Covid Vaccine and side effects

Knobblybobbly · 11/01/2021 19:41

I know several people who have had the Oxford vaccine. Most of them have had quite nasty side effects. Some bad enough to stay off work. Just a few people had so side effects at all.

Does it mean anything either way??

OP posts:
ScrumptiousBears · 12/01/2021 21:29

I haven't had it but know someone who had their first and got similar to flu symptoms. Achy shivers etc for about 24 hours. I tend to get the same when I've had my fly jab.

ladylunchalot · 12/01/2021 21:42

Op, I had the Pfizer one last week and felt grotty about 12 hours after it. Headache, aches, diarrhoea, felt warm and my neck glands were swollen. I took paracetamol and had to go back to bed - lucky I was on annual leave lol.
Felt much better the next day, just a bit of a wooly head and my arm was really sore until the weekend.
Not sure if I've had covid - all my office dropped like flies with it last month but I was fine. Not sure if I had it and was asymptomatic or am a super spreader!

Yogaca1 · 22/01/2021 14:33

Just had the oxford vaccine today . No side effects as yet. Will post if I get any. Feeling grateful

ghostyslovesheets · 22/01/2021 17:05

Just had Pfizer- was told that flu like symptoms where possible- it’s fine I’d rather have that than COVID again!

Flu like symptoms are also a side effect of the flu jab I have yearly- nowt to worry about

AlTaylor86 · 31/01/2021 09:33

What in the actual hell is going on with this thread? I've never seen such unnecessary anger and outrage before over such an innocent post. I'm an ICU nurse and for not one second found any issue with the OP asking about side effects of the vaccine, a topic she clearly knows little about and has every right to enquire about. I'm also a mother to 2 young children and regularly read threads about the vaccines babies have in their first year and the side effects to watch out for. Why? Because it's important to know. So why are all of those threads perfectly ok and free of dramatic vitriol like this one? What's the difference, their asking the same questions? OP, i'm sorry you've had to deal with such overt ignorance and hope you got the answers you were searching for amongst all of the drivel. Please never apologise for seeking answers on a forum that's very purpose is to do just that - discuss, assist and share views. To everyone insinuating she is a scaremongering anti-vaxxer attempting to insight doubt about the vaccine, pull it together and do better; learn to know the difference, because I assure you, anti-vaxxers don't make a habit of hiding their intentions and are very obvious about their stance. Good lord.

ILookAtTheFloor · 31/01/2021 11:02

I had my first Pfizer jab on Thursday and I did have a very tender arm that I couldn't sleep on, but much better yesterday and only a slight ache now. I can sleep on it again.

Nothing else. Will be curious if the 2nd is worse as per anecdotes I've read.

Dannn · 01/02/2021 17:24

Ive had my first dose of Pfizer, felt really unwell for around 36 hours afterwards, temperature fatigue and aching muscles. I was in bed for nearly 24 hours! I’m in my early 30s normally fit and well. I had asymptomatic covid (confirmed by antibody test) early last year. Woke up the next day and felt absolutely fine!

TammyTwoSwanson · 01/02/2021 22:22

Had Astra zenica this morning and now I feel flu-ey. Shivery, low grade fever, muscle aches, foggy head, very tired. I've had worse colds, and I'm taking it as a good sign that I'm creating an immune response!
My immune system isn't the best (hence why I am CEV), so I'm seeing this as a positive!

Clarich007 · 11/02/2021 15:45

Hi OP
I had the Oxford AstraZeneca yesterday, didn't feel a thing, no sore arrm at all, but 12 hours later had quite a reaction.
Developed a high temperature, then awful chills and a thumping heart and headache.Coundn't sleep at all last night.
Feel like I have a hangover today, and slow and heavy.Still very grateful to get the vaccine tbough.70 years old and healthy on no medication.
.

Alwaystired99 · 11/02/2021 16:34

I'm very pleased I had my first dose of vaccine yesterday but was looking for other people's experiences as I feel awful today; every bit of me aches, my head is banging, was shivering for hours in the night, can hardly lift my arm and I feel very out of it. I had both flu and whooping cough vaccines last year and no side effects.
I'm happy it hopefully means my body is reacting as it should, but fascinated as to why some people are affected more than others and how long will it last? I've got 2 young children to look after and all I want to do is wrap up and go to bed!

JanewaysBun · 11/02/2021 19:14

One person I know (70) had the AZ vaccine and felt a bit shit for a few days. I felt shit after the flu jab this year too. Not as shit as if we had covid/flu though

JanewaysBun · 11/02/2021 19:15

Oh actually another person I kmow did too. Both male, nothing terrible

FluffySocks75 · 11/02/2021 22:11

Some of the comments on thos thread are wild. OP @Knobblybobbly I hope you are ok. Good question I was wondering myself if it meant anything!

I had AZ today in my 30s.

I didnt read anything about side effects I assumed a bit of a achey arm. That's all. That's what I get with flu jab and so assumed similar.

Have so far had dizzy/nausea. Banging headache. Chills/shivering and mist recently a v mild increase in temp.

I've since googled and seen these are common "1 in 10" symptoms on the gov website.

Apparently younger people seem to get much more symptoms than over 65s as a general rule.

