Really happy we are now vaccinating more than a million a week. Hopefully up to 2 million soon!

OrangeBananaFish · 11/01/2021 19:31

@CruCru

This is a really nice thread. Thank you to the person who said 35 sleeps to 15 Feb - it’s made me feel a lot better.
That was me. I love counting down to things. I'm more looking forward to 1st March. Firstly, as I hope (or dare I think) that cases will be looking better as will hospital administrations and deaths so hopefully some restrictions (not all obviously) will be able to be eased slowly, but also because the days will be longer and the snow/ice should be gone
SaveWaterDrinkGin · 11/01/2021 19:32

Hi! Just checking in to new thread.

Does anyone have any info/articles on post-vaccine transmissibility?

littleowl1 · 11/01/2021 19:35

Hello everyone, I hope you are all doing ok.

I was collating today's data for the homepage of www.covidmessenger.com and I wanted to highlight something I am feeling cautiously optimistic about.

I have been monitoring cases in Kent daily (Kent was the county that first had high prevalence of the new variant) and there are signs that things are beginning to turn in recent days (ie cases starting to fall).

I published a detailed post about this here:
www.covidmessenger.com/latest-analysis/

Kent is important for the rest of the country as it highlights how the new variant responds to various social restrictions - its a bit long to detail it all here but I explain it in the post.

It's an immense relief that cases appear to be starting to fall.

It is early days - it could be a data blip - but my instinct tells me things have peaked in Kent. This will provide an immensely valuable dataset for all our clever scientists and doctors working hard to determine the most suitable measures to contain the spread in other parts of the country.

So while it has been grim living in Kent for the last few weeks, with relentlessly depressing data, I do think our experience will be hugely valuable.

Thanks Littleowl. There is a lot more green on your site today than there was yesterday. My parents are in Essex and I notice their area and the surrounding ones are falling.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 11/01/2021 19:49

Don’t sail off without me! I’m jumping on board. I need this thread.

Nothing positive to add because I’ve been home schooling all day and haven’t turned the news on. Actually I recommend that for anxiety.

No vaccination hubs near me. My DP’s are getting jittery because they haven’t been called and now the shiny new hub is 1hr 30 away from them and they won’t make it there and back without needing a loo, plus it’s too far for them to drive.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 11/01/2021 19:52

Looking at the covid messenger, Cornwall has had a sudden rise! Stay safe all you chaps down there.

Frazzled2207 · 11/01/2021 19:57

checking in.
@tobee
quite a lot of London boroughs (well, 5 or 6) are now showing a small decrease over 7 days compared with the previous week. Many more are showing a very small increase (single digits) which suggests that they may follow soon. And London overall should be officially decreasing within a few days I think.
Up here in the north west we haven't peaked but might do soon.

shinynewapple2021 · 11/01/2021 20:05

@JemimaPyjamas
We are booked to go to Italy in June. This was a booking carried over from 2020. Keeping an open mind on it at the moment, still 5 months away.

My mum, 86 in care home, has now has both doses of Pfizer vaccine.

@SaveWaterDrinkGin

Hi! Just checking in to new thread.

The trouble with post-vaccine transmissibility is how would you test for or measure it?

If you had a vaccinated person who developed symptoms and tested positive, you would then have to demonstrate that anyone they were in contact with who caught it within a reasonable time scale had absolutely nowhere else they could have caught it. Judging from the number of posters on MN who have apparently caught Covid despite not stepping outside the house or seeing anyone since March and wiping down all their shopping, that would be quite a challenge.

For scientists to make a confident assertion one way or the other we would need a reasonably large pool of people who they were sure had been in contact with a vaccinated positive-testing person only.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 11/01/2021 20:19

shinynewapple2021, Italy is doing pretty well on the vaccination front too Smile I’d be hopeful if I had that booked.

FuzzyPuffling · 11/01/2021 20:19

Cheers Dobby. We're staying in. Hope your ILs are ok too.

Mousehole10 · 11/01/2021 20:53

Cases have dropped in my area for the first time in months. We are in one of the areas that went into Tier 4 before Christmas. Seems like these current measures might actually be working.

OrangeBananaFish · 11/01/2021 21:14

Ooh there is a lot more green falling there littleowl That is good news.

Hopefully the rest of the country will start to follow suit over the next few weeks.

HopelessBlue192 · 11/01/2021 21:16

So much love for the positivity on here, thank you!

MadisonAvenue · 11/01/2021 21:22

That’s sounds very encouraging about the SE.

We’ve gone from around 50 per 100k at the start of December to 741 today.

Logically you know it's going to be a wave like last time but can't help crossing my fingers and worrying that it might just keep on coming. 🤞🤞🤞💉💉💉this will be the last one 🌊 🌊🌊

Hancock said in an interview that the plan is to go door to door eventually if needed.

Sorry can't remember where I saw that else I would do a link.

tootyfruitypickle · 11/01/2021 22:11

I’m SE and still rising but rate has definitely slowed. My parents nearby is falling for first time that I can remember. They were tier 4 over xmas - we didn’t go into tier 4 til Boxing Day . Does seem that rates are plateauing ?

Oldtimer2020 · 11/01/2021 22:30

We were tier 4 before Christmas and for the first time in weeks, I saw some green downward arrows on our county’s cases chart today 🤞

Shehz21 · 11/01/2021 22:50

Placemarking!

Just wanted to add that I am CV and bordering CEV too and had Covid19 and only experienced mild symptoms. Was like a cold and I recovered quicklySmile

Also have a holiday planned for May in Dubai where parents live. Looking forward to it!

Babdoc · 11/01/2021 23:08

May I just add that you can actually even put a positive spin on the high numbers of current infections - because every one of those will have some immunity once they recover, and it brings us closer to herd immunity!
Every vaccinated person and every recovered infected patient is one less that the virus can use to spread. This can only end one way - with us winning. Keep your spirits up.

Glad you only suffered mildly. Smile

There's obviously more to how has severe Covid effects, who is hospitalised etc. Obviously there are plenty of studies continually in progress, but it's so hard to know for sure who and why exactly.
