Have most over 80s been called for vaccine now?

Do you have a family member over 80 who has not had the call yet?

My DF still hasn't heard. All other family members over 80 have had already theirs, or have appointments this week.

He has underlying conditions that would put him at particular risk and he's refusing to shield Hmm so hoping it won't be much longer.

In my area they're going to give the AZ vaccine in nursing homes. The surgeries have received the doses, but haven't yet got the mini-fridges they're being provided with to take them out.

PerfectPearl · 14/01/2021 16:46

Wont it be a while yet for all over 80s to be vaccinated, I imagine this all taking a lot longer than we think

tigerbear · 14/01/2021 16:59

PIL - ages 85 and 89 - were done this week.
However, the only two places they were offered to get it done were the Nightingale at Excel and Epsom race course.
They live over an hour drive from each, so DH had to make a 4 hour round trip to take them there and back.
No idea how those without family to get them there would manage, as not doable on public transport for them, as they’re housebound.

Bixs · 14/01/2021 17:04

I was just reading that the north east has the highest number of over 80’s vaccinated. They have done 43% of that age group so still a way to go.

PrincessNutNuts · 14/01/2021 18:18

Four over 85s in my family. One in a care home. None have been called yet.

Amidone · 14/01/2021 19:24

One in my family. 83 and had heart failure. Not heard anything yet.

Seeline · 15/01/2021 12:07

My 83 year old Mum had her letter yesterday. I booked her appointment online for her as she isn't great with that sort of thing. It gave her the choice of centres - but only the mass vaccination sites. Luckily she is quite near one of them, but they were offering her sites over 100 miles away!

Then oyu have to book both appointments at the same time, and by the time I had completed that and tried to confirm it told you someone else had already booked one of the slots and you had to start all over again. It took me 5 attempts!

Anyway her first appointment is the beginning of Feb, and her second isn't until the end of April - it seems such a long wait.

fitflopqueen · 15/01/2021 14:04

90 yr old FIL had his last week, my dad (80) had his on Tuesday. My neighbours had theirs yesterday. Very impressed with the organisation locally, 4 surgeries collaborative effort. 1100 booked in over 3 days this week and this is second group. Hope my mum 78 gets hers in next couple of weeks.. We are in north Derbyshire.,

Northernlass99 · 15/01/2021 14:24

Where my parents live they have not vaccinated a single person yet! No over 80's, no care homes, no-one. Appalling organisation, it's been a disgrace, and so frustrating when you read that other areas are getting on for half their over 80s done.

PastMyBestBeforeDate · 15/01/2021 14:57

I posted on the 8th saying MIL 80 hadn't heard anything. She got it this week. :)

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 15/01/2021 15:30

Around 5.5% of the (adult) population have been vaccinated. That's about 20% of groups 1-4.

(And you have to remember that not everybody will be vaccinated, so it's probably a higher percentage than that of "people who will end up vaccinated".)

PrincessNutNuts · 15/01/2021 16:11

Our 4 over 80s are from 4 different surgeries in three different areas and I get daily phone calls from 3 of them to ask when I think they'll get their first jab.

At least the fact that none of our 80s have had it yet keeps a bit of a lid on the expectations of my over 70 parents who have been expecting theirs ever since Matt Hancock said he hoped to have vaccinated several millions by Christmas.

I do believe they government will hit their target though. This is based on the way government ministers look less shifty and more smug when asked about it. GrinWink

PrincessNutNuts · 15/01/2021 16:17

The Guardian are tracking the progress every day so we can see us getting there.

The government are aiming to "offer" the first vaccination to the first four priority groups by Feb 15th which would be 21% of the population first jabbed.

It's currently running at 0.7% vaccinated, and 4.8% have had their first dose.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 15/01/2021 16:37

Where's that page please Princess? I've been following the tracker here, but it gives a different % for top priority groups (21 compared to 28%), so I'd like to compare the data sources for each one and see why they're different.

They're running off 13.9 million at The Guardian.

Is the disparity in numbers because of the category overlap?

I.e. About half of the ECV group will already be done by the time they start the ECV group because of their age.,

thegreylady · 18/01/2021 10:45

My dh aged 84 had vaccine yesterday.

orangenasturtium · 18/01/2021 16:34

DM in her 80s still hasn't heard anything. I appreciate that different regions have had logistical problems with setting up local centres but she hasn't even had a letter inviting her to one of the mass vaccination centres yet the news is saying that they are about to start inviting 70+ and CEV. My borough is already moving on to 70+.

higglepiggley · 18/01/2021 16:37

One nan 86 with copd hasn't heard anything yet

My other Nan who is 84 had the vaccine Friday
Both in the south east

PhryneP · 18/01/2021 16:37

My over 80 dad had it last week after having it cancelled the week before as they ran out

writingsonthewall · 18/01/2021 16:39

My grandma who is 93 hasn't heard anything. My mum chased the doctor yesterday and apparently she should just wait to hear

I'm supposed to do some chasing tomorrow on behalf of my great Uncle, who being in the first group, and having been hyped up by Matt Hancock 6 weeks ago into expecting "several million vaccinated by Christmas" is now getting anxious that he's been forgotten.

Especially with all this talk of calling in group 3 and 4 now.

MarinPrime · 18/01/2021 18:25

My grandmother who is 94 got a letter on Saturday telling her to book a vaccination appointment, either online or by telephone.

She went online and the only place available was nearly 60 miles away.
The person on the phone helpline told her to contact her GP.
Local GP's have already told people not to contact them about vaccination appointments.

So she emailed her MP who replied 3 hours later!
He said there was a vaccination centre opening half a mile away from her and she'd get an appointment within 4 weeks.

Very pleasant reassuring letter, I was surprised.

LaceyBetty · 18/01/2021 18:29

My in-laws in their 70s have bee called.

rhowton · 19/01/2021 13:24

My Grandma 81, had hers on Friday.

My parents surgery have already started on the over 70s and their friend who is 69 has had hers. Really small rural surgery so is getting through their patients really quickly. I wouldn't be surprised if my parents (61 and 58) were called in the next month.