I'm very very very pro vaccine. Was literally counting days to get this and cannot wait for my 2md and if they decide oxford not enough for some variants and I have to have a pfizer/other top up I'll gladly have that. I would encourage everyone to take it if offered and I'm so thankful to have it. (Feel I have to say that before I get called an antivax scaremongerer for saying I've had side effects...side effects that are listed as VERY COMMON on the government's website Hmm )

TheHobbitMum · 12/02/2021 00:26

I had 1st dose of Oxford vaccine on Saturday by Sunday I felt as though I'd been hit by a bus! I was in bed for 4 days with flu symptoms, fever, headache, sickness, racing heart rate etc but the worst side effect has been the extremely painful upper arm. Where I had the injection is red hot, whole upper arm is swollen, there is a large egg like lump in the Injection site and very intense itching under the skin. The swelling just seems to get bigger/worse as the days go on.
Still better than Covid but I'm not looking forward to the 2nd dose now

WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants · 12/02/2021 00:32

@PaddyF0dder

Oh look another fucking antivax thread.

Look, OP. We see through you. Try harder next time. This is just sad.

Don't be daft, she's not anti vax. She's just asking if different reaction ms or no reaction mean you're building better /no immunity.

Stop jumping down people's throats!

You don't HAVE to read every thread & it was obvious what it was going to be about

ConeHat · 12/02/2021 00:38

I was called in for my vaccine tomorrow which is a shock because I'm in my 40's and a sahm.

I'm a carer for my son but so is dh but I am medicated for high blood pressure.

I had covid in January and I want to know about side effects. Why wouldnt people want to know? Covid was very mild for me so if I had bad side effects I would be scared. I. Expecting a painful arm, headache and fever now. Otherwise i would only be expecting a sore arm.and possibly a mild fever.

I can be ready with pain relief now. That's not sinister?

XenoBitch · 12/02/2021 00:41

A vaccine is like any other medication.... everyone reacts to it differently. Some don't notice any side effects at all and some ill have very severe ones. There is nothing wrong with sharing your experience.
I have someone on my FB begging people not to share negative side effects as she is worried it will put people off getting the vaccine. But then she also said it is a choice between vaccine or death...

WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants · 12/02/2021 00:43

@hopefulhalf

Another question (due to have the 2nd pfzeir jab on friday). If you do get a fever would you get a test or assume it's vaccine SE. I am talking about a low grade short lived fever here.?
No because it's an known reaction to having a vaccination. There are more details on the NHS site, it comments specifically on this
Emrae · 12/02/2021 08:36

Gosh mumsnet is really sad, leave this poor OP alone. This place is more toxic than typical social media.

Clarich007 · 12/02/2021 10:30

Little update.I had my Zeneca vaccine on Wednesday, 12 hours later felt awful.Racing heart, thumping headache, fever and chills.I posted about it upthread.
Today 48 hours later I feel absolutely fine. Some reassurance for people who are suffering side effects.

Alwaystired99 · 12/02/2021 10:44

Well my update on yesterday's comment on feeling terrible was it got progressively worse; achy, shivery, very spaced out and then 12 hours after I started feeling rough it just stopped! I had the AZ 48 hours ago and other than a slightly sore arm, which is already better than it was, I feel fine! Hooray for vaccines and leave poor OP alone!

readthestandingorders · 12/02/2021 10:51

Had the AZ one yesterday morning, haven't slept all night as everything is too sore. High temp, headache etc and having a sofa day but I'll take this over covid any day

IsadoraQuagmire · 12/02/2021 18:21

I think this thread is really helpful. It's never been a secret that some people will get bad side effects, just the luck of the draw.
I had my first jab yesterday morning (AZ) and about 8 hours later the unpleasantness started.
Nausea (I've been sick several times) headache, awful shivering, aching all over, extreme tiredness, terrible thirst (also aching arm, but that goes without saying)
I'm still feeling very fragile and queasy today and spent most of the day in bed.
Worth it though. I'll be better prepared for the next one and have more suitable food and drink on hand (I only had a few hours notice for this one, didn't even know my GP had put me in the 16-64 group as, though I have an auto immune illness, it's not one I've seen listed)
I'm 24 incidentally.

YogaLite · 12/02/2021 18:44

@Knobblybobbly, don't go.
This is the exact question I would like to know the answer to and still not clear what the reaction - or a lack of it - says about the immune system.

And I mean a reaction more than local redness on the arm.

Saying some do, some don't doesn't answer the question, I would like to know the answer to why.

FluffySocks75 · 13/02/2021 00:39

I became incredibly unwell overnight. Temp 39.5. Rigors. Tachycardia. Vomiting. Most horrific headache I've ever had, eyeballs hurt to move. Violently shaking. Lasted for about 10 hours like that.

Had very high temp during day slightly improving now. Feel a little more human.

Spoke to GP he said has been hearing a lot of people with v high temps.

I'll report via yellow card website incase there a link to my autoimmune illnesses that's useful to know.

As is necessary on here because people think if you report a vaccine side effects you're a liar/antivax I'll state - PLEASE ALL GET IT. IM PRO VACCINE. HAPPY TO HAVE 2ND I'LL JUST BE MORE PREPARED.
