Oooh, I had one of my two free Times articles left for the week. That's the best thing I have read since the vaccine were approved. Thanks Sebw.

feelingverylazytoday · 14/01/2021 14:25

Past infection leads to months of immunity, in fact it may even be higher than vaccine levels. Nice to have this confirmed, and good news for areas that have been very hard hit

It's across the whole UK I think, quote from Matt Hancock

Sebw · 14/01/2021 14:35

I've not actually read the Times article as dont subscribe. Is it good? It just came up on my twitter feedback. I only follow positive accounts Grin

Great news about immunity

FourTeaFallOut · 14/01/2021 14:40

Grin I'll copy a few paragraphs for you.

"Ministers are preparing to more than double the vaccination rate to half a million a day next week under plans to dramatically ramp up delivery.

Confidential government figures which were published by the Scottish government suggest that the government is preparing to vaccinate as many as 3.8 million people next week.

It would eclipse the 2.6 million people who have received the vaccine over the past five weeks amid reports that Boris Johnson was frustrated by the slow pace of the rollout. The most recent daily vaccination figure was 207,661.

The figures suggest that the government is on target to deliver on its pledge of vaccinating 15 million of those who are most at risk by February 15. It means that all of the at risk groups could be vaccinated by mid-March."

Great, thanks for posting this

Thank you for posting Smile

I do have faith in the scaling up of the vaccination campaign. They way they scaled up the testing from a pretty bad start was impressive. If they manage similar with the vaccine it will be fantastic.

Sebw · 14/01/2021 15:08

I know what you mean about testing. In March I think we struggled to get to 10k tests a day. It was almost 650k the other day.

FourTeaFallOut · 14/01/2021 15:14

Zoe app down to a daily 53.5k. So another 3.5k Ish down since yesterday. It's going in the best direction in any case.

tootyfruitypickle · 14/01/2021 15:24

Half a million a day is about 14 million a month?! So if that starts from next week that would easily be all over 65s covered by mid Feb?

tootyfruitypickle · 14/01/2021 15:27

Then another 9 million aged 50-59, and 8.5 million aged 40-50.

So it might mean over 50s - plus teachers ? Could all be vaccinated by end March?

tootyfruitypickle · 14/01/2021 15:28

Sorry missed out the 60-65s! Anyway, it’s looking excellent !!

chri55ie · 14/01/2021 15:30

That’s amazing news. I think the same re testing...and the leaked NHS report did state between 4-5 million so sounds plausible! Great news!

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 14/01/2021 15:41

Can we get the vaccine supplies? I have every faith in the ability of the people organising this to get it into people’s arms at the rate of half a million a day but do we have enough?
Do we think they are anticipating J&J and Novavax approval?

TeenPlusTwenties · 14/01/2021 15:45

According to DM headlines we currently have 21million doses in UK. That will keep us going for a while.

chri55ie · 14/01/2021 15:47

Think the Mail (I know I know..!) ran a head line to say we have 21 million doses in the U.K. think those were similar figures mentioned by the Telegraph a week or so ago.

FourTeaFallOut · 14/01/2021 15:49

I think most need to be fill and finished and batch tested (which they reduced from a 3 weeks endeavour to 5 days earlier in the week) but obviously you only need enough to keep the assembly line going.

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 14/01/2021 15:53

@FourTeaFallOut

I've read that. I think it must be first and second dose combined which makes it fairly unremarkable but I'll come and eat humble pie if it's 3 million first doses - and how sweet it would taste!
Don't spoil it AngryGrin

I am involved in the novavax trial. Everyone is very optimistic, and there should be some firm good news about it next month - roll out hopeful for April or so I think. I have no idea where it will be manufactured though. I'm all for international cooperation but I imagine having things manufactured in the UK as AZ is/will be will help us a lot.
Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 14/01/2021 15:54

[quote Sebw]The Times is reporting that we could be up to 3.8 million doses per week or 500000 per day.

Oh going to put that in the vaccine calculator to see what it would look like Smile

Apparently we in London won't barely need the vaccine at all then!

It breaks the calculator Grin

FourTeaFallOut · 14/01/2021 15:59

If I tone my excitement and put in 3m/week I have an appointment some time next week. I better start eating my vegetables!
