Covid Vaccine and side effects

Knobblybobbly · 11/01/2021 19:41

I know several people who have had the Oxford vaccine. Most of them have had quite nasty side effects. Some bad enough to stay off work. Just a few people had so side effects at all.

Does it mean anything either way??

Does it mean anything either way??

In what way?

AnnaMagnani · 11/01/2021 19:46

How do you mean? I just had a sore arm. A colleague felt ill and had a day off work.

Both of us are delighted we got to have the vaccine.

Stop scaremongering

I know about 15 people who’ve had it so far... no side effects what do ever other than utter relief

lunar1 · 11/01/2021 19:48

Nobody I know has had anything worse than a sore arm from either vaccine and I know at least 80 work friends who have had them.

Ch3rish · 11/01/2021 19:50

Presumably it means that they had some side effects

There's a system for reporting this so if they passed on the information presumably it goes off to a central monitoring place.

SupportingDoctors · 11/01/2021 19:53

If you look at the appendix to the submitted data on the vaccine, you can see from the table of side effects that a substantial minority do get them for a day including a headache and/or fatigue and/or aching muscles, as well as the sore arm. It’s just your body mounting an immune response. I doubt there is an important difference between those who feel the side effects and those who don’t.

Knobblybobbly · 11/01/2021 19:56

Blimey. There was really no ulterior motive for this post. I’m being accused of scaremongering?? Are you scared??? If I, in some way, ‘mongered’ that emotion with my post I do apologise!!!

By nasty side effects I mean temp, headache, flu like symptoms. Not death. But enough to have a couple days off of work.

I have had no side effects at all and I’m really surprised. I’m normally the first person to flake off with an illness!

So I suppose my question really is....

Does having side effects = strong immune response and therefore more effective vaccine for that individual?

And I guess, selfishly, I’m worried my lack of side effects means maybe my immune response has been poor.

Disclaimer (forgot to put this in my original post)

  • I apologise in advance if this has offended anyone.
  • I am incredibly grateful to have had the vaccine
  • I hope everyone here is ok

Oh look another fucking antivax thread.

Look, OP. We see through you. Try harder next time. This is just sad.

unsure111 · 11/01/2021 19:57

5 of my colleagues had the second dose last week. About 20 mins of having it they all got a terrible headache. The next day they felt even worse. One of them had to cancel their clinic. They couldn't concentrate, terrible headache, aching all over, sweating and hearts were racing. Another person attached to the practice had it and his arm has swelled and needed intervention. Had the second last week and his other arm swelled after that one. It was the pfziter (spelling?) vaccine. It's not scaremongering it's what actually happens to some people. 🤷‍♀️ it's fine for some and not for others

The leaflet makes it clear that there is a chance you may get nausea, aches, headaches, temp etc. Known side effects that happen immediately as your body starts the immune response, as someone has already said. I had a v sore arm and a very very mild headache. Nothing two paracetamol couldn't manage. What do you think it means, OP? Your tone suggests something a little sinister.
Knobblybobbly · 11/01/2021 19:59

For context, 10 of my colleagues had the vaccine on Saturday. 6 today we’re off sick. So in my tiny (and yes, very insignificant) world that’s a 60% majority feeling ill enough to stay off work.

So I was simply curious to know if it meant anything.

Well.... this was fun.

I’ll be off then.

Just to add before I'm accused of scaremongering for stating what actually happened. 3 other colleagues had it and they've been fine.

supersonicginandtonic · 11/01/2021 20:00

Every vaccination I have I end up with a temp, a sore arm and a headache. Always have. I had a day off work after the flu jab in October. It's just one of those things.

CountessFrog · 11/01/2021 20:00

Unsure.

Five of your colleagues? And yet I’m in a team of 100 and nobody has reported this. Everyone has reported a sore arm. My husband is in a team of 55 hospital consultants - no reports like yours.

So I know 155 people who’ve had it, nobody has reported such side effects. It’s VERY hard to believe you’re being truthful.

Knobblybobbly · 11/01/2021 20:01

Sinister?

I’m re-reading my my post.

Any tips on how to avoid sounding sinister in future?

Dont go
The general population need to know these things, even if some mumsnetters object to that.

SycamoreGap · 11/01/2021 20:02

I’ve had the Pfizer vaccine and have has no side-effects.

I feel privileged to be in one of the early cohorts, as well as happier that I am reducing the risk of bringing it home from work as my husband has leukaemia.

No, 6. 6 out of 10.

Wouldn’t exactly stand up to gold standard research I know! 😬

Why would I lie? I work with 12 admin people across 2 surgeries. It was mix of nurses and doctors and admin staff who had the vaccine. Unfortunately they got bad side affects. Like I said 2 others had it and they've been fine. There's still more of us to have it
Ch3rish · 11/01/2021 20:03

For vaccines in general or this one specifically? Either way I'm sure the answer will be available online somewhere

fiveoldteddies · 11/01/2021 20:04

I had headaches, and high temp for 2 days after my second vaccin.

Did I mention I had the vaccine on Saturday and have had no side effects??

Seriously, is everyone here ok?????

OP posts:
MadisonMontgomery · 11/01/2021 20:05

Everyone at work has had it, nobody has had any problems other than a sore arm for 24 hours or so.

unsure111 · 11/01/2021 20:06

No wants to hear the good, the bad and the ugly. Just because it hasn't happened to them or people they know in their world doesn't mean it's not happening to others.
