How are people still catching the virus?

Numbers are still so high, are people catching it from supermarkets? Does 2 metres apart still stop you catching it? Are you still pretty safe outside if you stay at least 2 metres apart?

@Worriedandabitscared

My DH works in a supermarket and we caught it NYE (well when symptoms started) so I think supermarkets are still hot spots Sad
So sorry hope he recovers soon. In all of the supermarkets I've seen some of the staff have not been wearing masks or are not wearing them over their nose. It is absolutely crazy.
Worriedandabitscared · 11/01/2021 10:42

@Myshinynewname2021 I know! It's bad isn't it, DH has been sticking to the rules (so he says) but I'm 37 weeks pregnant so I think he has but I guess all it takes is not washing your hands one time or touching your face etc honestly we were very lucky and only had it mildly, I just hope the spread slows in this lockdown, I think we all need some normality back.
@MerciSeat haha right on cue. I didn't call disabled people cunts as you well know. And you pretend all you want that the only people not wearing masks are actually disabled if that suits you.

This country is going to be fucked because of people like you. You have given a free ride to the cunts who simply can't be arsed or want to be 'free' to do what they want when they want.

Way to go. Give yourself a big pat on the back. The 'freedom' to not bother protecting others is working out really well isn't it? I can only assume you are not central London and are instead somewhere the risk is super low.

Take your self pitying whining about it's not fair and bore off. It's precisely because of people like you we are in this mess. And still here you are screaming snd making things up.
Thank you. I'm crying but you'll probably be quite pleased about that won't you. Job done.

I am not being reckless or selfish by needing to buy food or have blood tests or go to work. I am not the same as someone who hosts illegal raves or drives 150 miles to walk on a mountain.

I cannot sleep some nights for worry about not being able to wear a mask and the risk I may be putting people at. I get abuse when I go out. Hundreds of thousands of others are in the same position as me but without support to stay at home we have no choice. What do you propose we do? Seriously. Give me a workable solution that isn't just 'stay in'.

Thank you for saying the country is fucked because of people like me. If I wear a mask next time I go out and have an attack (I have a neurological condition) will you be ok with me losing consciousness and wetting or shitting myself on the bus? Is it ok if I use NHS resources when an ambulance is called or shall I just lie there in my mess? Are you ok with shop or transport staff cleaning up after me?

I'm reporting your post.

MerciSeat · 11/01/2021 10:46

obviously the many many cunts not wearing them all have hidden disabilities and traumas and should never be asked why they are t wearing them

And yes, you did say that.

SparklingLime · 11/01/2021 10:48

I’m sorry you were subject to that, @MerciSeat. I’ve reported too. Flowers

I honestly can't believe what I just read.

In Hong Kong if you can’t wear a mask you don’t get to go shopping and public health delivers for you. We should definitely be doing the same!

FluffySocks75 · 11/01/2021 12:54

2m apart absolutely doesn't stop you getting it. Just reduces likelihood.

People are in and out each others houses. "Just going to hers and one others that's all." That type of attitude. That's all it takes. Each of them have 2 houses they are "just" going to...

Something like this would be welcome. Perhaps some sort of code those who need to/would rather avoid shops for whatever reason (mask exemption included) could use to obtain a guaranteed delivery slot, provided by whatever authority. It'd be a nightmare to administer though, as would a proper exemption scheme which would also be helpful.

Not sure how this would help people who are exempt but still need to go to work, use public transport etc, but cutting some contact is better than nothing.

TheHoneyBadger · 11/01/2021 13:29

supermarkets are still doing priority sdelivery slots with lots of availability if you genuinely want to avoid shopping

TheHoneyBadger · 11/01/2021 13:33

Think it's pretty clear pp wasn't calling genuinely disabled people cunts but the people who just don't want to wear them but can shelter behind the fact no one can enforce in case they have a reason and when people have been made to think it's disablist to even ask.

I thought she was clear. Maybe have a trigger happy mod on.

Being mask exempt doesn't make you priority as there are adjustments in place for those who can't wear masks, ie exemptions.

Priority slots are for people who cannot get to the shops.

