects her dad then before her dad has symptoms /knows his daughter has covid he could spread it to people who he sees/works with/in the shop. In turn they all spread it to others.

The staff in the hospital don’t want more people than necessary being infected and potentially in hospital. The people working in the supermarket, etc who were infected by her dad who in turn infect their families didn’t have any choice. Potentially one of them could die? But of course my friend and her dad wouldn’t know if that happened so would just carry on happily. 🤷‍♀️

I also couldn't be friends with someone who ignored the rules, I just wouldn't want to be associated with such selfish people.

I wish I had £1 for every time “selfish” has appeared on MN since last March. Given that our society encourages being self-centred, it’s really rich.

Who calls time on a friendship for this?

SnoozyLou · 23/01/2021 18:48

Our local police are scanning number plates and going after people from outside the area. Woe betide anyone with a defective car or no tax/insurance. A family of 4 had their car seized the other day and had to make their own way home 150 miles away.

They patrol local beauty spots and issue warnings even to people travelling from the next town. I suspect they wouldn't be popular with a few people here, but it was a bloody joke here until recently. The amount of cars with roof boxes, holding everyone up. Definitely tourists - they stand out a mile.

I think your friend will pipe down a bit once she starts getting fined.

feelingquitehopeful · 23/01/2021 18:49

I find her decision quite understandable. Her mother is/has been seriously ill with covid and is in hospital. It is completely understandable if she has spent no proper time with her mother for nearly a year, precious time she could have had, and nearly lost her - that she might be now thinking that at all costs she will not do it again. When people you love are close to death and you can't even see them, it seriously alters your perceptions, perhaps in a permanent way.

This lockdown, even going by this thread is on borrowed time. At best they probably have another four weeks....the advisors know it, we all do.

People are reaching the end of what they can cope with. People's life situations are not the same as yours. They are doing their best to comply. I think that is bloody admirable, and I celebrate every single person tonight gritting their teeth and trying to cope with another day. Bless you and thank you.

'Oh god can people just stop trying to brag and justify breaking the rules, just get on with whatever you want to do without broadcasting it to everyone and their cat'

Well they seem to want to encourage others that their 'I'm all right Jack!' way is the right way and they want a little wave of the pom poms from like minded deniers. Watch the ICU reports on the news occasionally and try to learn a bit about what you're on about or else you look silly.

I bet they're all mask refusers and anti vaxxers too.

VinylDetective · 23/01/2021 18:52

I call bullshit on that. I don’t think for one moment the police have been given the power to confiscate cars.

Shenanigans!

What utter twaddle 😂

You’d lose your money. I wear a mask and can’t wait to be vaccinated. I obey the rules but if my parents were still alive I wouldn’t.

Absolutely - and you are doing more good by taking this approach than anyone screaming vitriol into the wind....

I know you want to believe that, but it’s bollocks I’m afraid.

wanderings · 23/01/2021 18:59

Good for her. I'm glad to know that the brainwashing is not as permanent as any "temporary" emergency government measure. The more people come to their senses, the better.

By the way, scientists are "surprised that Boris talked up the deadliness". Exaggerated, much? Just like the conveniently timed "new variant" just before Christmas? Just like those weapons of mass destruction, for which we "had to" have an illegal war? Perhaps prime ministers might earn more public respect if they stop trying to scare the taxpaying public into obedience.

Lol try again I've already been vaccinated!
TinyTinaTriesAgain · 23/01/2021 19:15

My mum is happy to see me too. I'm not inflicting 'my behaviour on, or forcing, anybody to do anything they don't want to. I've tolerated this for almost a year and I'm done. I will be careful and avoid mixing with groups or multiple people.

@mufffintopandheels I think your post defies all logic.

You are a member of society.
What you do, impinges on me and others.

Not Forcing anyone to do anything they don't want to..

So if we end up dead or in ICU, you honestly feel we chose that and it's got nothing to do with your behaviour?

Are you having a test before seeing your mum?
Do you know you can have covid and not have symptoms? (like 1:3 people do?)
Is your mum over 65 and therefore more at risk?
Do you care if she ends up in ICU ? And that she may end up dead, or someone else may need a bed for cancer treatment and your mum is in one?

Do you ever think about any of this? And your conscience is in the clear, if you do?

Erm... Yes, they do. Stopped with no tax or insurance, 150 miles from home. Absolute morons.

No tax and no insurance. This is why the car was confiscated. The police are not confiscating cars because people are driving outwith their council boundary.

I'm sorry you both lack basic comprehension skills. My original post was clear enough for most people, I would have thought, but then there are the deliberately fucking dense.[/quote]

You assert that the police are going after people outwith some defined boundary. They may speak to them but they will not be confiscating cars. Police have already had their knuckles rapped for that nonsense with the women driving to have a walk and a takeaway coffee together.

Woe betide anyone without tax or insurance, you say. Well yes, this has nothing to do with coronavirus.

shindiggery · 23/01/2021 19:51

Pappa

You are really contradicting yourself there.

The points you're trying to make are also rather revolting, as is the flippant tone in light of the content. You're making it very clear these people's years of life are nothing to you. That's not ok. There is every possibility the next year of life meant and means as much to an elderly person as it does to you. Every possibility.

This thread has turned a bit nuts, police seized a car without tax and insurance - don't they always.
