I'd like to see all people who cannot wear masks due to disability immediately put on the shielding list, so that everyone in public has to wear one and Police on the streets can issue immediate and hefty fines for anyone not wearing a mask in any public building. And, if I had my way, a good old beating with a truncheon!! And a tasering for good measure!

I'd also like to see more autonomy for schools in how many kids they will take - many schools seem to be allowing parents to take the piss. Some are full but for a handful of kids - as feckin' if!! If a parent is at home they should be at home, I don't care how hard it is to work and homeschool, it's hard for all of us so suck it the fuck up.

Plus immediate criminal records for all found at gatherings. (parties etc).

If we don't get really tough now things are going to get worse and worse. Things are utterly out of control and we are now an International disgrace with regards to the outbreak.

Utterly shameful.

ktp100 · 08/01/2021 17:02

I meant no mask die to disability or illness.

Inacoldclimate · 08/01/2021 17:06

Why wasn’t London put into tier 3 like us in West Yorkshire when they reviewed the tiers on 26th November? Completely the wrong decision. I remember saying it myself as the rates here weren’t much higher than London at that point.

Frequentflier · 08/01/2021 17:06

Where I am, there are lots of people not wearing masks, even those customer facing. They can't all have medical conditions FGS.

We had a two week party in London. Theatres opened and restaurants and pubs were full. Christmas Shopping was in full swing. Then bam tier 3 and not long after tier 4. A lot of these hospital admissions must be connected with this time period.

All you "suck it up" monsters make me sick, there are reasons some children NEED to be in school, get over your bitter and twisted jealousy
Anjo2011 · 08/01/2021 17:17

So many people not complying but more than there would be if there were no lockdown. It’s not getting better any time soon. Today’s figures are the highest ever, i think they will continue to increase for a while yet, I don’t think Christmas infections are at their peak yet.

I wouldn't like to see this.

This is like it is living in countries when everything is run by the state. If the stock of the vaccine were made in enough quantities for private clinics more people would have it. This will run much more quickly.

If there was ever an argument for a national health service it is this covid emergency. Would the deaths of people who can't afford private medical treatment really enhance your life?

MRex · 08/01/2021 17:43

@blueangel19 - I think you missed that these are new vaccines that have only just started production and roll-out, so there will be a little ramp-up time getting the logistics and processes sorted out effectively. If the majority of other countries were far ahead then you might have a point about prep, but as they aren't maybe you should look again at your expectations.

Travelledtheworld · 08/01/2021 17:58

@ktp100 I am with you on this one !

Frazzledmum55 · 08/01/2021 17:59

To people sati g secondary schools shouldn’t be open as kids can stay home alone - in many ways I think secondary students can be more vulnerable. If primary kids are home they’re hopefully not alone but may have other difficulties. There are many many vulnerable secondary school students who if left home alone are more likely to be involved in drugs, gangs, sex, meeting up with friends and just generally not engaging with home learning and falling badly behind. You’d be surprised how many children these things can affect. In my london secondary in a fairly affluent area we’ve asked 100 students to come in who may otherwise be at risk.

thecatfromjapan · 08/01/2021 18:01

That is really worth pointing out, Frazzledmum.

MadameBlobby · 08/01/2021 18:23

I just had to go to the shops and saw more people today not wearing a mask than I have in total since we had to start wearing them. People clearly just can’t be arsed any more.

ktp100 · 08/01/2021 18:44

All you "suck it up" monsters make me sick, there are reasons some children NEED to be in school, get over your bitter and twisted jealousy

WTF are we supposed to be jealous of? People who want schools to be open??!! So fucking random!!

wonderstuff · 08/01/2021 19:04

I've had a few people ask me if I could send my kids to school. My life would be easiest if the kids were in school and I was going into my school to work, but from a public health perspective the best option is all of us at home, so that's what's happening. I can do that safely so I will.

I still think the biggest problem is that the government aren't supporting and encouraging enough people to stay home. People feel they have to work so they aren't prioritising that, can't blame them, in March the national focus was protect the NHS, that isn't happening now.

Deaths will reach 2000 a day. If ICU stops functioning, which doesn't seem unlikely, that's all operations affected, cesarean sections, cancer tumor operations, car crashes, we're all at increased risk.

the80sweregreat · 08/01/2021 19:06

I can't believe that people won't wear a face covering. I know they are horrible and uncomfortable , but it's not much to ask is it. Winds me up that people have given up so quickly yet the news can't tell us enough of how bad it is in our hospitals and care homes. Are they really not listening or just don't care?

Quaagars · 08/01/2021 19:14

Grin JFC, this pandemic is sending everyone doolally, or you're being sarcastic, I really can't tell what's serious and what isn't anymore, it's becoming beyond ridiculous on here lately! Yes, let's just force everyone who can't wear masks to never go out, what else do you suggest? Lock 'em in and never let them out?! Hmm
Quaagars · 08/01/2021 19:15

I can't believe that people won't wear a face covering. I know they are horrible and uncomfortable , but it's not much to ask is it

Round here (I'm in England) when I go out, it's rare to see anyone out without a mask.
Even if some occasionally aren't, I assume they're exempt.

thecatfromjapan · 08/01/2021 19:16

Completely agree with this.

And your analysis of the consequences of not doing this.

Same here, everyone has them on, often even walking the dog or just walking outside for exercise.

I've noticed more and more people wearing them outside like you say too - you used to just see them when you went into shops/supermarkets, whereas it's becoming more and more common to see people just wearing them as they're walking down the street.

ktp100 · 08/01/2021 19:24

I was taking the piss a bit there but now I stop & think about it...... Yup, truncheon at the ready Grin

With regards to shielding those who can't wear masks, I just think that would be a quicker and easier turnaround for a government who probably couldn't organise exemption certificates this side of 2024. In an ideal world Doctors would be able to just issue an exemption form but an ideal World is sooooooo far from where we find ourselves right now I'm just like nope.....let's just fucking hibernate til July!!

AsCoolAsKimDeal · 08/01/2021 19:29

i do know Boris wasted a lot of taxpayers' money on water cannons (unusable) and trying to build a garden bridge and let's not forget the buses.

Sadiq Khan is so unpopular recent polls projected he will win in the first round of voting.

Bohemiagirl · 08/01/2021 19:41

I'm in London. I went to Aldi this afternoon. It wasn't that busy but at least half the people in there were wearing masks below their nose or below their chin. I won't be going again.
I've no issue with people who can't wear masks. But if people aren't wearing masks properly it just says to me that they don't care.
We're facing a dire situation in London. I don't understand why people can't do this small thing.