The awful things she said about those who cannot wear masks were inexcusable, as was laying the blame for the mess the country is in at our door.
Sadless · 11/01/2021 14:26

Can't blame disabled people in supermarkets for all the spread people are doing what they want. Just seen this

How are people still catching the virus?
Crazyunicornlady · 11/01/2021 14:30

Too many people with the virus but not the symptoms identified to get a test.

Too many people constantly touching their masks and faces, not washing them and not throwing away disposable ones.

Also hospitals

TheHoneyBadger · 11/01/2021 14:39

I know that's the way you read it but I don't think that is what she meant - she was saying people like you as in people who think no one should be able to question anyone who wasn't wearing a mask in case they were disabled. Now that could well be a misunderstanding of what you were saying and therefore double crossed wires but she definitely did not say disabled people are cunts and I'm sure you're aware of that.

For example she may think a better solution would be for people with genuine exemption to have something official to show that (ie not a sunflower lanyard that anti muzzle types were encouraging each other to wear because then no one could ask them). You on consideration might feel hmm that would have been good for me too as then no one would think/assume I just couldn't be bothered to wear one. That nuanced discussion didn't happen though obviously because she carelessly phrased her use of the c word in the same paragraph as the word disabled and you extrapolate to she was calling disabled people cunts.

I'm asthmatic. I try to wear a mask in shops but sometimes it gets really hard if I'm queuing for a long time - I have my inhaler with me so if I did have to take the mask down I could wave my blue inhaler around visibly I guess.

It isn't the fault of people with invisible illnesses or traumas that prevent them wearing a mask but none the less the existence of and sensitivity towards what could be those people has created a shield for people who just don't want to wear them and don't give a shit about protecting people.

Add to that that shops etc immediately said hang on we're not taking responsibility for policing our customers and there was no legal ground for making them do so and police certainly can't police every coop in the land and all we have is people's good will to rely upon.

Gyms make no sense - my gym was brilliantly distanced having moved and spread cardio machines over the 6 badminton courts and spread all the weights and resistance machines over the freed up room in the gym. They had sanitiser soaked blue roll in dispensers so you could wipe down machines before and after use and careful one way systems. Yet they have now been forced to close twice in a matter of months.

Tista · 11/01/2021 14:41

From work (most / lot sof people are at work - you dont have to be a key worker to go out to work), schools and hospital/care home settings! So that raises the question of how. ? Most people being admitted to hospital are older people or retirement age plus. So the question is how are they getting it? I think if I knew I was getting a disease that could kill me vs a jab in a few weeks, I'd happily hunker down and not see a soul. Both parents are.

TheHoneyBadger · 11/01/2021 14:41

By the way you may be surprised about priority slots if you phone and ask. I couldn't get deliveries at all at one point in the original lock down and am a single parent in a village and would normally rely upon family members who were shielding for lifts to anywhere in an emergency. I explained to tesco and they put me down for priority slots and whenever i booked there were plenty available so I wasn't overstretching the service.

IrmaFayLear · 11/01/2021 15:03

I think official mask exemption is the way to go for essential appointments, eg hospital, and otherwise it will be priority access to supermarket delivery.

I kind of agree that the “no challenge” policy for hidden disabilities has kind of backfired. In the US you are not permitted to ask someone what their disability is, so cue a million CFs completely taking advantage of a system designed to preserve people’s dignity. And the result has been the contracting of adjustments for people because those abusing them cannot be weeded out. Eg you can’t allow 150 people to board a plane first, so no one gets to board first.

Have you not seen this research, showing rates in teachers up to 333% above average?

www.tes.com/news/exclusive-coronavirus-schools-teacher-covid-rates-333-above-average

There is no way that study can be statistically relevant, it only samples from 3 local authorities.

Unfortunately the DfE/government have refused to release this data since June.

The pp said the unions would have released info if it was noteworthy so I linked it.

Shops could have one till open that only serves people who don’t wear a mask , therefore everyone else feels safe but the till worker must be fully protected by a screen and mask themselves.

Masks don't protect the wearer.

And how is having lots of people queuing together maskless going to protect anyone?

Porcupineintherough · 11/01/2021 17:27

Masks dont protect the wearer

I wish people would stop with this rubbish. Masks do offer a degree of protection. The amount depends on the mask and how its put on/worn/taken off.
