New thread for the positive crew. Oldies, lurkers and newbies all welcome. Keep the science and positivity coming.

Just a reminder that it was politely requested upthread if posters could avoid the ‘my MIL is 78 and is having her vaccine tomorrow’ type posts.
????
Is this a rule??? Ridiculous. It's a good news thread and every vaccine is a piece of amazing news. Look back to the first ever "good news" thread back in July. At that point we were celebrating results of early trials. We've come so far now...
fantastic hope for the future despite the doom and gloom all around us.
Just doesn't seem right that good news should be edited out because some people are finding it annoying.
We can always set up a new thread if we run out of space

BBCONEANDTWO · 17/01/2021 12:10

@TheKeatingFive

You know, I think anyone who doesn't like the 'woohoo someone I love has been vaccinated' posts should just scroll on by.

I agree. Every vaccination is good for the country as a whole.

You're right it could mean one less hospital admission till eventually once more and more people are vaccinated it will mean thousands less hospital admissions - which is what the end game is.
TheKeatingFive · 17/01/2021 12:14

Very difficult rule to enforce also.

MarshaBradyo · 17/01/2021 12:26

@IncludeWomenInTheSequel

It is utterly fucking unbelievable that we're almost a year in and the government are only just now trying to learn the lessons from countries that have been more successful than us. They've got so much blood on their hands, and they'll never have to face up to it.
Wrong thread?
MarshaBradyo · 17/01/2021 12:28

Oh I see your response

Idk on personal vaccine news can see both sides it doesn’t effect me, but can see it does utters

MorrisZapp · 17/01/2021 12:29

Janice Turner is an absolute legend. Her piece in The Times yesterday was just pure joy.

FloraFocus · 17/01/2021 12:29

Well positivity degenerated pretty quickly!

Welikebeingcosy · 17/01/2021 12:32

My grandma is over 80 and still waiting for her vaccine. It doesn't bother me to see 70 year olds' relatives celebrating their vaccinations. It fills me with cheer to hear about actual people have gotten their vaccines and to know that some places have been able to move onto the next group. Not sure why it is so slow where we live- but hopefully it will speed up!

MorrisZapp · 17/01/2021 12:32

@IncludeWomenInTheSequel

I was just reacting to the Times piece someone posted above. We're still allowed to acknowledge reality surely?

This thread was fucking great at the start and now it's getting really weird.

Would you mind acknowledging reality on any of the thousands of critical threads about government response to Covid and not on the positivity thread? It's the one place where we've agreed not to get fighty about Covid.
AlexandraEiffel · 17/01/2021 12:36

Yep I'm not on board with the don't post about individuals' vaccinations thing. It's good news!
One of the biggest cries I had last week was about a good news article about a massive roll out of vaccines in a care home area one of my relatives died of covid in. But I wouldn't begrudge its posting.
I also feel stressed every time someone posts saying 'have you seen that awful thread about schools, what idiots' as it makes me then wonder what is happening now given my kids are school age, but I scroll on by as being able to offload about bad threads seems to help others.

Welikebeingcosy · 17/01/2021 12:36

Have just seen vaccination hub due to open at local airport close to my grandma's town at a rural airport. Subject to planning it will open next week. That should bring numbers up each day too- especially if others are due to open in the country too.

IncludeWomenInTheSequel · 17/01/2021 12:43

Oh get lost, honestly 🙄

Simon Stevens said on the telly this morning we’re now vaccinating four times faster than people are catching covid, great news! Grin

Wow that is good!!
NeedingCoffee · 17/01/2021 12:48

Just read that we are vaccinating 140,000 people EVERY MINUTE!! Just incredible.

TeenPlusTwenties · 17/01/2021 12:48

Good news:

DD (y11) is doing some independent work.
Has been doing it for a whole 15 minutes.
This is good news because she has been more or less out of education since May.

NeedingCoffee · 17/01/2021 12:49

Ooooops, no, 140 a minute Blush
Still incredible me thinks

IncludeWomenInTheSequel · 17/01/2021 12:49

I've been on all of these threads actually.

There's a difference between 'good news' and clapping your hands over you ears and going 'LALALALLALALA CANT HEAR YOU' any time a whiff of reality threatens.

This thread has gone so fucking weird. On one hand we're only allowed to share good news as deemed appropriate by the OP, and on the other actual facts are deemed doom mongering.

What shall we post about then? Oh I know, here's a picture of a tiny pony, that's ok, right guys?

More good news:

My 90yo DF is at home recovering well after his heat attack that sent him to hospital earlier this month.

That typo did make me laugh Grin We’d have the whole population done in a day Grin Still good though - 140 a minute is 2 a second Smile
IncludeWomenInTheSequel · 17/01/2021 12:55

That is good news @TeenPlusTwenties Smile

FuzzyPuffling · 17/01/2021 12:56

SaveWater please don't leave.

I am on the same page as you. Living in a rather remote rural area of England with a CEV husband (if he was hospitalised with covid, apparently he has a 30% chance of death, so not the happy "it hardly kills anyone" statistic I keep seeing) I am seriously worried about the inequality of the vaccine roll out.

The over 80s in this village have still not been done.
The new "mega hubs" are much too far away from us (nearest over 2 hours drive away)
Hospitals are almost 1.5hrs drive away.
Pharmacies are not suitable here (very small) and there is no indication they are preparing anywhere else.

So we are down to small GP surgery type centres only and the vaccine delivery is sporadic and small.

I try not to harp on about this too much as it is not good news, but it does make it more difficult on a personal level to hear about "we're doing the over 70s now"

I accept that this is all about me (and DH) but it IS causing anxiety and I'd like to think that the cheermongers could understand that. "Good News" is more about community and world advances - things that truly benefit us all.
