Have most over 80s been called for vaccine now?

Do you have a family member over 80 who has not had the call yet?

My DF still hasn't heard. All other family members over 80 have had already theirs, or have appointments this week.

He has underlying conditions that would put him at particular risk and he's refusing to shield Hmm so hoping it won't be much longer.

Definitely a postcode lottery. My 30 year old CEV cousin has been called for hers (getting it today I think) but my 85 year old elderly relative hasn't. Neighbouring areas but different Trusts.

reprehensibleme · 08/01/2021 10:50

DM, over 90, heard nowt. In Scotland.

My 81 year old father hasn't been called for his, my (maternal) grandparents are 81 and 85 and haven't had theirs, nor has my DH's 94 year old grandmother. All in rural areas.

dementedma · 08/01/2021 12:14

Nothing here. Scotland

Numbersarefun · 08/01/2021 12:31

I've found it quite interesting reading this.
We are South Norfolk and there was a message on our surgery's website yesterday saying they are a hub for themselves and 4 other surgeries in the same CCG. It also said that they had done the 6 care homes in the region and I know my MIL is having her 2nd jab this afternoon (they've honoured the 2nd jab for patients who had their 1st before the protocol changed). So in my area things seem to be going ok.

MaryShelley1818 · 08/01/2021 12:36

My father hasn't been for his yet (82 and diabetic) or my mother (67 and CEV).
My DH's Grandparents have had theirs (both 82 and same doctors as my parents), and at least 3 of my friends parents too who are local so hopefully mine won't be long.

Whirlwind14 · 08/01/2021 12:36

My dad hasn’t heard yet. Facebook post from his surgery says that due to storage and logistics, they currently don’t have a suitable venue to start the vaccinations....

knittingaddict · 08/01/2021 12:55

My parents live in the South in Hampshire in an area with a massive increase in cv cases. One is 89 and the other 85. Neither have been called for a vaccination. My dad has asthma and cancer and my mum is diabetic. I hope it happens soon.

RedToothBrush · 08/01/2021 12:59

There are over 5000 people over 80 in my area.

So far approx 2500 have been done apparently.

BUT not areas have any kind of vaccination centre yet or have only opened this week. That should change next week as theres lots more vaccination clinics are due to open.

From what I've read, its more rural areas that are tending not to have clinics yet. But at the same time these are places that generally have lower rates, so this does make sense.

It is a complete lottery.

Same goes for front line NHS staff. People who I know who have got it, have had it in a slightly odd order with some in very high risk jobs not even being considered yet.

PastMyBestBeforeDate · 08/01/2021 13:14

MIL is 80 and hasn't been called yet. She does have a 90 year old neighbour who does have an appointment though so hopefully she'll be called soon.

teta · 08/01/2021 13:17

My rural area hasn't even started yet and we have a very high proportion of very elderly patients. Our town is nicknamed 'Gods waiting room' for a very valid reason. Patients have been told by the Gp surgery they will probably be done by the end of February.

In contrast my parents in South Manchester had their second vacccination yesterday. Apparently lots on the list didn't bother turning up for second one, the volunteers were telling them. The queues were tiny compared to the first time. I do hope this miscommunication means that no vaccine was wasted.

BamboozledandBefuddled · 08/01/2021 13:18

I live in a sheltered housing scheme - between 50 and 60 residents. I'd estimate that at least half are over 80 and none of them have been contacted yet.

daisypond · 08/01/2021 13:23

I know lots of over-80s. None have been offered it yet.

MutantNinjaCovid · 08/01/2021 13:24

The only people I know are admin for the NHS- working from home- you couldn't make it up.

I actually think it is a scandal.

My parents are immobile and have not had theirs - but their friends in the same area have . Plus I know of several frontline workers who have had theirs .

three local surgeries near me have formed a hub and are getting through them very quickly .

LilyPond2 · 08/01/2021 14:14

@Burpeesshmurpees My 87-year-old aunt received a text (which unfortunately she didn't respond to in time to get included in that round).

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 08/01/2021 14:17

@Burpeesshmurpees

Can I ask how are people being contacted? I've seen a lot of people here saying 'called". Is that just a turn of phrase or does it mean a phone call? I'm super worried that my elderly gran will not hear the phone. She's deaf and probably answers the phone about a quarter of the times it rings. She also doesn't have a smart phone and so can't be texted.
Very varied in different areas. A surgery near me sent volunteers to hand deliver letters because there wasn’t enough notice to use Royal Mail and there is not great internet in some areas but when I mentioned this on here another poster said this would never be allowed in her trust because of patient confidentiality.
HelloMissus · 08/01/2021 14:18

My Auntie is going next week.
My mum who is 79 feels robbed.

Unfortunately, yes, it's a phone call. My MIL got her phone call a couple of days ago. She's very forgetful & confused and probably had dementia. She only told us yesterday that she'd had a phone call, and couldn't remember anything and hadn't made a note of the day/time for the jab. She actually thought she was going to the local chemist to have it as she'd forgotten where they'd said she had to go! My OH has had the devil of a job trying to contact the people making appointments. Her GP surgery receptionist abruptly told him it was nothing to do with them, and couldn't give him any contact phone numbers etc. He eventually got the number from a different GP surgery (that neither her nor OH go to), who had a helpful receptionist and gave him the number straight away. Apparently they're not sending out appointment letters, so I can only imagine the sheer number of elderly patients who are going to be "no shows" as they've forgotten or don't know where to go.
Ferrylights · 08/01/2021 14:23

My mum is 80, terminaly ill with lung cancer, has severe COPD, Chrohns, osteoporosis, rheumatoid arthritis, high blood pressure, hypothyroidism, glaucoma... not even a blink from her GP surgery who have more or less turned the phones off. If anyone is on the priority list, she is.

Windyone · 08/01/2021 14:27

Edinburgh. 87 year old Dad has an appt for the 6th Feb presumably the follow up appt for March will be cancelled.

carcarbinks · 08/01/2021 14:28

Our surgery has said they are only getting 1 or 2 days notice of when the vaccine will be delivered so it must be very difficult to plan appointments.

Northernlass99 · 08/01/2021 14:29

Our local GPs decided not to do the Pfizer one as they said they couldn't store it. So there has been absolutely nothing here yet.

The Oxford one is only being done in five hospital hubs at the moment to make sure there aren't any problems. It will be rolled out to GP hubs from next week. So I am hopeful my 85 yo mum will be called soon.

So many people (including DM) are panicking that they have been left off the list. Also now the elderly population of our town have heard the hub will be 5 miles away so they are up in arms! The shielding and housebound will be done at home, and this is only the start of the vaccine roll out, despite what is being said on TV and all the politician photo opportunities.
