In case anyone was doubting that we should stay home, take a look at www.covidmessenger.com/. The columns to compare is the one third from the right which is the most recent week and the one second from the right, which is the week before.

Oh shit.

Didn’t you already know this? It’s been on the news.

Your post is fear mongering. We’ve all stocked up on that already, thanks.

Purplethrow · 10/01/2021 10:13

Depressing Sad

Ohbabybab · 10/01/2021 10:14

@CountessFrog how are stats and figures Scaremongering?! I’m fed up of hearing that term it’s the new ‘fake news.’

Ohbabybab · 10/01/2021 10:15

Sorry I stand corrected fear mongering but it’s pretty much the same thing.

yankeedoodledandee · 10/01/2021 10:15

Your post is fear mongering.

How?

notevenat20 · 10/01/2021 10:15

I knew numbers were going up but I didn't know they had gone up by a factor of 4.5 in one week on the Isle of Wight for example!

OP posts:
CountessFrog · 10/01/2021 10:16

No, it’s not.

Scaremongering is hyping up news, like fake news.

Fear mongering is stoking up fear. Which is what you are doing.

Tiktokersmiracle · 10/01/2021 10:16

Lockdown won't change things for at least 2 weeks
You can thank our twatty PM and the stupid relaxing of rules at Christmas.
But it's ok cos Boris clapped for the NHS.

Ohbabybab · 10/01/2021 10:18

Fearmongering is about exaggerated rumours... these are hard facts! Discussing them doesn’t make them less true - sadly.

Hatstrategicallydipped · 10/01/2021 10:18

The Isle of Man is in lockdown again now having been covid free for a while.

notevenat20 · 10/01/2021 10:20

I may be the only person who didn't know that the rate of increase had massively increased in 29 Dec - 04 Jan compared to 22 Dec - 28 Dec.

Yes this is before lockdown. Fingers crossed for next week.

OP posts:
Biscusting · 10/01/2021 10:21

If you’re on a thread titled ‘coronavirus’ and don’t want to see facts and figures or hear anyone’s concerns whilst siting figures, then May I suggest you go elsewhere.

Pipandmum · 10/01/2021 10:21

Yes its shocking yet there are still so many people out! I had a hospital appointment Friday and the roads were almost at normal levels - I don't get where they are going. I dropped by the super Tesco on the way back and it was surprisingly empty.

TheGreatWave · 10/01/2021 10:24

So, your journey is allowed but no one else's?
LacyEdge · 10/01/2021 10:25

Yes, it is staggering OP. Such a huge jump in cases in a single week. Our area went up 29% in that time.

I hope we can talk about data and facts on here without it being called fearmongering. Reminds me of the Brexiters who called all concerns about the various effects of Brexit “Project Fear” Hmm

Quarantino · 10/01/2021 10:26

I feel much more fear from reading people posting about how they dismiss facts relating to coronavirus than I do reading the actual facts. So countessfrog you have successfully stoked up fear here, thanks.

ssd · 10/01/2021 10:29

Surely that's why we are in lockdown again @notevenat20

I'm not sure why you are surprised?

notevenat20 · 10/01/2021 10:30

Yes, it is staggering OP. Such a huge jump in cases in a single week. Our area went up 29% in that time

Mine went up 100% in that time and it doesn't seem to be rare.

Quarantino · 10/01/2021 10:30

Even compared with everything else that's happened since March, the current number, rapid growth and trajectory of confirmed positive case numbers is extremely noteworthy and not something the country has experienced before in this pattern. To discuss it is natural. To pretend it should be ignored shows denial.

notevenat20 · 10/01/2021 10:31

I'm not sure why you are surprised?

The previous weeks had cases going up 20-30% a week. Now it's often 100-350%!

OP posts:
DfEisashambles · 10/01/2021 10:32

In no way is this scaremongering. If you don’t want to talk about the reality of what we’re in then avoid these topics.

Ohbabybab · 10/01/2021 10:33

@ssd I’m shocked that’s it pretty much across the board and also the volume of the leaps. Hereford for example has had huge growth when it was Tier 1 (could be the reason!) a couple of weeks before Christmas.
I live rurally and we’ve had low case numbers through out but we are now at nearly 450 per 100,000 that’s huge compared to the first wave.

herecomesthsun · 10/01/2021 10:33

@CountessFrog

No, it’s not.

Scaremongering is hyping up news, like fake news.

Fear mongering is stoking up fear. Which is what you are doing.

Nonsense, people are allowed to quote actual statistics on a discussion board.

No one has to look here or read a particular thread.

Oh shit.

I'm subscribed to this for my area. The numbers have shot up in 7 days from 400 odd to 1886 . It's not scaremongering Problem being because the gov changed the way deaths etc are counted, nobody believes the figures anymore. As a nurse looking after predominantly covid patients, I can well believe it
TwirlingTwizzler · 10/01/2021 10:36

I look at CM everyday and it is scary how the numbers are increasing day on day.
