A covid denier in know posted on FB. If there's so many deaths. Why aren't we seeing loads of private ambulances, funerals etc about.
I live very close in fact I can see the local main hospital from my house. And often see the private ambulances leaving the hospital. Haven't seen any in months
My pil live less than 3min on the same road as the crematorium and said they don't see a huge increase in services.

I'm honestly not denying anything. I totally know covid exists etc but that did get me thinking.
And im sure someone has a perfectly logical explanation on here.

Don't you just love it when someone tells us how easy it is to Google but manages to Google totally incorrect figures presumably to make a point.

There are overflow morgues. Not enough for you?

Silvergreen · 19/01/2021 03:58

@Nottheduchessofcambridge

Covid deaths are up, other deaths are down. A funeral director I know said he hadn’t been any more busy than normal, it’s just the way they’ve had to do things is different. If you look at uk death rates over the last few years, there isn’t much of a difference.
Deaths over the last 12 months are up by 13% over the average of the past 5 years!
Mamanyt · 19/01/2021 04:13

Again, I'm in the USA, but seeing the refrigerated trucks parked behind hospitals and some funeral homes is terrifying. They are there for body storage, as some areas cannot keep up with burials.

Mamanyt · 19/01/2021 05:01

This just in from a doctor friend here in the US:

*Beyond bad here.

We are completely out of physical beds.

I have admitted patients laying on gurneys in the hallway.

Coding* hall patient now

In. The. Hall.*

  • Coding refers to the patient stopping breathing and going into cardiac arrest, requiring heroic measures to resuscitate. Every qualified staff member available must respond to codes when called over the hospital intercom. All too often the patient dies despite their best efforts.

Maybe op you are a denier ? I’d say possibly 60 denier. Thick and opaque.

Can you post a link to this? My google says it’s about 1 percent extra deaths.

Another FD wife over here Grin

We're in the South East and DH is drowning in work sadly.

OP, this is real, you probably won't notice the plain black panelled vans that will contain up to 4 coffins being driven directly to crematoriums without ceremony. Some crematoriums are collecting the deceased's from Funeral homes at dawn and performing a direct cremation, to free up space and time.

At this time, I'd love the pandemic to be fake, and for DH to have an office job and be able to work from home and not put himself at risk daily. Sadly not.

Oh very good Heron.
itsgettingweird · 19/01/2021 07:23

I use to see ambulances constantly as ds swims a lot and we are our morning and evening.

I haven't seen so many recently.

But isn't that to be expected when we are at home and not out and about? Doesn't mean there is less. Just for the hour or so a day we are out exercising we just don't see them.

There is absolutely no way they are lying about deaths. The whole country including the bereaved would have to be on it and the whole notion of that is ridiculous.

Also from what I've seen from news reports etc those who die are placed in bags with risk of infection stickers and so funerals take longer because the bodies must be handled with care.

The whole thing is devastating and my heart goes out to anyone who has had a relative die suddenly from covid. The way they die is horrific.

Exactly this. Yes there are marked private ambulances but not all. DH has a work vehicle that can fit four stretchers inside. You could quite happily drive past it and have no idea. Also I don't know what the situation is in other parts of the country but certainly the company DH works for have a night crew so a lot of this happens between 8pm - 8am. Not because of covid, always has done.

We have a CV daughter and I also would dearly love DH to be home instead of surrounded by covid deceased and their families. I would love for a man who has dealt with death for years to not come home looking broken because yet again he has to tell someone who hasn't seen their family member for months they can't view them. I find threads like this so infuriating and insulting and I can't believe a year into it people are still so intent on looking for conspiracy theories

Nellodee · 19/01/2021 07:28

That macro trends site says at the very top :

All 2020 and later data are UN projections and DO NOT include any impacts of the COVID 19 virus

Bit of a googling fail there, Bluntness.

Timbucktime · 19/01/2021 07:36

Why call somebody a name just because they have asked a question.
I don’t see how they are denying anything simply by asking a question.
Please stop with this nasty name calling, everyone is actually entitled to their own option regardless of what the media say. You are allowing them to create a divide in society.

UnmentionedElephantDildo · 19/01/2021 07:37

a patient is admitted to hospital every 30 seconds op

OP is talking about private ambuiances - ie transport for the dead - leaving hospitals.

It's sod all to do with hospital admissions or regular ambulances moving the living.

A distinction that seems to have been overlooked by a few posters.

I don't think what one person sees is representative of what is going on. Not least because so many private ambulances are just unmarked vans and nobody notices them.

Keratinsmooth · 19/01/2021 08:24

Temporary morgues are in use in Surrey.

Calmandmeasured1 · 19/01/2021 08:52

What you notice will depend on the death rate where you live, whether you live rurally, semi-rurally or in a large city and the time slots at the crematorium.

IME, in England, undertakers usually collect bodies from morgues and private homes in black or dark vans. Not sure why you would expect a private ambulance to be used for the deceased. They are usually used to transfer patients between hospitals and to and from their homes or to care homes. Maybe that is why you haven't seen an increase in them?

I live not far from an ambulance station and have definitely noticed they have increased during the pandemic. When I go out I can guarantee seeing several in a few minutes every time. This dropped off after the first wave but is much more noticeable this time. I am so sick of seeing blue lights.

The crematorium can still only do so many services in a day so I'm not sure why you would expect to notice more traffic to the cemetery/crematorium.
Mine is using the earlier slots in the day for direct cremations or ones where there will be very few attendees as, in non-pandemic times, no-one wanted to arrange morning funerals because of people travelling to them and wanting to arrange wakes to coincide with lunch times. You may not even notice these. They may not use a hearse for a direct cremation.

I also walk to the gardens of remembrance weekly (couldn't do this in the first wave as grounds were shut) and can guarantee there will be a funeral taking place at the crematorium when I arrive. When I leave there will be another funeral incoming.

Mine usually operates on 45-minute time slots and they have about a 4-week waiting list at present. I only know this as a family friend died recently. As a result they went to the next county (semi rural) instead and only had to wait a week.

People are entitled to their own opinion not their own facts. And when there is a concerted misinformation campaign around the reality of Covid, it's actually important to call out misinformation whenever we see it. ..or at least until MNHQ decides it should address the many groups trying to use MN for their own ends and that, in a pandemic, they have a responsibility to ensure information on their platform is accurate and factual and that they don't need to treat bad actors as though they're acting in good faith.
tatutata · 19/01/2021 09:26

That proves nothing whatsoever and actually is denying the facts. This on the other hand is statistically useful in understanding risk (becaaue it makes me sad that some 20 year olds think they're going to drop dead) : medium.com/wintoncentre/how-much-normal-risk-does-covid-represent-4539118e1196

SabrinaMorningstar · 19/01/2021 09:33

Perhap that wasn't the best article to link then because it says Covid roughly doubled your risk of dying last year.
We're now in a different risk level again because it is 8 months later, the numbers are higher and lots of services are struggling to cope.

the80sweregreat · 19/01/2021 09:39

Did the op come back ?
They are lucky not to have lost anyone to this horrible virus :(

Madhairday · 19/01/2021 09:41

Bluntness quite a few have posted this evidence you asked for. I'm not sure what search terms you googled, but your article didn't even include Covid deaths and was projection for 2020.

www.bbc.co.uk/news/amp/uk-55631693

There you go.

Madhairday · 19/01/2021 09:42

(And that was only data up til November, we don't yet know numbers including December :( )

@wlv12 I am so very sorry for your loss. Flowers

EvilPea · 19/01/2021 09:48

I’ve seen more ambulances and more funeral cars.
Don’t forget we are in lockdown, so how much are you going out?
