Friend saying she’s ignoring lock down from the end of the month.

She’s always being very anti lockdown, citing mental health issues, etc and has just said from next week that’s it. She will do what she wants and take any fines.

I assume she just means visiting family because it’s not like she can go out for lunch or shopping. 🤷‍♀️

But I don’t understand her, she’s an intelligent person and an ex nurse. Her mum is currently very unwell in hospital with covid but she posted the other day that her mum has turned a corner and should hopefully be home soon. So surely she should see if it wasn’t for lockdown then there’s a risk people like her mum may not have got the treatment they needed because the hospitals would have likely being overwhelmed?

If it was me I’d be thankful there had been a lockdown because it wouldn’t have taken much more the way things were going for hospitals to not be able to,offer the current level of care......and in ICU even that isn’t optimal care with stretched ratios.

@Paapa

Are people still using the upper storey of their houses rather than squashing together on the ground floor? So selfish if not - you could fall down the stairs and burden the NHS at any time. No bathroom downstairs, you say? Well my uncle William has IBS but he's still shitting in a bucket behind the sofa to save going up the stairs, unlike the SELFISH people who are the reason that we're in this mess.
😂😂
Ihatefish · 23/01/2021 16:41

I think people are starting to realise that this could be going on for years, scientists and government stating that this virus is going to be with us now. I can see us having to have lockdowns as the virus peaks every year. It will be impossible to vaccinate everyone every year if this is needed. It’s likely we are going to have to adapt the way we live our lives long term. What we have now is not sustainable.

At some point we’re going to have to get in with it.

Squashing together? How very irresponsible! In my household we don't even mix with each other. And I haven't been in the same room as myself since last March.

'Well my uncle William has IBS but he's still shitting in a bucket behind the sofa to save going up the stairs, unlike the SELFISH people who are the reason that we're in this mess.'

Confused

What an unfunny and totally odd thing to say.

These deniers/excusers are a desperate bunch, always trying to validate their selfish behaviour.

Paapa · 23/01/2021 16:47

The real question is, why didn't people realise this from the very beginning?

GetOffYourHighHorse · 23/01/2021 16:48

'And I haven't been in the same room as myself since last March.'

All the lolz! People are dying, thousands more suffering in hospital and ICU but you're cracking lame jokes. Yayy.

Why don’t you go and look for your sense of humour? Always assuming you ever had one.
Pootle40 · 23/01/2021 16:51

@VinylDetective

Travelling 50+ miles to go somewhere for a walk runs the risk of being involved in a car accident, thus putting more strain on an already overstretched NHS. People need to think of the bigger picture

Oh, not this tired old bollocks again. The NHS is stretched every winter, it’s never stopped anyone driving hundreds of miles. We didn’t all turn into rubbish drivers last March.

GrinGrinGrinGrin Of all the things I've heard....the best one was not taking children sledging (they'd been inside for days) because they could break a leg and put more strain on NHS. ConfusedHmm
GetOffYourHighHorse · 23/01/2021 16:53

'why didn't people realise this from the very beginning?'

Hmm, lack of crystal balls perhaps. Let's see, back in March there wasn't a superspreading variant and people were compliant.

'Why don’t you go and look for your sense of humour'

Nothing funny in tragic deaths and suffering, made worse by the people on here who just refuse to accept they are part of the problem, These tragic deaths and hospital patients are other people's loved ones y'know. Show some empathy and respect fgs.

Paapa · 23/01/2021 16:53

No, GetOffYourHighHorse doeth not laugh in a time of crisis, even at the people pointing out how ridiculous people like her sound. Because the true crisis is a moral one, which far eclipses the health crisis.
We must defeat the SELFISH LEVITY above all else.

It very much did not take a crystal ball for me and many, many others to know that if we locked down it would lead to a hugely damaging and endless cycle of lockdown and release.

If you didn't know, why not?

lockdownshmockdown · 23/01/2021 16:56

This thread has cheered me right up! Fantastic to see so many people not buying into the bullshit anymore.

Your knowledge and expertise are wasted on mn.

I cba to read your posts but let me guess.. you're a bright 'I'll do what I like me, and me kids will too! fuck 'em!' sort hmm?

GetOffYourHighHorse

Not trying to be funny but reading your posts on here and other threads I really think you sound like you need a big hug. It’s really getting to you - you get yourself super wound up, start being really vitriolic and sarky and try to project YOUR fear of protecting yourself and your family onto others.
Just an observation.

LucilleTheVampireBat · 23/01/2021 17:01

Nope. You're selfish. You want to ruin lives to keep you and yours "safe". You mock people, you insult them, you patronise them. You're not nice. Stop pretending.

Chickenqueen · 23/01/2021 17:01

Oh god can people just stop trying to brag and justify breaking the rules, just get on with whatever you want to do without broadcasting it to everyone and their cat - if you feel so happy and comfortable in your choices why are you coming on here to pick fights?

redsquirrelfan · 23/01/2021 17:02

Actually I think people did as they expected to be the only ones on the road for some reason.

However, the driving for exercise thing is very very VERY tired. People don't have accidents every time they go out, and well maintained cars don't break down from one year to the next. It could happen but is massively unlikely.

Paapa · 23/01/2021 17:06

I've no particular expertise. Just a what I thought was a basic understanding of immunology, human needs and behaviour, and how the food and services industries and the economy works. Turns out that compared to lots of people though, what I thought was basic knowledge is actually way above average. Turns out lots of people didn't give any of that a second thought.

If you didn't know that the first lockdown would lead to this, then I think that you and anyone else in the same boat need to take a serious look at yourselves.

It.
Was.
Obvious.

The only thing that surprised me was how fast they produced a vaccine. I'll admit that blew my mind.

Let me guess,...you're a bright 'I'll do what I like me, and me kids will too! fuck 'em!' sort hmm?

Turns out I'm much brighter than average, as I said. However, I've only broken the lockdown rules once, as it happens. I travelled more than five miles two days before that rule was lifted.

Ilovemypantry · 23/01/2021 17:07

@IndecentFeminist

Even the elderly and vulnerable have only a small.chance of dying from covid, even if she did pass it to them.
Have you seen the daily death figures?

We’re you posting this on mn at the time? Or just now

There were a few early threads with very perceptive posters. But only a few

Exactly! Let's all be charitable with someone else's money
