Have most over 80s been called for vaccine now?

Do you have a family member over 80 who has not had the call yet?

My DF still hasn't heard. All other family members over 80 have had already theirs, or have appointments this week.

He has underlying conditions that would put him at particular risk and he's refusing to shield Hmm so hoping it won't be much longer.

Care homes have been virtually ignored in England, claims it is too difficult but Scotland and NI seem to be able to do it.

MutantNinjaCovid · 08/01/2021 09:14

And now the snow will bugged it all up even further
We have proper snow today and the centre is at a very hard to get to place that gets cut off due to a hill

ProudAuntie76 · 08/01/2021 09:14

Not being done alphabetical here either.

middleager · 08/01/2021 09:14

It must vary in areas as my FIL in his early 80s had his in the first week of rollout, Birmingham.

Kazzyhoward · 08/01/2021 09:15

Nope, not even started in our town.

TheWindOnTheMoon · 08/01/2021 09:16

No. My MIL hasn't been called. Her GP Surgery rang her this week to check on her - she had a small op just before Christmas. She asked them about the vaccine and they said they hadn't had any at all. This is a town with a large population of elderly and vulnerable people, who are getting no vaccines so far.

Her sister has had one dose, but she lives about 50 miles away. Seems to be luck of the draw atm.

Timeturnerplease · 08/01/2021 09:17

DP has a great aunt and uncle aged 93 and 105 respectively. Living independently on the outskirts of our village. Neither have been called yet, nor has anyone else over 90 in the village in which we live. Apparently there has been an issue getting the vaccine to our area - we're Sussex, so rural but hardly in the wilds!

LadyCatStark · 08/01/2021 09:19

I don’t know anyone over 80 but I popped into our new GP surgery yesterday with our registration forms and they were for our vaccinating older people with the fire brigade helping to direct people and plenty of seating for people to wait on. I heard a nurse say they’d done hundreds of vaccinations that day. It was really well organised and we are very rural and northern so things often take a while to reach us!

Propsneeded · 08/01/2021 09:24

No - my father is almost 85 and not been called yet.

My friend in a care home received his first vaccine yesterday along with staff and the residents. Care homes are being done and NHS staff - people on covid wards/people who are vaccinating have been done.

SendHelp30 · 08/01/2021 09:26

I have all 4 grandparents- all in their 90s and none have been called for yet.
DH has 2 grandparents both in their 80s and they’ve heard nothing too.

Panicwiththebisto · 08/01/2021 09:28

Relative, 99, not been called yet.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 08/01/2021 09:31

An over-80 neighbour of ours had her jab before Christmas. Apart from her age I don’t think she’s particularly vulnerable, still relatively fit and active.

Daisy829 · 08/01/2021 09:36

@SerenadeOfTheSchoolRun that’s an interesting figure thank you. My stepdad is desperate for his and still waiting. I hope he gets it soon so he can feel a bit safer. I’m sure it won’t be long.

PuzzledObserver · 08/01/2021 09:46

While I absolutely understand that everyone is co cerned for their own elderly relatives, I do think there are some unrealistic expectations in evidence. It’s a massive logistical challenge and the emphasis is on simply getting the vaccine out to as many people as possible - they probably don’t have the capacity to rank each individual within a practice in order of vulnerability, much less to rank practices according to how many vulnerable patients they have. I would imagine they are sending batches out to practices in rotation as soon as they get them in, and leaving each practice to decide how to deploy them.

Until the last over 80 is done, there are always going to be some areas ahead of others. They’ve promised the top 4 groups will have had first jab by mid Feb, so I would imagine all over 80’s by the end of Jan.

MutantNinjaCovid · 08/01/2021 09:47

@MutantNinjaCovid

My ecv father hasn’t. Currently having chemo

It all seems to be fur coat and no trousers. Sons of his neighbours and friends have.

To make things worse my faith has also just received another do not leave the house contact from NHS. You would think that would link to a vaccine appointment. He was at the hospital yesterday and the vaccination site is adjacent.
CookEatRepeat · 08/01/2021 09:48

Nothing for any of the over 80s in my life sadly. 3 of them are CEV and have been shielding since March.

MadisonAvenue · 08/01/2021 09:52

We’re in the Midlands, not far from Birmingham. My parents are 85 and 87 and neither have been vaccinated. My Dad was contacted by his GP a month ago to see if he wanted it but he’s heard nothing since. Mom hasn’t even been contacted but spoke to her surgery for a different matter this week and enquired about the vaccine and was told that they hope to have news in the next few weeks.

A vaccine clinic was arranged in the town for the Saturday before Christmas but the vaccine never materialised so it was cancelled at the last minute, it hasn’t yet been rescheduled.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 08/01/2021 09:57

86 yo mil yes, 80 year old dad no.

Still being patient but I will be disappointed if he doesn’t have an appointment by the end of next week now the Oxford vaccine is out there.

Ismellphantoms · 08/01/2021 10:11

My DH is 76 and has had his. All over 80s done in our area.

buttery81 · 08/01/2021 10:14

Interesting that there are 8.4 million people aged 16-64 with underlying health conditions, according to the graphic posted on the first page. That’s a lot!

peasoup8 · 08/01/2021 10:18

Care homes have been virtually ignored in England, claims it is too difficult but Scotland and NI seem to be able to do it.

@ancientgran how do you know? They’re meant to be number 1 on the list aren’t they?

buttery81 · 08/01/2021 10:28

To answer the OP’s question though: no, most over 80s will not have been called yet. There are 3.4 million people aged 80 plus and “only” 1.3 million people have been vaccinated so far!

buttery81 · 08/01/2021 10:31

They’ve vaccinated 1.5 million people so far and the target is 13.9 million by mid Feb, according to ITV. It’ll be a fantastic achievement if they can hit that target.

cathyandclare · 08/01/2021 10:36

Another one saying that none of the many over eighties I know in S Wales has been contacted. They seem to have prioritised health and care workers with the Pfizer. News reports suggest that it's ramping up now, fingers crossed for my 80+ parents.

cadburyegg · 08/01/2021 10:36

My dad is 87, has advanced dementia and is in a nursing home, and hasn’t had his first jab yet Sad
