timescale for non vulnerable under 50s being offered the vaccine?

I wondered if there is an estimation of timescale for the above? I have searched but can't find any information on this.

I have friends in their 30s/40s with no underlying health conditions expecting to be offered the vaccine this Spring and I think they are being very optimistic!
@Hadenough80 we won't know until it's been a year from when the people who took part in the trials are retested. And if the virus mutates a lot a fresh vaccine may be required
I see, thank you.
I think I did read somewhere that if it does mutate to much it wouldn't take long for them to adapt the vaccine.
So I guess we will have to wait and see.

@Pastanred

i don't expect we will get it

i think by the time they vaccinate the at risk groups, cases will reduce massively and the very low risk wont be offered it - in same way we don't get offered the flu vaccine. Young healthy people do die of flu.

Deaths in under 40 esp, for healthy adults are ridiculously low - like 400 out of 80,000

Given that 1) we have ordered enough doses to vaccinate everyone several times over and 2) Matt Hancock said this morning that the vaccine will be offered to everyone over 18 and they aim to do that by the Autumn, why do you persist in believing you won’t be offered it?

Things may go awry, it may take longer than planned - but EVERYONE WILL BE OFFERED A VACCINE.

The cynics amongst us hear "we will have offered a vaccination to everyone in the first 4 groups by mid February" and think 15th Feb they'll send out 10 million letters offering people shots in July to September. Because they currently need to be vaccinating 2.5 million a week to hit the target, not 0.5 million a week. (And it's not clear to me that they have the vaccine stocks currently to be able to deliver on this promise otherwise).

By August we will all have been offered a vaccination slot, but will the shots all be this year?????

didireallysaythat · 13/01/2021 21:43

I'm confident we will be offered a vacination. I'm just not confident they can promise a date to deliver on it.

I thought I had heard by Autumn bandied about re adults.

I wouldn’t bother with the calculator.

Which is technically almost the end of December but autumn sounds better than “if we over run by even a few days, it’ll be next year.”
