@Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum

Today I received a letter about taking part in the imperial college antibodies research. So have signed up for that as sounds interesting.
Ooo! I've done this. Very easy and interesting research.

I can't believe some people are saying schools won't go back until September. Johnson has said they will open first so by implication those posters believe lockdown and associated separation from friends and loved ones will last until after September. The idea that shops, cafes etc could be closed for at least 9 months Hmm

For those who hate injections - there may be an oral vaccine one day www.telegraph.co.uk/business/2021/01/13/pills-could-replace-covid-jabs-british-biotech-breakthrough/

SilkieAndMoonface · 13/01/2021 20:44

Thank you @Chri55ie.

That is interesting.

My husband hates needles. He is over 50 and I thought we might have issues with him refusing the jab. However when I told him the calculator had moved his predicted date to April instead of July he was happy. Apparently he can't wait to get his. Though I think they risk the silly git fainting. All 6 foot 6 of him Grin

So I just had a look at the 2 months back to normal thread (I know). Can't believe, if the doom muppets are so superior in their knowledge to us lot, that they are saying in the post "the press says..." etc!! And then someone said "these new variants have taken scientists completely by surprise!" That's not true! They absolutely knew that viruses mutate of course. That was taken into account with the vaccine development.

Keep the faith with this thread people!

DobbyTheHouseElk · 13/01/2021 21:42

Aggh, swayed off and read a silly thread. Why aren’t they posting in the topic.

So grateful for this thread.

This thread is fantastic! I’m staying on here and away from the toxic school ones that have brought me to my knees on several occasions in recent weeks.

Zoe app is saying cases at 57.7K per day so definitely coming down Grin

LJC1234 · 14/01/2021 06:43

Not sure if this has already been mentioned but I got an email overnight from ASDA to say they are going to be vaccinating in their pharmacies for the government! That seems like amazing news . They are starting later this month Smile

FourTeaFallOut · 14/01/2021 07:23

Did they say how many of their stores with pharmacies they are going to turn over into covid vaccine centres?

TeenPlusTwenties · 14/01/2021 07:32

On BBC news this morning they showed a Superdrug set up for vaccinations. I think they said only ~6 in total today but it's the start of a very big rollout. It was early so i wasn't really watching properly.

twinmum2017 · 14/01/2021 07:50

Just found out my grandad will be getting his vaccine tomorrow! And at a centre 5 minutes walk from his house.
He's 87 and has coped amazingly through this despite not being able to visit his wife in her care home, and then losing her without saying goodbye, but the last few weeks I've noticed him start to be a bit low so hopefully this is just the boost he needs. If he can just feel confident in a couple of months to go to his Bowles club or go to the garden centre it would improve his quality of life massively.

LJC1234 · 14/01/2021 07:55

@FourTeaFallOut

Did they say how many of their stores with pharmacies they are going to turn over into covid vaccine centres?
So the email says they have offered all 238 stores but are starting with Birmingham .

I imagine it will take a while to get them all fully up and running but great news 😍

FourTeaFallOut · 14/01/2021 07:59

I think that could be amazing. Asda are fab with knocking out the flu jabs. I'll keep my fingers crossed.

Frazzled2207 · 14/01/2021 08:25

Mil getting vaccinated today- she’s 76

TeenPlusTwenties · 14/01/2021 08:28

It's really great to hear the ages coming down on who is getting vaccinated.
I know some areas are lagging behind others and care homes / housebound are still behind but it shows progress.

TeaInTheGarden · 14/01/2021 08:34

Good morning positive people.
For anyone still counting it’s now 32 sleeps till 15 Feb 🎉

twinmum2017 · 14/01/2021 08:49

This isn't good news, but I know I'll get a more balanced answer here than anywhere else!
If the vaccines needed tweaking for any of the variants, what would that mean for the people who have already been vaccinated? Would we be back to square 1 with vaccinating them all again?

tootyfruitypickle · 14/01/2021 08:53

@twinmum2017. I don’t think it’s that vaccines won’t work, I think it’s that they may be less effective. But they are so effective that’s not a massive issue. But they may develop more effective vaccines for the future depending on what mutants preside.

That’s my understanding anyway !

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 14/01/2021 09:05

Yes that’s how I understand it too - the fear is they might lose a few percentage points off their effectiveness but we have headroom as the vaccines are more effective than they might have been, so we wouldn’t be back to square one.

Inastatus · 14/01/2021 09:24

@twinmum2017 - thank you for asking that question and tooty and countess for reassuring as I was worrying about it too.
