I'm not a denier or anything but this got me thinking

A covid denier in know posted on FB. If there's so many deaths. Why aren't we seeing loads of private ambulances, funerals etc about.
I live very close in fact I can see the local main hospital from my house. And often see the private ambulances leaving the hospital. Haven't seen any in months
My pil live less than 3min on the same road as the crematorium and said they don't see a huge increase in services.

I'm honestly not denying anything. I totally know covid exists etc but that did get me thinking.
And im sure someone has a perfectly logical explanation on here.

Crematorium are always pretty much booked up between 4-6 weeks in advance round here.
Currently they can do fewer services each day because they have to clean etc between, and also fewer people can attend so they look less busy .
That's why they're thinking there aren't more services.
The current wait time is about 12-14 weeks for a crem service.
(I work in a church office so deal with this)

@AnxiousWeirdo

Well they're building temporary morgues here in London.....

We have one too, in a town in West Yorkshire

Another temporary morgue here in Surrey, in a woodland.

I wonder sometimes how come we don’t see baby pigeons flying in the sky. They’re all fully grown aren’t they, the ones we see. Do you think it’s all a conspiracy and they’re just manufactured drones spying on us?
That’s the problem when people without much sense start ‘thinking’... they think their wisdom is worth sharing.

At a cemetery in the nearest city to me they have put up a huge white marquee style tent. You can see it near the entrance. I’m not sure exactly sure but I think it might be extra body storage. It’s been up a couple of months - I’m wondering if they were given the heads up from the authorities to plan ahead. I’ve also seen an advertisement on Facebook from the local funeral directors looking to recruit new staff in response the higher demand. It’s very sad and I just hope we are nearing the end of this horrible situation. I feel sorry for the people who have lost loved ones.

They’ve also been storing bodies in refrigerated lorries in locations such as hospital car parks. It’s been on the news.

This is very real, we sadly lost a lovely man from our Trust and his daughter went on This Morning with Phil and Holly to try and get the message through to Virus deniers.

DFIL had to wait on the morgue for five days as the funeral parlour was full.

OP, you have no idea.

Two family members and a friend have died since September (none from Covid), and with all three, there was nearly four weeks' delay before the funerals could be held, because there are so many of the deceased to deal with.

Another relative of mine works at a premises which has been readied to act as a temporary morgue once the facilities at hospitals and undertakers are full. They were readied last spring, stood down in the autumn, and then readied again a week ago.

Whilst there are a lot of deaths attributed to covid, we still don't know how many people died from covid rather than with covid.

Well, yes we do, because ONS tells us the number of deaths of covid - ie with covid as a main contributory cause on the death certificate. And that's nearly 90,000 (more now due to that report being a bit out of date), which is more than the with covid within 28 days measure.

So yes we do. Unless you question professionals death certifications, which there is simply no reason to unless you buy into conspiracy theory. Doctors have many times now explained how these are filled in, how more than one cause can be present but how they would not, for example, include covid as a cause if the person died in a car accident. They would if the person died of a stroke brought on by covid.
They only record deaths of covid when covid is a cause.

My mum died alone in hospital on Christmas Day because of covid19.

On Wednesday we have her funeral, no cars and barely any mourners due to covid 19 (most people are joining the service online due to risk factors).

Any deniers are more than welcome to swap their family member for mine.

@TidyOmlette

I live on the same street as a private nursing home. I have seen more private ambulances in the last 6/7 months than I have in 9 years of living here. It’s quite horrible actually

It’s traumatising, isn’t it? Nursing home around the corner from me lost 10 patients in a week. I feel for anybody living or working in assisted living right now.

@Mincepie5

My brother is a covid denier. He doesn’t watch the news, doesn’t listen to the radio. Says he doesn’t believe a word of it. Has no idea that thousands of people are dying. People have spoken on here of his sort being mentally ill. I think he lost the plot years ago. My Dad says he’s mad. I’m trying to find out what sort of mental illness he would have. Not getting the answers online though. Would anyone know?

It's definitely a thing. I was reading about this phenomenon (sorry can't remember the official name for it or which paper it was!) in a newspaper and basically what the psychologist was saying was that it is a coping mechanism. It's much easier for them to insist it's all one big conspiracy as the truth is too upsetting for them to bear.

@savealifenotpubs except that is not true or did they mean just that one week , per capita we do not have the highest and shocking that a newspaper would print that
We are up amongst the worst but papers should print facts

I think that a lot of deceased people are taken to private morgues,in special vehicles, as some undertakers are struggling to cope, with the many people who have passed away.

Some areas of the country are more severely affected than others. I'm a parish minister in relatively rural west of Scotland, and I've had fewer than average funerals over the past year, and the last funeral I had was in October. I've not had any Covid funerals at all, but I have colleagues in other parts of Scotland who've had several covid funerals in the space of one week.

This month, 3 of my parishioners ended up in hospital with broken bones after slipping on snow and ice. I do however, currently have one parishioner in hospital with Covid - which he caught in hospital having been admitted for something else. Cases are on the increase in this area, and I'm aware that it's probably just a matter of time before I do have covid funerals.

Report
Albless · 19/01/2021 02:01

I mentioned the hospitalisations as a result of falls in icy conditions because I have not had any parishioners hospitalised because they had covid.

there are on average 1000 deaths a day, in january anyway,
all over the uk.
so you might not notice the funeral cars.
