A covid denier in know posted on FB. If there's so many deaths. Why aren't we seeing loads of private ambulances, funerals etc about.
I live very close in fact I can see the local main hospital from my house. And often see the private ambulances leaving the hospital. Haven't seen any in months
My pil live less than 3min on the same road as the crematorium and said they don't see a huge increase in services.

I'm honestly not denying anything. I totally know covid exists etc but that did get me thinking.
And im sure someone has a perfectly logical explanation on here.

  • There is a limit on how many people can attend a funeral. Also a lot won't want to even meet that because shielding. So the view via zoom

*With less people attending very few cars. I have seen the funeral director just use his van rather than the normal coffin car) mind blank I can't remember the nameGrin.

*People that do attend probably won't want to use the funeral limousines because of covid. Social distancing etc.

*My local funeral director announces most the funerals on are local Facebook. He writes a bit about the person and often mentions if covid. It is sad but actually rather a reassuring because you can see they are mostly over 70. So the death data is true.

*Sometimes there is a delay in the body being released too. Paper work, logistics and possibly an investigation. As this death increase happened quickly and recently so bodies are probably still on ice.

SunsetSenora · 18/01/2021 23:01

People have to wait a lot longer for funerals - my mum died last week and the earliest date for the funeral is mid Feb. I guess they can only do so many creations a day, so waiting times are getting much longer.

time4anothername · 18/01/2021 23:02

well lucky you OP. On my local newsfeed last week was a distressing post from the local mosque asking for help because they have gone from handling 2 to 3 funerals a month to 2 to 3 a day and can't keep up with the preparations, the burials or the driving.

bumblingbovine49 · 18/01/2021 23:03

@Nottheduchessofcambridge

Covid deaths are up, other deaths are down. A funeral director I know said he hadn’t been any more busy than normal, it’s just the way they’ve had to do things is different. If you look at uk death rates over the last few years, there isn’t much of a difference.
This is not true . Deaths are definitely higher than they normally are this time of year. I'd love to see any actual data that shows deaths are no higher than normal at the moment .

You've been had I'm afraid. How on earth did you allow yourself to fall for all that bullshit? Your comment is straight out of the conspiracy theorists handbook.

I think you get the vast majority of people who understand what’s happening, comply with the restrictions, use some personal judgement sometimes, and address it rationally

But it’s like a bell curve. At either end there are the mentally unwell extremes. From those so hysterical they think life will never return to normal and are too scared to leave their homes, thinking it’s coming in their windows and they need to quarantine their shopping , to the other end of the curve, with people who think it’s all a conspiracy made to cover up that there are now secret government people tracking them..

It’s not “cringe” it’s very unwell people who don’t know they are unwell.

Mamanyt · 18/01/2021 23:08

Here in the USA, I have had 15 close friends and relatives die. ALL funerals were private, immediate family only...often only 2-3 people. Memorials are planned for "later," whenever later is. This is almost certainly happening in the UK, as well. At some point, I shall be very busy attending memorial services.

HollowTalk · 18/01/2021 23:08

Did you even get GCSE Science, OP?

The Covid pandemic has caused excess deaths to rise to their highest level in the UK since World War Two.
There were close to 697,000 deaths in 2020 - nearly 85,000 more than would be expected based on the average in the previous five years.
This represents an increase of 14% - making it the largest rise in excess deaths for more than 75 years.
When the age and size of the population is taken into account, 2020 saw the worst death rates since the 2000s.
This measure - known as age-standardised mortality - takes into account population growth and age.
The data is only available until November - so the impact of deaths in December have not yet been taken into account - but it shows the death rate at that stage was at its highest in England since 2008.

I know of several deaths during the last year where the families have said private goodbyes, no funeral service at all. 2 relatives families did this plus a friend who lost her husband. I wonder if lots of other families are making similar decisions since they can't have the funeral they would have liked?

CoffeeandCroissant · 18/01/2021 23:12

52,676 deaths were registered in England in December 2020, 10,594 deaths more than the five-year average (2015 to 2019).

In Wales, there were 3,941 deaths registered; 1,075 deaths more than the five-year average

COVID19 was the most common cause for deaths registered in England and Wales from January to December 2020.

Latest ONS analysis today confirms age-adjusted mortality deteriorated at an annual rate of 13% in England in 2020. In line with the numbers we reported on last week. This is the worst single year deterioration in mortality since 1929.

Everhopeful1 · 18/01/2021 23:16

They may see less activity at the crematorium because of covid. Our nearest crem only operates funerals every 45 mins to allow for cleaning public areas & each side of the crem is used alternately - as oppose to the previous15 min intervals.

Dr Vernon Coleman, the AIDS denier?

And you call us sheep. If it wasn't so utterly fucking tragic it would be funny.

Ignorant people unaware of the crisis doesn't bother me at all - unless they then ignore the rules and infect others. Then they have a case to answer.

ketosavedmylife · 18/01/2021 23:18

@Bluntness100

I actually feel concern for people like the op and her friend. I mean they are literally sitting there thinking governments round the world are lying to them and faking deaths. When you’re reduced to that, you’re not well, and it’s concerning.
They have a different opinion to you, a different experience. It is natural to ask questions. They are not 'deniers' for asking questions.

I certainly hope that governments and institutions around the world are not conspiring, lying or faking the narrative for some ulterior motive. That would be incredibly horrific, wouldn't it, bearing in mind the devastating effect on global economies and mental health.

Macmoominmamma · 18/01/2021 23:18

What’s your point OP? Do you think it’s some conspiracy?.

Nottheduchessofcambridge · 18/01/2021 23:20

@bumblingbovine49 it’s not hard to google. In 2018 there were 541,000 deaths, in 2020 there were 543,000 deaths (rounded the figures as I can’t remember them exactly) now that’s not much of a rise considering there’s a pandemic. I’m not saying people aren’t dying of Covid right now, I’m just giving an explanation why all morgues and funeral homes aren’t being overrun. Deaths attributed to other causes are way down because people are staying at home, less road accidents etc.

cdtaylornats · 18/01/2021 23:20

It is so random the effect. I live next door to a couple in their mid-70s, both got covid, he was in hospital for 20 days, she felt a bit run down.

Goldieloxx · 18/01/2021 23:20

It's extremely disrespectful to minimise this virus, and dangerous. And 85k excess deaths prove you wrong

HorseOfPhillipMoss · 18/01/2021 23:21

Our local park and ride is shut as it's a temporary morgue now

ohnana · 18/01/2021 23:22

I live next door to a funeral home and work from home overlooking it (and did so before the pandemic so I know the difference). Today there were 3 funerals, the first at 8am. Usually there would only have been 3/4 a week max. It’s very sad seeing people gathered outside as they can’t go in.

littlemisslozza · 18/01/2021 23:26

I saw a similar question recently about why if our hospitals are full, the car parks aren't. Because visitors aren't allowed! You generally don't drive yourself to intensive care. Similar here, hardly any mourners allowed.

Loopylobes · 18/01/2021 23:28

they used this flu like virus to control the masses, track everyone's movements a cashless society.

This is insane!

When everyone has a phone on them 24/7, any truly malevolent government who wanted to track citizens would just hack their mobile data.

What on earth does it have to do with a cashless society? That in itself is a better way to track people and would be more effective if those people could actually go to the bloody shops!

FFS. Wake up and smell the coffee! The government benefits most from people going to work and paying taxes. Lockdown has seriously damaged their income. Closing schools again will have damaged it further. The healthier the population and the greater numbers in work, paying taxes and buying goods and services, the better off the government is. They have nothing to gain by either spreading a virus or locking society down.
