Covid Vaccine and side effects

Knobblybobbly · 11/01/2021 19:41

I know several people who have had the Oxford vaccine. Most of them have had quite nasty side effects. Some bad enough to stay off work. Just a few people had so side effects at all.

Does it mean anything either way??

OP posts:

@BatleyTownswomensGuild absolutely, the side affects seem to be no different to other jabs that people have been having for years .

Seasaltyhair · 12/01/2021 07:59

My grandmother felt under the weather after her second vaccine. But she is happy she has had it.

Although she’s still not coming out of the house as she is scared the ‘African Covid virus’ might get her.

JS87 · 12/01/2021 08:02

Have any of your colleagues had covid previously? I wonder if side effects would be worse if it was effectively acting as a booster with immune defences more quickly reactivated than priming a naive immune response. That would also explain why people feel worse after second jab.

Bohemiagirl · 12/01/2021 08:04

I know several people who've had the Pfizer vaccine. None have had any side effects, just a sore arm for a day or so.

Ponoka7 · 12/01/2021 08:07

My friend, over 65 ECV, got her vaccine last week. She was ill for around three days. It was worth it for her. I'm also vulnerable, but won't get my Oxford vaccine until Feb/March. I'll plan for a three day illness just in case. It's much better than the unknown response to Covid.

movingonup20 · 12/01/2021 09:30

3 friends have had it, one got a bad headache

Hobbesmanc · 12/01/2021 12:12

Pfizer- sore arm after first one but mild. Almost exactly 24 hours after the second, I had a wave of fatigue and a dull headache - passed after a couple of hours. Similar experience for a couple of colleagues

alreadytaken · 12/01/2021 12:14

Only know people who have had Pfizer vaccine - sore arms but nothing else.

ApplesinmyPocket · 12/01/2021 12:16

DH had the Pfizer (first dose) - slightly sore arm, nothing else

DD1 (nurse) had the Pfizer first dose also - slightly sore arm a bit of fatigue, not enough to keep her off work.

oneglassandpuzzled · 12/01/2021 12:16

After the second Pfizer vaccine I know of quite a few people who had a reaction the following day: flu-like symptoms.

They were still very glad they had it.

rampantvirus · 12/01/2021 12:23

I am in my second week of Covid. Severe headache, nausea, dizziness, tired. I would have my vaccine this minute if I could. I expect I might get these symptoms again when I get my jab but will be worth it for a day or so of a headache. Grin

fiveoldteddies · 12/01/2021 14:39

Just met 2 other people who felt unwell, had to take a day off. Both had Covid before.

hettyhooverdoover · 12/01/2021 14:42

@OverTheRainbow88

Stop scaremongering

I know about 15 people who’ve had it so far... no side effects what do ever other than utter relief

Sorry but had many ill where we work. But the ones who were really poorly had covid before.
ChasingRainbows19 · 12/01/2021 14:49

I don’t think people are scaremongering by stating some people have had some potential side effects. I’m sure people could recount times they or their children had small reactions to regular vaccines in the past.

Colleagues I know were and absolutely fine after the initial side effects. Some needed to rest for a day and take some paracetamol etc others just had a bit of a bad head. Of course some had no side effects
A friends elderly mother again is fine after both injections after initially a few hours of feeling a bit off.

MRex · 12/01/2021 15:03

One elderly relative had two Pfizer doses and said she had to take paracetamol for a day after the second one because of headaches. I wonder if that might be advisable for anyone, it's advised to dose babies with Calpol for their jabs so quite similar.

Like a PP said, it may be more related to how badly someone would react to covid itself. A few symptoms can be reassuring to know a vaccine worked, apart from a pinprick scab I couldn't tell that I'd had the flu jab this year, didn't even feel it, at least a tiny ache would give some reassurance.

PinkDaffodil2 · 12/01/2021 15:10

I’ve heard of a lot of people with a sore arm - enough for it to be a bother for a few days and make it painful to sleep on, especially younger people after the second jab. Also quite a lot with low fevers for a day or two, consensus seems split as to exactly how high a temp means you should get a test just in case.
Both expected and I guess a sign a good immune response is being generated.

PinkDaffodil2 · 12/01/2021 15:11

I’m hoping to get mine this week and will take regular paracetamol or a day or two after.

zaffa · 12/01/2021 15:13

Snap @rampantvirus. The best part of having this vaccine, even if the side effects are exactly the same as the effect the virus is currently having on my body, is that I would not have to worry that the vaccine would land me in hospital with respiratory failure like I do with the covid. I would snap that vaccine up without a second thought.
Breastfeedingworries · 12/01/2021 15:43

I’ve got actual Covid right now and I’d have preferred the vaccine thanks!

WhydoesItAlwaysRainMe · 12/01/2021 16:20

How many days after vaccine did you get any side effects, I had mine couple of days ago and only had a sore arm. I've had covid a back in September

fiveoldteddies · 12/01/2021 17:34

Got side effects within 10-12 hours. I think it says if you have"symptoms" beyond 48 hours to get a vivid test. But was also when attending for vaccine, to get tested if temp above 38C.

hettyhooverdoover · 12/01/2021 21:04

@boogiebogie

You can read vaers reports lots of reactions and anaphylaxis to the pfizer vaccination.
Yes, well I am shocked by the amount of reactions we got at our work place. Part of me feels duped, I honestly thought it would be similar to the flu vaccine effects, slight painful arm etc. But it really hasn't been unfortunately
hettyhooverdoover · 12/01/2021 21:08

OP you are not scaremongering. There are very intense reactions to the Pfizer vaccine and I feel annoyed that people aren't made more aware of this. I certainly wasn't expecting it and was shocked at the amount of staff that were very poorly with fever, sickness, dizziness etc...apparently this is normal but it definitely wasn't the odd person who had it where I work, it was many!

Pyewhacket · 12/01/2021 21:08

Felt rough after Pfizer jab, lasted a few days. Glad I had it though.

MrsBeltane · 12/01/2021 21:21

I felt quite unwell after my 2nd Pfizer injection. Lots of my colleagues were affected. Absolutely fine after 48 hours.
Other colleagues have had their 1st Astra Zeneca dose, no complaints from anyone.
