Covid Vaccine and side effects

Knobblybobbly · 11/01/2021 19:41

I know several people who have had the Oxford vaccine. Most of them have had quite nasty side effects. Some bad enough to stay off work. Just a few people had so side effects at all.

Does it mean anything either way??

@FluffySocks75, thank u for posting about tachycardia, my an adult ds has it and I will seek medical advice whether he can risk the jab as it might be too serious for him.

FluffySocks75 · 13/02/2021 22:54

@yogalite mine wasn't too bad. 110 resting. Not like my 190 when I was I'll with something else. I would lean on still getting it - covid can cause actual heart damage and being ill with covid would cause much worse tachycardia so I'll def still be having 2md one. But yeah have a chat with med professionals but v v few reasons not to get it given what covid can potentially do. I think it's just good to know so can mitigate risk eg extra meds if on them/extra fluids/keep an eye on them etc

YogaLite · 13/02/2021 23:10

My ds resting is 100, only found out recently when we got oximeter. I don't yet understand the mechanics why.

grandmasterstitch · 21/02/2021 04:45

I had the vaccine yesterday morning and felt completely fine until I woke up after falling asleep on the sofa. Having the worst nights sleep, everything hurts and I can't get comfortable at all, plus I have a cracking headache. I'm also pregnant so often things hurt anyway but it's a lot worse at the moment! Hoping to feel better at some point today but now I'm really worried about the second vaccine, I don't cope well with feeling poorly Grin

LaBelleSauvage123 · 21/02/2021 07:17

Don’t get the vitriol on this thread at all! To me it was obvious that the OP was asking whether experiencing side effects means that you have a stronger immune response to the jab. I’ve wondered the same myself. Various members of my family have had the vaccine ( all Oxford) - the older ones have had no side effects, the younger ones have had mild reactions, with one ( who has an autoimmune condition) being quite unwell for 48 hrs. I am 60, had mine yesterday and have been awake since 4 with aching joints and a headache, so am the anomaly in my family. Found myself wondering if this means I’ve had a ‘good’ response to the jab, found this thread, thought ‘oh good, someone asking the same question’ and then woah!

I had the AZ one on Friday evening, sore arm by yesterday morning, high temperature and sweating between hours 24 - 36, muggy head, hot and cold, shivers. Still muggy now at 36 hours but feel a lot better than last night.

WentworthMillerMad · 21/02/2021 09:06

I had mine on Friday, have had 48 hours of feeling pretty awful. Aches, shivers, severe fatigue but insomnia weirdly! Feel well enough now to walk my dog. I had covid at some point (asymptomatic) as have positive antibodies (Scottish education trial). Small price to pay!
I took brufen and paracetamol before my injection and continued. Arm still agony!

CKBJ · 21/02/2021 09:12

My DM (61) had her Oxford vaccine yesterday. Last night uncontrollable whole body shakes, with slight temp (37.8) for about 3hrs. That subsided and temp 38.9 since coming down to 38.6 with paracetamol. Pins and needles in arm. Headache and whole body aches. Not out of bed this morning. Will monitor.

yomommasmomma · 21/02/2021 09:33

I had AZ earlier this week and had exactly as others have described v high temp 39.2, shaking, shivering, terrible headache and nausea. That lasted for 48 hours and now just left with a sore arm.

But the biggest side effect I had was.....being grateful!

My DB is a GP giving the vaccine and has said that they are seeing lots of side effects of this sort in younger people taking the AZ jab. It is totally normal and to be expected, younger, healthier people have a higher immune response.

mummyof4kids · 21/02/2021 09:42

I had the Pfizer last month and had zero side effects but know of people at work (nhs) who had bad reactions to both the Pfizer and Oxford.
I'm due my second dose in April and have no qualms about having it, the sooner we're all vaccinated the sooner we get our lives back

Flute56 · 25/03/2021 17:46

i had my oxford vacine this morning. I have headache and am tired but that has got nothing to do with the vacination because, I did not sleep much last night becuse I was a bit worried about possible side effects so I woke up with a headache so my symptoms are self inflicted non sleep ones lol

JS87 · 25/03/2021 18:04

I heard side effects are due to your innate first line non specific immune response. Generally older people have a less active innate immune response. However you only need a fraction of the innate response some people are getting to prime the t and B cells adaptive response which is why the vaccines are still working well in older people.
I suspect side effects may be worse for AZ than mRNA as it is in a chimpanzee afenoviral vector so something else foreign for the immune system to recognise.

Flute56 · 25/03/2021 22:28

I asked about side effects and I was told both vacinations are the same, I was told by a friend that you dont really know if you are going to get side effects until the following day. At the moment after having the Oxford v one this morning I feel tired and a bit lethargic, but as I said earlier, I did not sleep that well last night

Chichiboo · 31/03/2021 15:23

My mum dad brother and husband have had AstraZeneca. My mum and husband were ill with flu like symptoms for 48hrs afterwards. All had a sore arm. Just grateful to have had it.

Witchofthedales · 26/04/2021 10:14

I know this is an old thread but for fuck's sake what is wrong with you people??
OP asked a simple question, one which I was looking for the answer to today which brought me here.
My husband and I had the vaccine yesterday, he has side effects I have none, ( up to now), like OP.
We are just wondering if no side effects means less protection than side effects.
I have googled and managed to find out that it makes no difference whatsoever. Everyone's immune response is different. You are still protected whether you had side effects or not.
Bloody Hell, I think you all owe OP an apology. You're like a pack of fucking rabid dogs!
Calling her an anti vaxer when she said she's had the jab, come on!
I think you all need to chill out a bit!
Hope you're okay, OP. 💐

Previous message not aimed at those who were civil.

Realitea · 28/04/2021 07:12

I agree the op got a bad time for posting such a normal question
I’m six days post vaccine and still struggling to find the energy to do anything. Had a dodgy stomach last night and can’t stop sleeping. I didn’t think side effects would last this long

Knobblybobbly · 05/09/2022 16:15

Hi! Sorry I’ve been off mumsnet for aaaaages! Came back on to ask a beauty question and remembered the innocent vaccine thread I started a while ago and the absolute BASHING I got for posting it! Curiosity brought me back….

It’s a pretty funny read now, given that people feeling unwell after the vaccine is very well recognised reaction and quite common place.

I guess emotions were running high at the time.

Oh well, I survived the trolling and have now had 3 vaccines in total and soon will book my 4th. Never have I had an adverse reaction. I’ve also had covid twice and pretty mild symptoms both times. So that’s the results of my very small medical trial!

Thank you @Witchofthedales for noticing how it all got a bit out of hand. It’s one of the major reasons I’ve hardly been on MN since, I lost a bit of respect for the forum in general due to those irrational, hateful, knee jerk responses.
