New thread for the positive crew. Oldies, lurkers and newbies all welcome. Keep the science and positivity coming.

I'm with @FuzzyPuffling - the majority of octogenarians haven't had their jabs but my parents are now convinced they've been forgotten about and ignore and it's increasing their anxiety to hear about others. And bloody Joan Bakewell whinging about not getting her second.

Anyway, something positive. I've just spoken to a nurse whose wife had Covid over Christmas, but he didn't get it - of course this happens lots, but he had the vaccine in the first week of rollout so it might have been that prevented it for him. Yay for vaccines.

FuzzyPuffling · 14/01/2021 12:54

Just personal experience.

News about vaccines in general is great. I'm waiting with bated breath for J&J and Novavax to release Phase 3s soon. That should benefit all of us.

I think it's odd to have a good news thread but ban personal good news. It's kind of mean spirited; don't share your good news in case someone doesn't also have similarly good news to share?

FloraFocus · 14/01/2021 12:59

It's not just mean spirited. It highlights inequality in care which is not good news.

FuzzyPuffling · 14/01/2021 13:01

Yes, FloraFocus. That is exactly the point.

FourTeaFallOut · 14/01/2021 13:01

It doesn't bother me but I do just ignore pretty much all the personal stuff Blush Whether your Great Aunt has had the jab or hasn't had the jab it's neither here nor there at this point in the grand scheme of things.

FloraFocus · 14/01/2021 13:02

I know my mum's GP is generally a bit crap. Normally we accept it though of course really ed shouldn't .

Hearing other practices are jabbing there way through the 70 - 79 age group is great for them yes. But actually pretty irritating too. I'm surprised if you can't see that.

LivinLaVidaLoki · 14/01/2021 13:04

Can I hide out in here for a bit.

Have been lurking on these threads sporadically, but think it could just be one of two that I stick to now. The others are just too much.

Love the phrase Doom Muppet though

MarshaBradyo · 14/01/2021 13:05

I think err on side of making it a nice place for people to post accounting for stress inducing reaction from personal vaccine.

It is happy news but maybe it can go on a personal vaccine thread.

I generally don’t mind either way and tend to skip over but I’d prefer that we have the least stress inducing place on mn so if it doesn’t do this there’s no harm in moving that news elsewhere.

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 14/01/2021 13:07

I do like hearing other people talk about their own relatives getting done but can also see that it might be stressful for people waiting.

Anyway so long as it isn't a total don't mention the vaccine that is fine Smile
Sorry if people were getting upset.

FloraFocus · 14/01/2021 13:18

I'm positive overall so don't object! Just wanted to put the other side and say it's not really necessary to label stressed people as mean spirited

FuzzyPuffling · 14/01/2021 13:26

I admit I am probably more stressed than most as DH is CEV (blood cancer) and I am CV (rubbish kidneys, autoimmune disease) and we've scarcely been out since March.
None of the over 80s in our village have been done yet.

Love this thread, been following for a while as you can get sucked into the doom and gloom elsewhere otherwise.

With talk of individuals getting vaccines, it doesn't bother me either way as I read the numbers on the news but I agree that if it so much causes one person anxiety or stress in the one place on the forum that should be free of that as much as possible then I respect not talking about personal experiences. I'm surprised there isn't a thread on something like that already.

My glimmer of hopes are that hopefully this is the last lockdown no matter how many mutations there are (like with the flu), and that infection numbers while still very high, have started to decrease even by a little.

It's really a nice thread to come to so thank you all for this and your contributions

Something good - we have a really good doctor's surgery. You can get an appointment when you want one, the doctors are great and the receptionists are amazing. They ring you back and pro-actively contact you about something.

I just wanted to say that because so many people have a different experience. But our surgery is brilliant. They do exist!

Also, my partner had a positive antibody test in October and then tested positive for Covid on Christmas Day. He is absolutely fine and no one else tested positive and no one had symptoms. He didn't isolate in part of the house either.

And more good news, I have a new pair of thermal gloves to keep my hands warm. Could life get any better??!

Just found this thread among the pages of doom.
I do feel it's very easy to find only bad or negative threads on MN these days and it's nice to see something upbeat.
I'm not sure what I think about who has had the jab and who hasn't. I live in a rural area and suspect that will be a disadvantage but at the moment I am hoping I will get the call in the next four weeks as I am ECV.

That's good.

We had similar on that my dad tested positive for Covid a few days after Christmas in a household of 4 plus my sister (support bubble). No one else got Covid and we took a test (community testing). We did isolate him and ensure he was ok and he wore gloves and a Mask around the house but I was very surprised that we didn't get it.

starfish88 · 14/01/2021 13:57

I can see how it causes anxiety I have 2 family members in the over 80s, 1 has had it, one hasn't, but I also feel like it's a shame to have no one to share our joy with especially when a separate thread may get doom-plopped on. And the people getting the vaccine are helping protect the rest with it looking more likely it will reduce transmission or at least getting us towards herd immunity. With the numbers of vacinees (?) going up so quickly it should at least be a good sign that the deadlines for the groups should be met so if your personal over 80s haven't been called up yet it should be a matter of weeks if not days. It's hard to balance not wanting to stop peoples personal joy but also not wanting to cause others anxiety. Sorry sitting firmly on the fence here but I can kind of see both perspectives.

starfish88 · 14/01/2021 14:04

I do think maybe a positivity chat rather than news thread might be a nice idea if we had the strength in numbers to keep the doom Muppets away if people want to keep this one news specific and move the daffodils, puffins and other stuff elsewhere? The no-Corona zone is so quiet but I would love a safe haven to talk nonsense with so other positive people.

TheChineseChicken · 14/01/2021 14:08

@cathyandclare

The 3 million mark has been reached!
Does that work out as an additional 350,000 in one day?
FourTeaFallOut · 14/01/2021 14:11

I've read that. I think it must be first and second dose combined which makes it fairly unremarkable but I'll come and eat humble pie if it's 3 million first doses - and how sweet it would taste!

Sebw · 14/01/2021 14:19

The Times is reporting that we could be up to 3.8 million doses per week or 500000 per day.
