@MRex

False alarm, it's reverted to 13th...
I'm also just sat refreshing, MRex! (I start maternity leave tomorrow so I have been, ahem, winding down at work...)

Re London - when the hospital hubs first opened there was one set up in North West London but four/five in South London. Access for the over 80s in East (and South) London has been very limited even though these are the areas most badly affected.

It's also noticeable that in London there are more under 80s vaccinated than over 80s which has surprised me.

On top of that there are several areas whose postal service has been sporadic to say the least. My E postcode is getting one delivery a week but a neighbouring postcode has had no post at all since early December. I wonder how many letters inviting the over 80s to make appointments at the Excel hub are stuck in sorting offices. The Post Office say they are prioritising NHS letters but in today's post I got a letter clearly marked NHS and dated 31 December. Not exactly a priority.

MRex · 14/01/2021 16:10

@lurker101 - that's an interesting point about London rates. I wonder if it's also linked that many early Pfizer vaccines were only being given to people who were already in hospital, but London hospitals cancelled as much as they could in December so wouldn't have many non-covid elderly in hospital. My local council apparently managed to vaccinate half the over 80s before they ran out of vaccine according to out of date blurb, maybe we don't have many.

MRex · 14/01/2021 16:27

The BBC helpfully did a graph of the percentages. It's not too bad actually, nearly 30% everywhere.

Post is a significant issue. Our local sorting office (S London) has a covid outbreak and we’ve had no post for at least a week. If they’re just not delivering at all, then I can’t see how they could prioritise NHS letters. So there will be substantial numbers of people who are due a letter and won’t get one.

Quarantino · 14/01/2021 16:35

Our local centre has apparently vaccinated nearly all 80+s and some 75+s but I'm not sure 'how' (possibly the last-minute offers when someone can't make it) and apparently they can't do any more 75+ until carehome, housebound and and more healthcare staff have been done. This could take a while so it's a little frustrating if they can't make more progress having been successful this far!

boys3 · 14/01/2021 16:58

There’s no press conference today is there ? I’ve not seen one mentioned. So not sure why the delay in updating the dashboard this afternoon.

ceeveebee · 14/01/2021 17:05

Message on dashboard “Due to an issue with the processing of deaths data, the update for 14 January 2021 is delayed.”

ceeveebee · 14/01/2021 17:06

I am now expecting a 2,000+ deaths figure....

boys3 · 14/01/2021 17:08

@ceeveebee I was just wondering that exact same thingSad

cathyandclare · 14/01/2021 17:08

Due to an issue with the processing of deaths data, the update for 14 January 2021 is delayed

This is on the site now

boys3 · 14/01/2021 17:10

Though quite why that stops them updating the other elements on the dashboard I’m not wholly clear on.

FleeingBlue · 14/01/2021 17:19

@ceeveebee

I am now expecting a 2,000+ deaths figure....
NHS daily spreadsheet for England is showing 884 deaths today vs 1012 yesterday. With PHE and the other regions still to be added i'm keeping my fingers tightly crossed we won't hit 2,000. Feeling very nervous though.
Aixenprovence · 14/01/2021 17:35

Is this a new phe surveillance report (I am finding it hard to keep up)? Suggestion in the papers seems to be that cases/positivity were falling in some regions in the week to 10 Jan

Looks from this thread like NHS maybhave changed its advice about length of isolation needed because of new strain... and not announced it???

New guidance? Longer than 10 days isolation for new strain? www.mumsnet.com/Talk/coronavirus/4135770-new-guidance-longer-than-10-days-isolation-for-new-strain

The website still says 10 days..

Wondering if someone can help me. A few weeks back when a thread or two was claiming the hospital wards were full of children I saw a table. It was posted here and on one of those threads I think.

The table was showing covid deaths broken down into age and if they had underlying health conditions. It was probably up to date around October or November. It shows the actual numbers not percentages.

I have searched for it on threads but can't spot it. If anyone has it or something like it but more recent. I would be very grateful Smile

JanuaryChill · 14/01/2021 17:39

Yes I just checked, the only possible change I can see is that you should still isolate if you have a runny nose/sneezing after 10 days. Don't think that was there previously?

PatriciaHolm · 14/01/2021 17:40

PHE have Tweeted 48,682 cases in UK today.

wintertravel1980 · 14/01/2021 17:44

In the meantime NHS have released the latest daily hospital activity report.

Hospitalisations for England have gone up to 4,134 (all time high). London, South East and East of England are still below the peak last last week. Midlands numbers have jumped quite a bit over past couple of days.

Tim Spector (Zoe) mentioned in his twitter that infections in the population over 60 are only flattening up now while the rest of the groups have been falling for more than a week. This explains such a slow decline in hospitalisations (in comparison to cases).

Total numbers are in here- though not with underlying conditions.

That (lack of) postal service is shocking @SilenceIsNoLongerSuspicious

Not ideal - but - as a workaround if anyone is waiting for an imminent vaccination for yourself/someone else, it might be worth following your GP surgery on social media. I have seen a few surgeries announce when their vaccination are beginning and when they expect their appointment letters to reach those invited. I guess the poor reception staff are sick of calls asking when they’re starting and how to get the vaccine

littleowl1 · 14/01/2021 17:58

Jeez - I get so edgy when the data release is late.

Cornettoninja · 14/01/2021 17:59

Me too @littleowl1

FleeingBlue · 14/01/2021 18:17

lurker101 - people round here have been told not to contact their GP - their GP will contact them by phone/text/letter or they may get a letter inviting them to make an appointment at the Excel hub. Not a lot of good for the areas that have had no post at all since early December.
